In our long-delayed Part 2 of our tour of the British Virgin Islands, we again ask the question, “Are the BVIs ready for your planned charter or land-based vacation holiday?” To find the answer, you’ll have to jump into this episode and see for yourself. We sail up from Tortola around the west side of Virgin Gorda, entering North Gorda Sound near Drakes Anchorage and Leverick Bay, then have a fast, fun rip across the sound as we beat up to Saba Rock Resort. We spend several days here on a mooring ball, sampling the food and sights at both Saba Rock, and then the newly rebuilt and reopened Bitter End Yacht Club and Resort. Following that, it’s an early morning run back around to the “Baths”. The Baths are a constant draw and one of the true wonders of the BVIs. In something of a geological anomaly, huge rounded granite boulders replace the normal rough volcanic terrain, allowing for a challenging hiking trail with ladders and shallow pools, along with some of the best snorkeling on the planet. It’s a natural saltwater aquarium, filled with every manner of fish, turtles, starfish, eels, and you name it. We're moving north to Annapolis via Georgia. Had a late start on July 26th due to weather. Was run out of the channel by a very large cargo ship. The wind died. We had to motor a lot. Headed to Ponce De Leon Inlet and was hit by a squall. Got stuck on a sandbar and was towed to freedom. The next day we made it to Jacksonville. Great transient dock but a tremendous current. In fact the captain managed to scratch the hull when leaving. Karen did some sunbathing and dancing. My Boat wheel chassis isn't working on the Sea hopper. I need a way to move it over rougher ground whilst it's unfolded so I set about making a set of wheels that should allow me to do just that. We are hiking up to the top of the falls we can see while aboard anchored Nakama. This has to be the first waterfall we have stumbled across while anchored in a bay; there’s something so special about the ocean and rainforest worlds colliding. After climbing to another level, we are greeted with a natural infinity pool that looks onto Nakama anchored in the bay. We find an epic diving pool with fresh turquoise water, I think we have found our new favourite place. However, there is only so much exploring we can do because we must press on in search of the internet to start studying for exams and catching up on work. So, we pull up anchor and begin our day's journey past an epic mountain view and continue on to the family islands. We brush our teeth because we are reuniting with our dear friends Connor and Oliwia! This week we take a trip to Audlem in Cheshire for the annual Historic Boats gathering. There were some fantastic boats and lovely sounding engines! Then we walked to Overwater Marina to visit the cafe and took the Audlem Lass water taxi back to the locks.
