We are still working through a number of issues on the boat, including electronics and sail controls. This was a short sail to continue to modify and adjust a number of the sail controls and to get use to the use of those controls. We are getting more acclimated to handling the boat as well. Because of its size, it moves with more "purpose" than our previous boats. But it is manageable. It just takes time and use to get accustomed to how it handles. Thanks for watching and sailing along. Day 13 at the RS Games was wild! 🌊💨💦 Big breeze, dense mist and solid chop created a step change in conditions from the champagne sailing that we've seen so far at the RS Games. The Rooster hoodies were flying out of the shop as sailors and supporters started layering back up to a suitable warmth level for a typical British summer. The RS Aero's and RS500's launched first. The mist descended heavily across the racecourse which seemed to make the racing dial up a notch as visibility dropped. Decision-making got infinitely harder, and sailors had to work hard to keep their boats driving through the building chop. Unfortunately for the RS Tera sailors by mid-afternoon conditions were not looking any more favourable and the PRO made the difficult call of abandoning racing for the RS Tera sailors for the day. Das muss nicht sein, wenn man sich mit ein paar Basis- Techniken vertraut macht. Im Grunde gilt die Formel „Kraft x Hebelarm“ – wenn das mal immer so einfach wäre! Bei unsere Skippertrainings haben wir sehr gute Erfahrung mit der visuellen Darstellung von Hafenmanövern gemacht. Ob für Segelanfänger oder erfahrene Schiffsführer, die Darstellung auf dem Manöverboard fördert den Lernefekt und das Verstehen der gesamten, manchmal auch komplexen, Situation. Die Formel für ein erfolgreiches Training sagt: Von den Informationen, die wir aufnehmen behalten wir: 10 Prozent Gelesenes, 20 Prozent Gehörtes, 30 Prozent Gesehenes, 50 Prozent Gehörtes und Gesehenes, 70 Prozent selbst Gesagtes und 90 Prozent selbst Getanes. Aus unserer Sicht wird „das Gesehene“ bei der Segelausbildung oft unterschätzt. Aus dem Grund haben wir Manöverboard entwickelt. Die Basis bildet eine 40x40 Magnetplatte, auf der durch verschiedene Magnet-Elemente die unterschiedlichsten Hafen-Situationen nachgebaut werden können. Das Schiff ist aus einem 3mm Acrylglas und mit Klampen versehen. Mit dem Zubehör aus unterschiedlichen Leinen, Wind-, Ruderlage- und Fahrtrichtungspfeil können so im Vorfeld die Manöver in Ruhe mit der Crew besprochen und auch die Leinenarbeit sehr anschaulich dargestellt werden. Das Manöverbord kommt in einer handlichen Segeltuchtasche und kann problemlos verstaut werden - ein weitere Schritt für erfolgreiche An- und Ablegemanöver. This Fountaine Pajot Venezia 42 has been thoroughly refitted both technically as optically. Literary everything has been overhauled, rebuilt, renewed, checked and updated. The owner, a skilful engineer, has spent 3.5 years, 3000 hours and a mind-boggling amount of 300.000 euros to bring this catamaran in her current ready-to-go on a world cruise condition. The list will be too long to sum up everything. But, to give you an idea about the works carried out we can tell you that e.g. the entire hull under the waterline had a full preventive osmosis treatment, got an extra 2 layers of tri-directional long strand glass fibre with epoxy resin and received a 5-layer copper coat. The original non-sked deck surface has been replaced by a new non-skid layer, the saloon roof has been reinforced, deck- and escape hatches have been replaced, the complete electrical system has been re-engineered and rewired, the freshwater system has been replaced, spade rudders were redesigned, etc. etc. She is, of course, very well equipped with two 30hp diesel engines, bronze folding props, 5kW generator, solar panels, lithium batteries, a comprehensive navigation package, water maker, life rafts, etc. Also the interior of this Fountaine Pajot Venezia 42 has not been overlooked. The liner in the saloon has been renewed, the galley has been overhauled, all lights have been replaced, floors have been reinforced, etc. Furthermore she is fitted out with new upholstery, new toilets, new mattresses, new faucets, a washing machine, etc. This cat is a safe and highly reliable cat; everything is well thought out, all works are carried out with precision, and only high quality materials have been used. At the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, Ocean sat down with Rodney Longhurst, Owner and Chairman of Riviera Australia. Longhurst spoke to Ocean about the three main launches that took place at SCIBS, which included the 4600 Sport Yacht, the 465 SUV and the 78 Motor Yacht, three very different models. The forecast got plenty of crews twitched. With predicted wind speeds into the high twenties, these were conditions to take seriously. But when it came to the start, the fresh breeze was stil dawdling its way along the south west coast of the UK and failed to turn up for the opening stages of Day 4 at Cowes. And when it did arrive it wasn't as punchy as we'd expected, but it still delivered some great conditions. Our featured classes today were the Contessa 32 and the HP30s, two similar sized boats separated by very different performances downwind.

What can I say... this is a pretty intense episode but if you're all in on the journey you have to expect that things can change in an instant and handle them as best you can at the time. As we push off from Manzanillo in Mexico it suddenly becomes apparent to us that we are in long line fishing territory. We have plenty of people on board and get everyone taking turns to be on look out for the tiny plastic bottles that are used as buoys and strung together for miles. It really becomes challenging when we catch long lines on our rudders and then on our fishing line... twice! As we cut ourselves free from the long line our own fishing lure embeds itself deep into the soft thumb pad on Kris's hand and panic ensues as we struggle to remove the hook. Obviously this isn't the only content in the episode. There is still plenty of family fun to entertain you as we head toward Acapulco. Please, if you do any sort of fishing we strongly recommend you educate yourselves of some of the best ways to remove a fish hook from your body. Our method was pretty brutal but there are other methods we have since learnt and hopefully will not need to use.
