[SUBTITLES TO COME SOON] Fue un momento muy especial.

The interesting thing about leaks on boats is that they are never located where you think they should be, so sometimes you have to play detective to find it. Interestingly enough sometimes the things that have no practical purpose on your boat such as the eyebrow on the cabin top side or a teak toe rail are things that boat owners do not take care off and are the source of a lot of leaks on boats. This is what we found on Reverie. As you know we are rebuilding our galley but with all the rain we had we found some leaks on the back corner of the galley. Now that is where they presented themselves, that was not the source of the leak. So here we go playing detective, using spy cameras to slide down tight spots to ultimately find our culprit. Now like every project on a boat, somethings you do things and have to wait for things to dry or cure before you can move forward, so we use that time to our advantage to finish cleaning our hear and finish the installation of our Inverter. The inverter was a big deal as we tested it by running our 12K BTU Dometic Air Conditioner on the renogy inverter and estimated how long we could run it. Hope you enjoy this update. 00:00 Intro 00:59 Spy Cam between Cabin top and cabin liner 01:13 How the leaks manifest 01:48 Following a false lead… 02:29 Another Leak 03:04 Reverie organized……..before we made a mess again……. 04:16 Removing the liner panel to expose under the cabin top winch and cleat. 06:53 Spy Cam from cabin top down side. 07:24 True source of leak revealed!! 08:20 Confirming the culprit (leak) 09:14 Repairing the leak, a note about Silicone 11:12. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. This time on Sailing Intermission Steve finishes strengthening the davits or should we say sheerlegs. We traveled to Dallas for some face-to-face business. Staying two nights at the circa 1922 Magnolia Hotel gave us enough time to visit our old dancing clubs, AT&T’s Discovery District and play with the steers at Pioneer Plaza. Once back on-board Isabella Steve constructed a rope ladder for easier on-off maneuvers when coming into a new port/marina. A warm shout out to our subscribers. Kate hits the beach before a big storm with 50 knot wind gusts hits the boat. See how we ride it out as we prep and provision to go sailing further into the south Atlantic ocean. https://www.predictwind.com/?ref=sailingsweetruca #sailing #storm #lightning It's time to start heading south, but before we do we find a neat little private anchorage to sail to first. As we wait for our weather window to leave, we head into town to provision. However, a storm comes much earlier than expected, catching us off guard. You won't believe how we handle this one! Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J(it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We sailed to Maine, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Grenada, Sint Maarten, the Azores, Canary Islands, and Brazil, on our way south to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile to sail around Cape Horn and into the Patagonia fjords. We never intended to become influencers or start a new YouTube sailing channel, but now it is what we do. We love sharing our experience and adventures with you. We have learned to fly the drone and edit videos, trying to produce relaxing and listenable videos for you to sail away and watch at home while having coffee on Sunday mornings.

A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Yeah, seasickness for all! A pod of dolphins played in our bows before we caught some fish. And we sailed right past Lady Liberty herself! What an awesome trip!!! We've been working on renovating our 1996 Charter catamaran into an owenrs version with a luxury owners suite! In the recent videos we have been tearing out the original interior of our catamaran sailboat and planning the renovation. Now that our sailboat is mostly a blank slate, we have started the refit. The first step is to rebuild the cabin sole with new flooring and bilge access. Join our crew! We’re a small family living aboard our catamaran, Wanderlust, sailing to Harbors Unknown. Exploring the world, connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how great food can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. Seeking to balance the desire to explore and travel to beautiful, remote locations while leaving no footprint, minimizing the Hawthorne effect of the observers who change the environment she or he observes. We hope to inspire people and showcase the possibility of living an alternative lifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment, all while keeping it real. Sharing the trials and tribulations of living off-grid, acknowledging the discomfort of detoxing from the modern world, finding pleasure in the subtleties of nature and joy in simplicity. Attempting to understand what makes the world tick and tock but also trying to gain a deeper comprehension of ourselves and identify what will satisfy that hunger for further exploration, for purpose. We got hit head on by a jetski!!! Emergency repairs and the full story on what happened. We left the Salvation Islands feeling rejuvenated after our Long Sail along the north coast of Brazil and it took us less than 24 hours to get to the Du Maroni River. The current was strong along the coast of French Guiana pushing us along faster than we anticipated. We got to the mouth of the du Maroni River at day break after trying to slow down as much as we could. We wanted to enter the mouth of the river in daylight because we had noticed there were A LOT of fishing boats along the coast. Luckily we got there in daylight because the fishing nets in the mouth of the river were crazy, nets were strung between the red and green channel markers from far out at sea all the way into the river mouth. There were times where we had to go around channel markers to try and avoid the nets as well as stop in our tracks, pivot go back on our track and turn around while waiting for fishermen to lift their nets out of the water. It was nerve wrecking and we were all out on deck with binoculars trying to spot the next obstacle. We knew that we were entering the river just after low tide but we wanted to be able to get up the river in daylight so we pushed through. The current was incredibly strong while we put our engines at 2000rpm and above we were lucky to move at 1.5 to 3 knots. It took us 11 hours from getting to the channel markers outside of the river to us being safely on a mooring ball. After about 10 and a half hours of pushing up the river we could just see the masts of yachts in our binoculars, we all started to get excited after a very long day! The excitement turned to pure panic which turned to pure anger in a matter of minutes. Two jetskis started approaching us at top speed coming straight for the nose of the yacht, they were coming at such a speed we thought maybe they were coming to tell us something urgently or were part of the Saint Laurent Du Maroni marina coming to talk to us. The jetskis were coming at us with such intent, at such a crazy speed, and straight for the front of the yacht before cutting it very fine and shooting around the side of the yacht and we realized they were just playing chicken! Teagan, in the saloon, called to wake Colben to have more hands on deck as we were approaching SLM. As she got to the staircase there was an ALMIGHTY crunch and crash. As she stood at the top of the stairs she felt the entire port side hill lift and twist out of the water and smash back down. The crash sound will always live in our memory banks with the feelings of pure panic. Everyone ran up front on deck and we saw the one jetski next to the yacht, we assumed he was the one that hit us and was okay. We started screaming at him and proceeded to run towards the front of the yacht to asses the damage. We were sure that we would be taking on water as the jetskis sit low in the water and immediately thought the damage was below waterline. After getting to the front of the yacht we saw the second jetski, there were two guys on it and the passenger had fallen off and was swimming back to the jetski. After making sure they were alright we started assessing the damage. The damage was luckily above water level but we were still unsure if there was any damage below the water line because we couldn’t get down to see the damage. The jetski that hit us sped off and disappeared. The second jetski stayed behind because Teagan and Karen were trying to get as much details from him as possible while we were trying to do this he kept coming towards the yacht and hitting it, shooting back out turn around while spraying us with his wake and coming back and hitting the yacht again, we assumed this was because he wasn’t familiar with how to actually use a jetski. After a lot of screaming he assured us they were insured and he gave us his number. With very little facilities in the area we were so worried about if we were taking on water we wouldn’t be able to haul out to do repairs. We made it to SLM after that in 15 minutes. Luckily we had Alex (a fellow yacht owner at the anchorage) who helped us onto a mooring which was incredibly helpful because we were all very shaken. After speaking to the police and trying to get ahold of the phone number that the jetski had given us we came to a dead end with the police telling us that we would never find the jetski owner and the number we were given didn’t work. After a 5 days of back and forth with the authorities and our insurance company we gave up, did our emergency repairs and got out of SLM before the next weekends manic jetski activities started up again. Watch our video to get more detail on all of this and to see the damage to Saoirse. We are incredibly thankful that no one was hurt and that the damage was above waterline. This scenario could have gone so differently and been so much more detrimental both to Saoirse and the jetski owner.
