Our launch is postponed due to a broken Travel-Lift, so we take a once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore Brazil and check our bucket list. You won't believe how! #sailing #sailboatlife #bucketlist #boatrestoration #itajai The launch of our sailboat after it's repair and restoration is postponed, due to a problem with the boatyard's travel-lift. While making finishing touches to our boats fiberglass repairs, Roxy grabs her camera and gives us a dogs eye view with "Roxy Cam" in a walk around the marina and the river in Itajai. We have a rare chance to check off a bucket list item, motorcycle touring in South America! Our new friends in Itaji loan us a BMW GS1200 touring bike to hit the back roads of southern Brazil. It is amazing. Then we learn about Guinea Fowls and Geckos in our Airbnb. Waking up with coffee in a new place while traveling is always an adventure. Kate also get's a haircut, check out the transformation. Next, with the extra time due to the breakdown in the boatyard, Curtis get's a chance to go mountain biking with his new friend Andre and Kate hits the water to learn to surf in Itajia, Brazil's spectacular surfing waves. Finally we are able to finish up a few last minute tasks, like installing our re-painted steering wheel and inserting the rudder as the boat is finally lifted. We take her for a test run in the river and back her into the dock to begin making preparations to head further south, to Uruguay! We love sharing our experience and adventures with you. We have learned to fly the drone and edit videos, trying to produce relaxing and listenable videos for you to sail away and watch at home while having coffee on Sunday mornings. Kate and Curtis both learn how to sail when they were young. Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J (it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We sailed to Maine, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Grenada, Sint Maarten, the Azores, Canary Islands, and Brazil, on our way south to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile to sail around Cape Horn and into the Patagonia fjords.

While sailing in the Caribbean we came across this adorable dog that was malnourished and stranded on a deserted beach. This puppy was so emaciated and starving that we took action and rescued her from this isolated beach in Carriacou, Grenada. Enjoy this heartwarming story on Sailing Sunday, as we rescue of this starving pup! It'll make your day and help raise awareness about the plight of neglected and abused animals out here in the Caribbean. In this episode Colin travels to Los Angeles to do a couple of podcasts with fellow below deck cast members, and also pick up a bunch of spare parts for the boat, as shipping to Costa Rica is ridiculously expensive. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Fabuleux me direz-vous !

Sailing in the Tuamotus we tasted coconut crab, and saw signs of colorful coral bleaching. Learn what colorful coral may be telling us. With help from a friend sailing on an older Outremer 55 , we fix the halter to the mainsheet that broke during an upwind sail. Enjoy the beautiful waters of the Makemo atoll with us! Our favorite charity that we support is THE CURE ALLIANCE, a foundation working to find a cure to vascular lesions in the brain, called CCMs (for cerebral cavernous malformations). Awareness of this disease is important, and we invite you to learn more on their web site. https://www.alliancetocure.org/newly-diagnosed/cavernoma-cavernous-angioma-malformation-fast-facts/ If you want to help find a cure, the link is here : https://angioma.networkforgood.com/projects/169422-support-lisa-s-chosen-charity Any level of support from our BioTrek-sailing audience to help find a cure from this devastating neurological disease will be greatly appreciated by the foundation. In this episode we sail from Muxia to Fisterra, and then onward to Praya de Augillerra (first beach day!), and then onward to Muros to wait out some weather. While we are in the marina we take a bus to the famous city of Santiago de Compostela, the end point of many "pilgrims" on long walking or biking journeys. We talk a bit about the Orca issue again, and then set out to continue south along Spain's Atlantic / Galician coast. Thanks for following! Video captured on Samsung Galaxy S10 and A12 phones, by a GoPro 8 (any underwater shots), and a Mavic Mini 2 drone (air shots). 138 sailors will start La Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe on Sunday November 6th. Four solo skippers in that huge fleet are out to defend the class titles they won four years ago on the 2018 edition of the race. Francis Joyon in returns in the Ultim 32/23 (IDEC Sport), Yoann Richomme in Class40 (Paprec-Arkea), Paul Meilhat (Biotherm) in IMOCA and Armel Tripon (Les P'tits Doudous) in Ocean Fifty. Ten days before the start, they explain their motivations and estimate their chances of a double. Since the creation of La Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe, only three sailors have achieved the double in the same class: Laurent Bourgnon in the ORMA trimaran (in 1994 and 1998), Roland Jourdain in IMOCA (in 2006 and 2010) and Franck-Yves Escoffier in the 50-foot multihull (in 2002 and 2006). Two other skippers have won twice in a row, but in different classes: Ellen MacArthur (in a 50-foot monohull in 1998 then in IMOCA in 2002) and Lionel Lemonchois (in ORMA in 2006 then in Multi 50 in 2010). For this 12th edition an unprecedented four sailors return to defend their titles.

JMYS was back at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor for the last Trawlerfest of 2022! This event is put on by Passagemaker Magazine, and is a great educational opportunity to find out more about the trawler lifestyle, whether you are new to cruising or just an old salt continuing to learn. Jeff Merrill, along with wife Pam Merrill, and Mark Pittman were on hand for the duration. JMYS had a booth on the docks and there was a lot of foot traffic between the seminars in the Marriott and the boats on the docks. We especially enjoy this area to host Trawlerfest, as it is centrally located in Baltimore and walking distance to hotels and restaurants! Catching up with friends after seminars was easy to organize and we had a great time overall. The seminars were engaging, the people were friendly, and the boats are always beautiful. Stucked due to the wind Inblåsta Peniche. No sailing winds Stucked. Sailing Portugal. Segla Portugal. We had to hang out here over 15 days but it was a fantastic cozy place to be inspired. Even though we were here for so long, it feels like we didn't have time to see everything. It could be because the weather was bad but also because we had such a good connection so we streamed movies all the time. We also got the flu. Created by InShot:https://inshotapp.page.link/YTShare

Marooned On A Lagoon 📅 You can’t sail on a schedule… We have been told this tag line over and over again and boy did it hold true on this trip. Before we started out on this adventure, we have many stops planned. There was provisioning to do, storage items to pick-up and last-minute good-byes to do. Unfortunately, 🌬 mother nature has her own plan… From the word go we have been chased by storms, wind and aggressive water and the best part is we had a beautiful 🌞 weather window to cast off into and this 56 Lagoon catamaran handled it like a champ. Poor Honu would have one heck of a rodeo. Thank goodness we are equipped with state-of-the-art electronics including 📡 Starlink.

Just a short one that shows a very experienced sailor reversing a Drascombe Lugger onto the club jetty here at Bala. I am only just starting to understand just how useful this Mizzen sail actually is. I'm suitably impressed and will be trying it myself soon!!

This is part instruction on how to grow an avocado tree from seed & part Interstellar parody. Throw in Ad Astra in the mix too. If you live in a tropical climate like California, Florida or Malaysia, grow an avocado tree & plant it. Why not?

Annapolis Yacht Club Saturday October 29th. The 17th Halloween Howl got off to a great start with three fleets on three circles: Optis Red White Blue and Green Club 420's and the ILCA.

My second go at sheet-to-tiller steering. Worked out well (though still pretty light wind). This time I remembered a useful bit of advice from @garymalm - about the tension in the jib sheet. You can watch Gary's video here (and in the Comments is my question to him, and his helpful advice): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOUgO-tSCDY&t=2s Sheet-to-tiller steering allows the boat to sail by itself & all you need is a few metres of line, a couple of blocks, and a few bungee cords. Very cheap & very simple. It just requires some practice. My first attempt is here: https://youtu.be/t9hyHLfeu4M
