Join us weekly for more boat restoration fun! In this weeks episode we finally get to relaunch the boat, yay us! But first we have a lot of cleaning and polishing of the topsides of the boat. An arduous and exhausting process. Once we finally got that done we drilled a hole in the boat and installed our Airmar DST 810 triducer. And to finish off we installed 4G wifi on the boat with a Teltonika RUT 955. Then ground back the bottom of the keel, slathered it in primer and anti-foul.

Wow that was close! After a week of running from this storm, we make it into our Winter Marina in Italy and the next day it hits, I'm so relieved I really felt the pressure this time, there was no where to hide and sit it out and I had the kids lives in my hands, it's crazy how sailing is so amazing but can be so scary at times too! Finally got some time to finish the last episode of season one on Little Bird. We complete our 1600 mile sailing passage on our Balance 526 catamaran going from Egg Island on Eleuthera, through the Abacos, and up to St Augustine Florida (thankfully, all was fine for us in Hurricane Ian). Our friends Meg and Pete were still with us for the passage. After making it to Florida, it was hurricane prep, sails off, and up on-the-hard until after Halloween. In 2021, we sailed our Balance 526 Catamaran from Cape Saint Francis, South Africa to the island of Grenada in the Caribbean on a 30 day passage. Since then, we've been sailing up the islands exploring beautiful anchorages and meeting great people. Over the next few years, we'll be sailing through the Bahamas, San Blas, Panama, and across the Pacific. With any luck, eventually we'll sail around the world. We're from Santa Cruz, California and grew up in and around the water. This is our third catamaran (we also had a Seawind 1000 and Catana 431) and eight boat (fishing boats, monohulls... boats tend to take over sometime!). It has been a week like no other so far, in the wind powered land speed world record campaign, with Horonuku, finally reaching its destination at Lake Gairdner in South Australia. When Glenn Ashby said last week “Lets get ready to go” he meant it. The trigger was pulled, and the wheels were in motion literally. This is the weekly "Sailing World on Water" for October 07, 2022. We feature global highlights of the sport which have been released in the last seven days. Thousands of square meters of sails were lowered in a joyful din this Saturday-evening at the end of a breathtaking closing day for the first part of the Voiles de Saint-Tropez 2022. The particularly virile conditions of this final day had led the committee and the teams from the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez have turned the program upside down from early morning to take advantage of a tough but more manageable window at the start of the morning. After four races at the Royal Cup 52 SUPER SERIES Scarlino regatta in Tuscany Italy, there have now been different winners in every race. Takashi Okura’s 2021 circuit champions Sled, are tied with Quantum Racing, at the top of the leaderboard while Andy Soriano’s Alegre, today moved up to third overall. Emirates Team New Zealand’s land yacht ‘Horonuku’, has had its first day of sailing on Lake Gairdner in South Australia, with pilot Glenn Ashby behind the wheel ,in his bid to eclipse the 2009 wind-powered world record speed of 202.9 kilometres per hour. 400 Windsurfers will be at the 2022 World Windsurfing Championships in Palermo Sicily which started this week. It was an amazing day 1 when the huge number of windsurfers hit the starting line. The waters of the Golfo di Follonica Tuscany, continue to deliver excellent racing conditions for the Royal Cup 52 SUPER SERIES Scarlino. Winds gusting over 25 knots were registered for Race 5 of the ten race series.. Glenn Ashby made the most of an opportunity to get his head into the high-speed game, with a day driving laps, with the Toyota Gazoo Racing team, out at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park south of Auckland. Doug DeVos’ Quantum Racing won the Royal Cup 52 SUPER SERIES Scarlino title in Tuscany Italy, their third regatta triumph of the five event 2022 52 SUPER SERIES season. They overturned a one point deficit to triumph by five clear points ahead of Takashi Okura’s Sled.

The second Southern Wind Rendezvous of 2022, held from September 9th to 11th in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia, was truly memorable! Off to a challenging start, the strong Mistral winds gusting at up to 37 knots did not stopped Southern Wind owners to head out and sail, confident that their yachts could handle the conditions in safety. And so it was that the Southern Wind Rendezvous was an incredible event, fun for owners, fun for their crews and a real spectacle even for those who could only catch a glimpse of performance sailing at its best. Everyone enjoyed stretching their yacht’s sea legs along courses that were 20 to 30nm long, through the breathtaking scenery that Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda offers. Back to the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo after exhilarating days on the water, owners and their crews brought that atmosphere of carefree family spirit that characterises SW Rendezvous events, trading notes on their yachts and enjoying cheerful community moments in true Southern Wind spirit! Once again, the Rendezvous has offered the ultimate platform to enjoy sailing together on board amazing yachts in a context where the Southern Wind family is the protagonist.
