We had heard whispers of this place called Railay Beach — and it turned out to be even better than we imagined. Towering limestone cliffs, bright blue water, a chilled little village full of climbers and cafés, and the sweetest family adventure vibes. This has easily become our favourite place in Thailand. 💛 But life on the ocean always keeps you on your toes… and on our sail back to Phuket, something floating in the water caught our eye. At first we thought it was just a coconut. It wasn’t. And our amazing week took an unexpected twist. Join us as we: Sail into stunning Railay Beach Try rock climbing + free water soloing for the first time Explore caves, beaches, hidden rock jumps, and Railay’s blue water Soak in the village vibe and climbing culture And end the week with a rescue we never saw coming Life out here is equal parts wonderful and weird — and never, ever boring. In this video, we’ve begun the long trek south from Cairns back to Brisbane – we will do over 780 nautical miles all up (depending on how many detours we take!). It took us 185 days to meander our way north, but with only 25 days to get south of Gladstone for insurance, we’re now doing some big sailing days to make it happen. Part 1 of the journey covers Cairns to Cape Gloucester – 309nm in just six days! We’re tired but it was worth every mile to have squeezed in a few more days exploring the Great Barrier Reef. The Queensland coastline is huge, and this leg included Kym’s second-ever night sail… which we accidentally did in total darkness after miscalculating the moonrise! But we made it, safe and salty, ready to gear up for Part 2 as we continue the push south toward Gladstone. In this video we also reference our log book - if you're interested in seeing more on this, check out this video: https://youtu.be/dXTq3IqAdOA Thanks for watching. This was my very first swim with our little humpback whale buddy who ended up spending so much time with us. I was so excited I could hardly believe I was actually in the water with him — I even kept talking to him like he could understand every word. He circled back again and again, slowing down each time to check me out. There are several incredible close-ups of his eye as he glides past me, and the whale song is so loud you can feel it vibrating through your chest. One of the most beautiful parts of the encounter was his mom, calmly cruising just below us the entire time, patiently waiting while he finished visiting with me. This is one of those unforgettable ocean moments you carry forever. 🌊💙🐋 #HumpbackWhale #WhaleEncounter #SwimmingWithWhales #WhaleSong #OceanMagic #MinervaReef #MarineLife #WhaleWatching #WildlifeMoments #NatureLovers #SailingLife #UnderwaterAdventure #OceanVibes #ExploreTheOcean

Sailing from Galicia to the Canary Islands, a night of drifting, patience, and chasing the wind. 🌊⛵ After the lightning storm, we were caught in a long windless calm and motored for almost four full days. Fuel was running low, just enough to enter the harbor. Will we reach the Canary Islands in time for Christmas? With no other option, we turned off the engine and simply drifted across the Atlantic, waiting for the wind to return. Finally, the awaited gusts arrived, carrying us toward our destination. The strong winds helped us make up lost time, and after 11 days at sea, we finally reached Tenerife, where Anna reunited with her sister. 🌊 If you enjoy the journey, don’t forget to subscribe and consider joining our Patreon crew for behind-the-scenes content and exclusive updates! Our dream dinghy has turned out to be a nightmare. In the last episode, we repaired the structurally cracked transom only to find out that the insurance adjuster notified us that the damage went beyond the crack. We patiently waited for the insurance claim which never came through. Ultralight Performance (UP) Boats promise of replacing the UP340 never came to fruition. UP Boats as of this posting no longer exists. Join us as we continue with the transom repairs and also fix other issues discovered with the UP340 before it was ever splashed. Were we hoodwink?, I do not know, we researched, analyzed, checked UP Boats reputation, and all came back OK. Somewhere between us ordering the UP340 and final delivery something happened. I can only speculate as I have no hard facts at this time. There were other customers that suffered worse than we did. For other UP customers, please post a comment and share your experiences for others to see. Subscribe and share in the adventure! Become part of the conversation by liking / sv.momentsintime As always, please feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. *** Please Read *** During our dinghy review process, we conducted thorough research—examining manufacturers and speaking with multiple owners to gather their insights. In our videos, we explained why we chose the UP340 from UP Boats, LLC, based in Opa Locka, Florida. It met all our criteria and was proudly made in the USA. Unfortunately, our UP340 arrived 14 months late and already showed visible damage while still on the delivery truck. The damage turned out to be structural, and we immediately reported it to UP Boats, LLC. Despite having shipping insurance and receiving repeated assurances that a replacement would be provided, none ever arrived. As of July 10, 2025, all communication with UP Boats, LLC has ceased. It now appears that UP Boats, LLC is no longer in operation. Numerous complaints and legal actions have been filed by other buyers, indicating we are not alone in this experience. A quick online search for UP Boats reveals a troubling pattern. We will soon be posting videos on this channel detailing the problems we encountered with our damaged UP340 and the steps we had to take to make it marginally seaworthy. In hindsight, the cost savings from purchasing the UP340 do not justify the compromises we faced. We would have been far better off investing in a proven, high-quality Offshore Cruising Tender such as the OCT 350. *** End of Read ***

Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! In this episode of Sailing into Freedom – “The Shed”, I’m on the outskirts of Saigon hunting for a cheap place to live close to the new boat factory. No glossy high-rises, no city comfort – just farms, back roads, friendly locals, language mishaps, and the desperate search for a tiny shed or granny flat near the river so we can keep the sailing project moving forward. Come along for a real look at the sailing lifestyle behind the scenes – border shuffles, budget living, house-hunting in Vietnam, and a cliffhanger: will the landlord even rent to a foreigner? All this while we push on toward our dream of freedom, cruising, and life on the sea. #sailing #sailingintofreedom #sailboatlife #sailingvietnam #liveaboard #offgridlife Get your Sailing Into Freedom Crew T-shirt: https://teespring.com/stores/sailing-into-freedom Want more? If you buy this boat, you'll need this book: https://bethecaptain.com/ Ever dreamed of starting a YouTube channel — and blowing up instantly? This 82-foot abandoned yacht might be the craziest “content cheat code” I've ever seen. Tonight on the Sailing Truth Show we’re looking at a massive Dutch-built aluminium Trintella that’s been sitting unfinished for decades… and heading to auction for $28,000. For 99% of sailors, this is a financial nightmare. For a new YouTuber? This might be the most powerful story engine you could ever buy. In this episode we’re breaking down: ⚓ Why this 82-foot boat was abandoned ⚓ What it would really cost to finish ⚓ Who should take on a project this insane ⚓ Why the story alone could carry a YouTube channel ⚓ What makes big, impossible builds go viral ⚓ How couples and creators use projects to explode their channels ⚓ Why dream projects are also the most dangerous ones If you’ve ever thought about starting a channel — or taking on a big refit — this episode is for you. And if you want the real offshore truth… we’re going deep tonight.

So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. The majority of the accidents and damages are the result of bad preparation and bad habits. One of the worst habits is the passing through the line on the guardrail amd in general the complicated attachment of our lines and cables on the boat. The critical moment we want to release fast we will forget it and we will have unnecessary drama. Overview The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has announced preventive water releases from both Gatún and Madden/Alhajuela dams due to lakes approaching maximum operational levels . This is a flood-control action, not routine water management. Discharges can cause rapid and dangerous rises in the Chagres River and downstream low-lying areas. Areas Impacted 1. Chagres River – Upper Basin (Alhajuela) Expect sudden increases in river levels and strong, fast-moving currents. Jungle areas, banks, and campsites can flood with little warning. 2. Chagres River – Lower Basin (Gatún Dam) Rapid downstream surges toward Gatún, Piña, Achiote, and Fuerte Sherman. Increased debris and turbulence. 3. Gamboa Region / Canal Crossings Although primary canal operations remain normal, the surrounding riverbanks and backwaters may be unstable. Immediate Captain Guidance All Ocean Posse vessels and crews ashore in Panamá should exercise heightened caution: Avoid all Chagres River activities (dinghy runs, kayaking, SUP, inland tours) until ACP declares levels stabilized. Stay clear of riverbanks, jungle trails near the waterline, and low-lying camps. If you hear ACP sirens, move immediately to higher ground. Expect turbid water, floating logs, and strong currents near any river outflow areas. If planning to transit the Canal, note that lock operations are unaffected, but watershed conditions remain dynamic. For Captains Already Inland If crew or guests are on excursions: Confirm their operators are aware of ACP releases. Request immediate route changes away from rivers or creeks feeding the Chagres basin. Maintain reliable VHF, cell, or satellite comms. Why This Matters Releases from Gatún and Alhajuela can raise water levels meters within minutes. These events are rare but serious and are only triggered when lakes reach near-capacity due to heavy rainfall. Recommended Monitoring ACP Water Dashboard: Real-time lake levels Local Civil Protection (SINAPROC) alerts Gamboa Bridge & Gatún area reports from local mariner groups Ocean Posse chat for on-the-water observations Status This advisory remains active until ACP announces the conclusion of preventive discharges. Expect intermittent releases over the coming days depending on rainfall.

Ahoy! Sailing bliss or disaster? We're leaving the Eagle Point marinara a raw sail downwind to our marina in Lake Dallas. Cyndi and I have come this far to try our hand at a downwind wing-on-wing sail plan, after an easterly beam reach, then a westwardly sail. We had a great time practicing the training run and the down-wind sail setup. We leave our old friend, Sneaky Pete's Grill, and Eagle Point Marina behind and press forward, sailing back to Lake Dallas in our Catalina C-30 Tall Rig sailboat named Zanadu! What began as quiet days of work, turned into one of the most unsettling moments we've experienced while sailing. In broad daylight one morning, a neighbouring yacht in our anchorage was boarded at gunpoint by men arriving in a fishing boat. They demanded drugs and struck the sailor over the head, before fleeing empty handed, a stark reminder of how quickly paradise can turn. With almost no wind forecast between Vanuatu and New Caledonia, we expected a gentle crossing and plenty of motoring — and that’s exactly what unfolded. 330 nautical miles of calm seas, quiet days, and steady hours on board as we made our way toward New Caledonia. This episode is a simple, honest look at life at sea when the ocean turns silky smooth. No drama, no storms — just the two of us, Te Tāiko, and three and a half days of motoring, reading, resting, and watching the miles slowly tick by. If you love sailing, travel, adventure, or the peaceful side of passage-making, this calm ocean journey is for you. As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Skippering our friend's Leopard 45 as we sail from Tahiti to Fiji should be a lovely sail but are facing a 900nm storm with 50 knot winds and 5m seas. In this episode we actually sail right into the storm and the auto helm can't cope, we hand steering all night, we have 40-45 knots and 4 metre confused, peaking seas that pound the boat and the people in every direction, and in the middle of it, the boat starts leaking - TRULY AWFUL!!! The ARC is the original transocean rally for cruising yachts. Around 150 boats set sail every year in November, sailing from Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria to Rodney Bay on Saint Lucia. The rally attracts people of all ages and nationalities, sailing monohulls, multihulls and even motor boats from 27 feet to 100 feet (8.23m-32m). Over 8,000 boats have sailed with us to the Caribbean since the first ARC in 1986. The 2,700NM Atlantic crossing takes around 18-21 days for the average yacht. The record is 8 days and six hours, set by the maxi Rambler 88 (USA) in 2016. This year we are bringing you along with live broadcasted updates starting from Tuesday 18th of November and then every day at 16.00 UTC, until Sunday 23rd when the start will take place from 12.00 UTC. After more than two weeks in beautiful Villefranche-sur-Mer, it’s finally time to lift anchor and continue our journey along the French Riviera. Our first stop: the famous and unbelievably busy anchorage at Îles de Lérins. With nearly 300 boats filling the bay during the day, there’s constant action, people-watching, and everything from superyachts to paddleboarders drifting by. After soaking in the atmosphere for a day, we set off again—this time bound for iconic Saint-Tropez. With perfect conditions, we hoist our spinnaker for the first time this season and enjoy a stunning sail along the coast. We wrap up the day anchored just offshore from Saint-Tropez, ready to take you ashore to explore the town in next week’s episode. Join us aboard Helios as we trade crowded anchorages for open sails and classic Riviera charm. Let’s go! A quick sail to Black Point turns into more repairs, a few unexpected visitors, and a quiet toast to 12,000 of you who keep us going. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we move over to Black Point for a fresh view and a little breathing room. We tackle more of the lightning damage, visit the fish that has claimed our through-hull, and stop to admire a starfish. Then we head to White Point for a swim where a remora latches onto us and we raise a glass of Shipwreck to twelve thousand subscribers. ⚠️ The lightning strike changed everything on Dark Angel, and we’re still rebuilding piece by piece.
