The bigger question is...did she survive without any bug or animal infestations?? In this episode we climb aboard for the first time after 7 months away after visiting family and having an adventure on the West coast. We peak our heads inside and realize that all of our hard work was worth it! We do encounter a family of small lizards, lots of algae and some man eating wasps though...nothing that a bit of elbow grease won't fix! After getting our bearings, we quickly get into boat projects, one of which has been a long time coming. Parker rips out the old diesel exhaust system that is riddled with pin holes and filled our lockers with carbon soot. Matt freedives down to set our anchor by hand, after an overnight storm caused it to drag. When the weather improves, the crew sails to The Abaco Islands in The North Bahamas for some exploration, and snorkeling. This proves to be the most epic sail so far, great conditions help the boat perform to her fullest potential. Once anchored, Matt & Lisa quickly jump on the dinghy to go explore the local vibrant coral reef. Within a few minutes Lisa spotted her first Shark. It was very exciting, but after a while, the crew decided to go back to the boat for lunch. After lunch and a nap, the crew heads to some cliffs they spotted on the way to the first dive site. Das erste Dachsegment wird hergestellt. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei generalüberholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Hier zur Playlist dieser für ein Segelboot außergewöhnlichen Reise quer durchs Mittelmeer und über die europäischen Binnenwasserstraßen. Am vierten September kamen wir in Wien an, 980 Seemeilen und 2120 km über die europäischen Wasserstraßen lagen hinter uns. Seitdem liegt Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hat bereits begonnen. The wind has been a little dissapointing today so it's a lazy, uneventful reach back up the lake. We even have to get the outboard in at one stage to help us along but once we get home, a rainy weather front comes in bringing a little bit of wind. So, we decide to do a couple of circuits, a gybe or 2, before anchoring by our mooring for lunch. The wind has been pretty rubbish the past few weeks. Not only has it been quite low, but it's predominantly been coming from the North this season for some reason, making it choppy and difficult to sail in. Segeln Ostsee. Eigentlich war Nyborg unser Ziel. Aber es zog uns doch ein wenig weiter. Und so segelten wir bis Kerteminde und ankerten vor der Stadt. Sailing in Greece. After a peaceful night at anchor we raise the sails to begin our sailing passage east towards the Corinth Canal. As we unfurl our headsail something drops and flies away - a bat!! We sail along the Gulf of Patras heading towards the Rion Bridge hoping to pass under with our sails up and actually sail under the bridge.
