The intensity at which clothing is consumed is unprecedented and is now heavily impacting the environment. The use of plastic, mainly polyester, gives life to cheap and low-quality clothing designs creating a lot of problems during each step of textile creation. The extraction of fossil raw materials, the CO2 emissions during production and transportation, the chemicals used for dyeing the clothes, the micro fibers released during laundry, not to mention the lack of recycling infrastructure are all devastating to the environment. “Back at sea again! And it just feels like one of these days at the @vendeeglobe . Super tired, a little bit worried, I don’t know if I actually make it because I have some problems with the engine. I think it’s gonna be fine but we have only 1L of engine oil. We discovered some water in the engine. So last night already it took me a big effort to get the engine going a fuse was blown and there was something wrong inside the engine, so I had to take the … out and today then I found water in the engine. This is quite worrying because energy is super important. The noise you hear now is the hydro generator which has a problem with it’s barring I think. Yeah, there we are, back at sea. It’s a bit grey now, there was sun earlier, then it gets super nice and warm inside the boat. I haven’t slept yet really, I think maybe 5 or 10 minutes here and there, just trying to get this engine going and the boat clean, and lots of tacks, so now I will try to get some sleep and then the world will look better!”

Getting an anchor stuck when you're having the anchor quite deep and then water isn't clear enough to see the bottom is always a worry. After a couple of days sailing the fantastic Autumn sunshine we have here in Montenegro we go to lift the anchor and find it completley stuck to the bottom. It was an area we expected to be mud, we don't know of any debris that might be on the sea bed, it's certainly not an industrial area, so it must be jammed under a rock. After being checked in into New Zealand there’s time to explore the bay. But first it’s time for a reunion with Glennis, who took great care of us last time we were in NZ.

We've spent so much time exploring the different coastal islands in Croatia and it's been amazing! The beauty we experienced in the mountains this week is really something else! We are so lucky to see the beautiful work of the Creator on this journey of ours. My mom and dad came to spend some time with us and it's so fun share this experience with family. We made our way back to Dubrovnik and I have to say, it is an incredible city! If you're in Croatia, you have to visit Dubrovnik. And if you're in Europe, you have to visit Croatia! We sail our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran from the Cape Cod Canal to Maine. We witness a power boat cutting a corner in Camden, Maine and ripping a whole in its hull after hitting a rock. It was a few minutes away from sinking. We get a visit from the Monty Python Frenchman and our family joins us for part of the trip. Do you know what an 20 year old life raft looks like? -No? Neither did we until we decided to inflate our old one on the dock. If it had inflated like this in the water, when needing it, it would probably have been a disaster. But other than that, it actually looks surprisingly well kept. After arriving to Le Havre in last week's episode, we jump right into boat work and spending time with the family. This is an episode filled with everyday life moments as we tackle the heat wave while trying to do something useful and explore this new destination. We get disappointed with the French ship chandeliers and cannot finish the watermaker installation as hoped. On the French national day, we go swimming in pretty bad weather and watch the fireworks over the marina. Sailing in the River Blackwater, I managed to get my 20' Norfolk Gypsy stuck aground on the bank of a creek at the worst possible time: the peak of high tide. As the tide went out, my boat was left stranded four feet above the river bed. And I wasn't sure if I would be able to get her off again. This is how it turned out and the lessons I learned.

Visite, sans rendez vous, du Sun ODYSSEY 380. Ce voilier est un petit peu plus petit que notre Dufour 375. Ne vous fiez pas aux appellations commerciales. Il reste en revanche très spacieux dans cette catégorie. je n’ai pas pu faire une investigation très complète de ce bateau, il y avait beaucoup de monde. En général sur les voiliers modernes, je regrette les rangements accessibles presque inexistants. Bonne visite.

We get branded in this video. Well, we brand ourselves by sticking on our Sailing Empress logo onto the bow of our Contest 36. We put the name on the transom including our port of call, Haarlem. We discover the rusty state of our anchor chain and find it really does need replacing. Catran gets lots of jobs done such as installing the AIS transceiver and the antenna for the AIS as well, of course as the Big VHF and GPS. Now we can see ourselves on the map! Catran gets serious about epoxy and reinforces the mount for the Raymarine autopilot, as well as the Vetus tiller arm. Catran puts some finishing touches on the solar panels, as to stop them banging on the boat. You can see our shiny new oven and induction cooktop and Michelle gets busy in the kitchen to discover their ability to reach souring temperatures, all powered by the sun! If you have any questions about the solar panel installation or the oven and stovetop installation, we have lots more footage of this and are happy to bring out another video on how we did this, just leave it in the comments section.
