Büyük mavi bakalım bizi nasıl kucaklayacak derken, sardı sarmaladı ancak biraz sertçe yaptı bu işi. Okyanusta ilk fırtına tecrübemizi de böylece yaşadık. 2 gün bir gece 40 Knot civarında rüzgarlar, 4 metreyi geçen dalgalarla kızımız Avare önemli bir sınav verdi. Tabii biz de. Taze hava durumu bilgisine de ulaşamadığımız için fırtınanın orta yerinde bir an evvel bitmesini diledik. Bu sınavdan Avare, Pamir, Gülnur ve Pamuk pekiyi alarak geçtik. Hedefe vardık salimen. Hiçbir lens göz kadar iyi görmüyor, göstermiyor. Videoda gördüğünüz dalgaları 2 ile 3 ile çarpabilirsiniz. Fırtına tariflerinde kademeli olarak anlatılır. Oluşan dalgalar birleşerek büyür ve tepesinden uçuşan sular dalgalardan aşağı doğru akar, fışkırır. Ne derseniz. Birleşen dalgalar birleştiği noktalarda adeta buz dağı gibi turkuaz renkte tepecikler oluşturuyor ve hiddetle ileri doğru püskürerek Avare'yi üzerine bindirerek ileri iteliyor. Normalde gövde süratimiz 6-7Knot iken yer yer 10 Knotları gördük göstergelerde. Tek tesellimiz stabil rüzgar olması. Tek trimle yol aldık. Bu yoğun konsantrasyon içinde yelken trimi ile oynamak daha da yorucu olurdu. Akdeniz'deki gibi. Denizler durulduğunda rahat nefes aldık ve büyük mavinin koynunda Kanarya Adaları'na vardık. 15 DAYS 400miles through narrow tidal channels can we make it in time?

Ep 5: ROUGH seas, near GALE and seasickness, Options takes us to Portsmouth and Isle of Wight. In Jonathan's "happy place" we witness the largest naval vessel leaving her home port. The aircraft carrier "Queen Elizabeth" is huge! We enjoy the delights of The Alchemist cocktail bar and restaurant, we regroup and recover after two weeks of "on the go". The detour from Ramsgate to Portsmouth and back added 240 nautical miles to our Long Way Down journey to the Med - and it was definitely worth it. Despite the sea sickness Sheenagh was very happy to make this passage, she got to cuddle our son again! While moored up I found the cause of a fault with the swing keel and the reason why our starboard winch was stiff! Time to prepare for repairs. Unable to repair Sheenaghs phone however, we needed to set up for one to be sent to Ramsgate. After a few sails I have a better idrea of where I want some cameras on the Lugger, so I go through the whole process of that. I htink I find a few decent places that should deliver some great video for the channel. I also attend to the Jib Furler. A bit of oil on the head swivel makes a huge difference and I get rid of the temporary shackle on the tack of the jib too. I finally get my Drascombe tiller extension arm and fit that. It does the job but I have to say i'm not impressed with what you get for £140. The handle doesn;t look well fitted and it's surely going to break. We set out for Pensacola but only got about 25 miles out when the diesel overheated. We returned to Galveston, got caught in high winds and were unable to sail into the jettys. TowBoat US wouldn't come out so the Coast Guard towed us in to an anchorage. We were stuck in Galveston for 2 weeks waiting for engine parts and repairs.

After waiting out storms, we leave Snake Cay headed for family time and adventures around other Abaco islands. ► Deuxième participation et première marche du podium pour Piment Rouge ► Nos lecteurs connaissent bien l’équipage de l’Outremer 51 Piment Rouge, régulier contributeur à Multicoques Magazine. L’an passé, pour la première édition de l’ARC+ à destination de Grenade et non plus Sainte-Lucie, le catamaran français avait franchi la ligne en tête mais avait dû s’incliner en temps compensé devant un NEEL 47. Cette fois, Piment Rouge n’a pas eu les honneurs de la ligne – il a été devancé par un Mylius 60 de la Classe A – mais s’impose en temps compensé dans la division Multicoques. A noter : le catamaran est arrivé 3 jours et demi plus tôt que l’an passé ! Une excellente performance qui pourtant n’a pas laissé beaucoup de marge : Hélia 2, un autre Outremer 51 américain celui-là, pointe à peine deux heures derrière ! Le troisième est Balance 3, un Lagoon 42 finlandais. Lors de la remise des prix organisé à la marina de Prickly Bay, au sud-est de Grenade, Pierre de Saint Vincent, le skipper de Piment Rouge, était disposé à assurer le spectacle. Ce grand amateur de musique métal et de fête en général est parvenu à susciter l’engouement des 400 équipiers présents. Précisons que 27 nationalités sont représentées et que l’âge des participants s’étend de 3 à 76 ans… Parmi les 91 bateaux, 20 sont des multicoques. ► Second time taking part and top step on the podium for Piment Rouge ► Regular readers will be familiar with the crew of the Outremer 51 Piment Rouge, a frequent contributor to Multihulls World. Last year, on the first edition of the ARC+ to Grenada instead of St. Lucia, the French catamaran took line honors, but dipped out on corrected time to a NEEL 47. This time, Piment Rouge weren’t first across the line - they were beaten by a Mylius 60 in the A Class - but they won the Multihull division on corrected time. Note that the catamaran arrived three and a half days earlier than last year! An excellent performance, though it was a close call: Helia 2, another Outremer 51, US-flagged this time, was barely two hours behind! Third place went to Balance 3, a Finnish Lagoon 42. At the prize-giving ceremony held at Prickly Bay marina, on the south coast of Grenada, Pierre de Saint Vincent, the skipper of Piment Rouge, really put on a show. It was quite an operation as the engine had to be tilted twice in order to get into the engine bay.
