Highlights from Race Day 4 of the 2022 Resolute Cup, held September 12 - 17 at the New York Yacht Club - Harbor Court in Newport, R.I. The 23 teams competing in the 2022 Resolute Cup arrived on Monday, September 12, for on-site registration and mandatory practice on Tuesday, September 13. Racing is scheduled to run Wednesday, September 14, through Saturday, September 17, starting each day at 1030. Teams will compete in a qualifying series during the first two days of racing. For the qualifying series, the fleet will be broken into two groups and each group will sail roughly half of its races in the RS21 and half in the Sonar. Teams will be randomly assigned to a boat, and follow a rotation schedule throughout racing each day. There will be no bye races. After the qualifying series is complete, the top six from each fleet will move on to compete in the Gold Series Finals in RS21s. The remaining teams will compete in the Silver Series Finals in Sonars. Finals will begin on Friday, September 16, and all teams will start with a zeroed-out scoreline. Javerne est tout sale 😩, ben oui, au bout de trois mois et demi la poussière et l’humidité ont eu raison de sa belle couleur blanche. We sailed back to the mainland because the Balears got so crowded, but mainland Spain was Very Hot and hard to anchorages sheltered from the frequent eastern swell. So we went back to our favourite place. We are Sylvia & Micke, from Jämtland northen Sweden, who at the age of 60 bought our first sailboat in 2019 and after a season of sailing decided to take the chance and sail out into the world without musts and requirements. Mai 2022: wir segeln mit einer Bavaria 40 Cruiser aus 2008 von der Lefkas-Marina Richtung Zakynthos in die Ship Wrack Bay und erkundeten das Ionische Meer. Wir waren auf Kefalonia, Ithaka, Kalamos, Atokos, Meghanisi. Teil 2: Erst Dienstag Mittag verließen wir die herrliche Bucht vor Poros und segelten gemütlich (bis fast gar nicht) bis Ithaka in die Bucht Pera Pighadi. Dort blieben wir die Nacht vor Anker. Mittwoch segelten wir Richtung Atokos. Eine sehr imposante Bucht, die uns aber zu voll wurde und so segelten wir Richtung Ithaka nach Frikes. Weil wir noch nicht in den Hafen wollten, ankerten wir in der Bucht davor, bis um 15 Uhr noch mal richtig Wind aufkam und wir noch mal mit über 20 kn im Amwindkurs zwischen Ithaka und Lefkada hin und her segelten. Nur so zum Spaß mit über 20 kn Wind und über 8,5 kn Speed. Was ein Ritt ;) Um 17 Uhr bekamen wir dann den letzten Platz in Frikes an dem Kai, bei dem wir auf das 2. mal gut mit Buganker anlegten. Am Donnerstag ging es von Frikes weiter nach Kalamos in die Bucht Porto Leone. Auch ein feiner Ankerspot mit vielen Ziegen. Freitag motorten wir über Meganisi (Badestop) zurück zum Lefkas Stadthafen. Tanken klappte trotz 20 kn Wind gut. Anlegen leider nicht aber der Vercharterer hat das Schiff auch nicht angelegt bekommen ... naja, da bedarf es noch Übung. Teil 1: Am Donnerstag, den 27.05.22 flogen wir nach Thessaloniki, da das Flugticket 200 Euro pro Person günstiger war, als nach Preveza. So besichtigten wir gleich mal Thessaloniki. Der Bus kostete nur 35 Euro vin Thessaloniki nach Preveza. Leider verpassten wir den Anschluss-Bus Von Preveza nach Lefkas und benötigten noch einmal ein Taxi (45 Euro). Würden wir diesen "Umweg" noch mal machen? Nein. Einmal war toll! Thessaloniki war nett. Die Busfahrt war auch ok aber es braucht doch bis zur Marina mindestens 4 Stunden. Und da wir leider ein Taxi benötigten statt der 3 Euro Bus-Tickets war der finanzielle Vorteil dann nicht mehr ganz sooo groß. Am Samstag starteten wir früh von der Lefkas Marina nach Ithaka in die Skinos Bucht. Von dort ging es am Sonntag direkt weiter nach Zakynthos in die AG Nikolaos, um am nächsten Morgen früh in die Shipwreck Bay zu starten. Am Montag waren wir also um kurz nach 8 Uhr und hatten den Strand und das Wrack für uns alleine! Leider liegt die Bucht so früh noch im Schatten. Und ab 9 Uhr kamen ganze Horden von Menschen. Wir segelten danach fein mit raumen Wind nach Kefalonia und warfen den Anker in türkises Wasser in den Poros-Strand. Nous partons de Saint Vaast la Hougue pour Carentan, après une super navigation, nous voilà dans le chenal de Carentan, la hauteur d'eau n'est pas très élevée mais nous arrivons sans soucis dans le marais. Cette partie est très jolie et après une petite heure de moteur nous arrivons dans l'écluse juste avant de s'amarrer au port où nous passerons juste une nuit. Le port est très sympa et bien calme. Départ prévu à 5H30 le lendemain pour avoir de l'eau dans le chenal ,nous perdons un peu de temps dans l'écluse car malgré le fait que nous avions contacté l'éclusier avant de quitter les pontons , le sas n'est pas prêt . Au lever du soleil, nous sommes tellement envoutés par le paysage, les couleurs du ciel, que nous n'avons pas était assez rapide pour traverser le marais et ce qui devais arriver arriva, nous talonnons une première fois ( nous étions dans le chenal mais plus du côté des boues bâbord) nous décidons de nous remettre au milieu du chenal et là nous voilà totalement échoué . Nos copains ont réussi à passer avec 30cm de tirant d'eau de moins que Oxten (1m40). Nous voilà échoué pour le temps d'une marée. Nous avons été suivis tout au long de notre mésaventure par le CROSS Jobourg. Après la remontée de l'eau nous constatons aucun dégât structurel ni matériel sur le bateau. Il est environ 15H30 ,un dernier check au téléphone avec le Cross et nous repartons pour notre destination initiale : Ouistreham. Nous ne reverrons malheureusement plus nos copains qui se sont arrêtés à Courseulles (nous n'avons pas eu la possibilité de nous y arrêter car nous sommes arrivés devant le port trop tard). Nous arriverons à Ouistreham à 23H30, le temps de contacter le Cross pour clore l'incident et on se couche complètement fatigué. Le lendemain dans l'écluse de Ouistreham, Paul de l'équipe du port, nous propose une inspection de la coque qu'il effectuera sur sa pause déjeuner. Un grand merci à lui. Il ne verra aucun dommage sur la coque. Nous devons vider le bateau car au moment où le bateau était échoué, le fait qu'il soit penché à plus de 40°, la vache à eau du coté tribord se retrouve plus haute que les robinets à bâbord, la pression l'eau de notre vache à eau c'est complètement vidée et une partie est arrivée dans les coffres. We will find out as we get ready for our sail to AFRICA Join us this week as we get ready for our longest sail yet: 11 days of non-stop sailing in the winter and without a weather window. The weather does not allow us to take a direct route, so we have to sail through the Messina Strait on our way to Tunisia. We edge through the notorious Strait of Messina in the middle of the night after a cold sail from Kalamata in Greece and experience engine failure just off the coast of Palermo. While the captain keeps our spirits up with some Cuban cuisine, it’s tough to see the small travellers we meet struggling with the tough Mediterranean winter weather. Sailing for 11 days in the middle of the winter without an option to stop can be challenging but now all that separates us from our destination is more unpredictable weather. In the summer it’s a popular anchorage for sailors, charter boats, day trippers and cruisers alike. We arrive in November and were the only sailboat at anchor there. After battling gale force winds for almost two months, we decided to sail west. A friend we made during the summer recommended us an abandoned Marina in the Peloponnese. Here we found time to stitch our sail, get our cats vaccinated and fill our energy levels. But just 4 weeks later we had to press on and sail to Tunisia. While our 90 days in Europe are up, we are now left without a weather window to sail directly to Africa. So, we had to make a detour of over a hundred nautical miles leading us through the Strait of Messina. That’s sailing life for you! Do you want to know what real boat life feels like? On 12th September 2022, we relaunched NV after a 2 year refit in Vuda Marina, Fiji. NV was originally designed, built and raced by famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa in the Vendée Globe, a non stop single handed around the world race known as the "Everest of the Seas". She came 5th in the 1992 Vendée Globe, making Nándor the first non frenchman to finish the race. Russian adventurer Fedor Konyukhov raced her in the 1998 Vendée, becoming the first Russian in history to participate in the event. He didn't finish and abandonded the boat in Sydney due to technical problems. In Australia she was extened by 6 feet and competed in the offshore races, most famously under the name "Broomstick". Two years ago we took over the reins to turn her into a fast family cruiser and give this old gladiator a new lease on life.
