Sometimes moving the boat is all about timing, things can be SO much easier if you are able to work with the wind and not against it. Before I am able to depart for Iceland I first need to extricate the boat from a very narrow alley way in the marina that is impossible for me to traverse solo with any kind of breeze blowing as I have no bow thruster, no crew to man the fenders, no assisting dinghy and no one take the lines when I dock the boat again- impossible? Well, maybe not if I can find a moment when the breeze is sufficiently light, the tide is low and I can use my smarts to make a hard job easy. When is the bat time for such a move? Turns out the answer is about 3am. Designed specifically for the family leisure market, Antares 7 adopts innovative solutions that make it the perfect choice for longer excursions. The fittings are designed to make sailing and life on board as comfortable as possible, making this a relaxing, versatile weekender. Antares 7 is also available in a Fishing version, with a deck layout and equipment designed for a great fishing experience. Easy to transport by road, Antares 7 promises a wealth of new discoveries and coastal sailing experiences. Learn more: https://www.beneteau.com/us/antares-outboard/antares-7-OB -- About BENETEAU -- The first BENETEAU boats sailed from the shipyards of Croix-de-Vie over 135 years ago. Since that time, the BENETEAU brand has been synonymous with quality and innovation to all those who have taken to the water – first by the fishermen who made their livelihood from the sea and then by the legions of recreational boaters around the globe. Over the years, our commitment to innovating and embracing ideas, no matter how unconventional, has been at the forefront of who we are in order to bring you the best boat possible. BENETEAU was one of the first boatbuilders many years ago to use computer-aided design (CAD) as well as lighter, stronger composite building materials. We’ve also been at the cutting edge of using greener materials and processes to do our part in protecting the incredible world which we explore. However, all this innovation doesn’t mean we’ve turned our back on tradition. One thing we’ve discovered in over a century of boatbuilding is that new-world innovations work best with old-school craftsmanship. This combination has resulted in some of the most iconic sailboats and powerboats in the world – supremely seaworthy yachts renowned for their sense of style, luxury, and comfort along with their creative use of space and new technologies. -- Philosophy -- We’re a lot like you. We love the water in all its forms – the ocean, bays, lakes, and rivers. And we love sharing the boating lifestyle with our family and friends. This love manifests itself in every BENETEAU built in any one of our many manufacturing facilities worldwide. Every BENETEAU sailboat and powerboat on the water reflects the best efforts of the finest architects, designers, and craftsmen along with the highest quality materials and the latest innovations. When you purchase a BENETEAU, you become a valued member of our BENETEAU family. For this reason, our after-sale service is second to none as evidenced by the multitude of National Marine Manufacturers CSI Awards for Excellence in Customer Service. At the core of this outstanding service is our exceptional dealer network. Every one of our authorized BENETEAU dealers will be there for you – from choosing the right yacht to the handover and beyond. Your dealer will be your able guide when it comes to maintaining your boat properly and will help you maximize the return on your investment when it comes time to step up to another BENETEAU – and it usually does! One of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets, the island of St Croix is almost completely surrounded by a barrier reef offering some of the best diving in the Virgin Islands. In this video we explore one of our favorite dive sites, located just off of St Croix's West shore. Devastated by Hurricane Hugo in 1989, the remains of St Croix‘s original Frederiksted Pier were gathered and sunk in Butler Bay at depths of 80-100 ft, creating an artificial reef for Caribbean Reef Sharks and named Armageddon. Want to dive Armageddon? Join us aboard CruiseNautic. We are a full service PADI dive boat offering both weekly and daily dive experience options . In this video, we change the oil in our S130 Saildrive while the boat is still in the water. We have changed the oil in the drive before while the boat was on the hard, but this time take the opportunity to change the oil while the boat is afloat. Note you can't extract all the oil this way and you need to check the diameter of the extraction tube if your saildrive against the tube on the extraction point to make sure you get a good seal. I still recommend lifting the boat as the anodes will only last about a year but it's useful if you need to change the oil in the leg.

We are quietly minding our own business when Magnus notices that Nutshell is moving… A very large crocodile has Peanut’s painter in its jaws and is dragging us across the anchorage! It’s mayhem on Nutshell for a while whilst Magnus tries to prevent the crocodile from biting through Peanut’s painter and thus losing Peanut! We’ve never been so close to a crocodile before! That aside, we leave Freshwater Bay and make our way north to Cape Bougainville. It’s a slow sailing day with little wind and loads of tacks! We don’t quite make it around the Cape and anchor at Hat Point for the night. We catch plenty of sharks! We leave Hat Point and continue our journey. We finally end up at Parry Harbour after much too-ing and fro-ing. Then it’s south bound to the Osborne Islands. Thanks for watching. I reach the famous tourist town of Bar Harbor and find the anchorage on the northwest side satisfactory. I am able to provision at the nearby Hannaford supermarket before sailing across Frenchman Bay to the wide but sparsely populated Flanders Bay. On account of persistent light winds I remain anchored there for several days, during which I entertain some thoughts on the importance of working while you sail. @SailingFridaafWisby #SailingTheAtlanticIslands #madeira #sailing #sailboat #TravelBySailboat 00:00 This episode 00:29 Intro Sailing Frida af Wisby 00:54 Guided city walk 05:34 Sleigh ride without snow 08:38 Busstrip and Levada walk 17:30 Classic veteran car show 21:44 Grilltime for the first time in the water 23:04 How they make the flower carpets 24:31 We leave and set course towards the Azores In this episode we continue exploring the beautiful island of Madeira and we start with a guided citywalk with food and wine theme, after that we take the cable car up the mountain to do one of the famous sleighe tours down the hill. A couple of days later we make a bus trip with a short levada walk but with spectacular views when we got back to Funchal we stumpble into a classic veteran car show and spend some time looking at those classic beauties. We test our grill for the first time in the water. Right before we plan to leave I happend to see when the made a new flower carpet. But you have to watch the whole episode to find out if we really did leave for the Azores. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

In this episode, we cross paths with a very shallow reef system in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, with 2 tiny islands owned by Colombia called the Albuquerque Cays. They are rumored to be very beautiful, but have always been off-limits since we've been sailing in Colombia waters.. but we heard that there might be a possibility to visit if we are respectful of operations there, so we decide to douse our sails and pay the islands a visit and see what happens! When the AC72s of the 34th America’s Cup first lifted off on their foils they attained great speeds of more than 50 miles per hour, or close to three times faster than the wind, which few of us could ever have imagined. In fast these boats turned out to be much faster than even the designers expected. However these great speeds also brought great danger, which first came to light when Oracle Team USA capsized their AC72 during a practice session in San Francisco Bay after passing through the so-called “death zone”. But what exactly is the “death zone”? That’s exactly what we’re going to find out in this video. Modern sailing boats can sail in most directions relative to the wind, except straight upwind, with the fastest point of sail being a beam reach, where the wind is perpendicular to the direction of travel, or sailing across the wind. Race organizers know that sailing back and forth on a beam reach would just get boring for everybody, so they design courses with upwind and downwind legs instead, because it’s more challenging for the boats and their crew. Boats can’t sail straight upwind, but they can sail upwind at around 45 degrees to the true wind, so they tack back and forth in a zigzag pattern to get upwind. But going downwind, they also gybe in a zigzag pattern because it’s faster than sailing dead downwind, as they are still sailing across the wind, AC72 crews put the boat together on shore with the right size wing for the forecast conditions, to optimize efficiency for upwind and downwind sailing. But there are two points on the course where the boat has to pass through a beam reach, at the upwind and downwind turning marks. This is the most powerful point of sail, so the boat has a tendency to accelerate rapidly out of control, earning the name “death zone” by popular media. Many fast multihulls must deal with the “death zone”, but most have soft sails, so they can easily twist off the top of the main sail to depower it, which also moves the power down lower on the sail, and makes it easier to pass through the “death zone”, with the lower part of the sail still driving the boat forward. But the AC72s have rigid wings so you can’t twist off the top, and the whole wing needs to be eased to depower it. And if you depower too much you’ll fall of the foils, which is also slow and dangerous. Oracle Team USA had been practicing on San Francisco Bay in a building breeze, so they were on the verge of being overpowered even before they entered the “death zone” as they attempted to switch from upwind to downwind sailing. They were hit by a gust in the middle of the Death Zone, the boat accelerated rapidly, they were unable to depower the sails fast enough or turn out of the Death Zone because their rudder came out of the water, so they lost control and capsized. Thankfully nobody was hurt, however it did set the team back several weeks and cost a few million dollars to repair the boat. Somehow, they launched the comeback of the century and managed to win the 34th America’s Cup. Lots of electrical problems after my sail from San Andres to Panama. Not sure if it's a link with the lightning strike that hit the ocean behind me, but sure plausible as it now is easier to tell you what works than what's down. Hopefully, I can fix this but afraid it's going to cost quite a lot of money. Sailing is for sure full of surprises and hard work sometimes. On the good side Im learing a lot more about electronics now. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING AND SUBSCRIBING! Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now. Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor for decades. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway. PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS! I like to consider my returning viewers as friends. Rude comments and bad behavior equals banning from this channel. I'm more in for quality viewers than volume. I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things that might work for me might not work for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore. I enjoy sharing my mistakes as well as my knowledge and experience without trying to teach you anything. Discussions around topics designs and sailing are always welcome. Personal attacks are from my perspective so low it qualifies for being kicked out of my Chanel permanently without warnings.

While we were away, a bunch of new build supplies were delivered to us, including something that has Matt completely geeked - flush seacocks from Forespar!! (https://www.forespar.com/) Now, is it necessary for us to have seacocks that are flush to the hull, instead of the typical mushroom style head? No. Will we gain a noticeable amount of speed? No. Does it require extra work from us to install these? Yes. But even with all of that in mind, Matt just thought the idea of them was too cool to pass up. So follow along in this week's episode where he explains *why* he is so excited about this product, and what it takes to install one on our new catamaran. And, make sure to stay tuned to the second half of the episode where a new group of names goes up on the Hull of Fame!! We hope you enjoy. Much love from Annapolis! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

In this episode, we are on the hunt for storm-damaged boats. We have been told that a number of hurricane-damaged catamarans were taken to the marina on the north side of Antigua and that we may be able to salvage an old rudder to retrofit to Paikea as a replacement for the one we lost on our Atlantic Crossing. We get the kids to sail off the anchor rather than use the engines, which was a bit tricky with only one rudder, and head around the island in our very own attempt at being Pirates of the Caribbean. Of course, our efforts turned out to be fruitless and in all reality, it would have been just as much work to retrofit an old rudder as a temporary replacement as it's going to be to make a new set. We just had to tick that option off the list.
