After sailing from Virginia we spend quite a bit of time in Antigua. We love this island. Great people. Great hiking. It is a beautiful place. As the end point for the Salty Dawg rally there were lots of social activities organized here for weeks after our arrival which just added to the fun. #antigua #SailingAntigua #CruisingAntigua

While we were in Tobago we felt like we were running from impending waves and wind that the weather sites kept sending out yellow weather warnings about. We decided with the northerly swell and wind that was coming through and the prediction of 3m breaking waves on the north facing shorelines of Tobago - we would head over to the windward side. Because of the highly unusual weather pattern there wasn’t much information that we could find on any of the bays on the windward side. Luckily S/Y Puff was sitting in the same predicament as us and we decided to sit down together and discuss options. We decided to move around to Store Bay where a local charter company said we would be more protected but would need to anchor out in 20m of water. We anchored in 8m of water and decided to spend the night and figure out if it would provide the protection we needed. Store Bay did not! There was a lot of bouncing and rocking through the night so we pulled up the anchor and headed around to Barbados Bay - a beautiful, quiet and completely flat little bay. We hadn’t experienced such beautiful conditions since arriving in Tobago. There was a little fishing house to our one side that happily helped with watching our dingy and offering us fresh water to fill the yacht. We spent 2 nights here and then decided to make our way up the windward coastline with the plan to cross to Carriacou when the weather allowed. We moved up to Kings Bay. A beautiful still bay with no swell at all. The water looked like a mirror and we all battled to sleep with how quiet and still the yacht was! It was very unusual for us all 😂 we were the only ones in the huge beautiful bay. It was a sad goodbye to Trinidad and Tobago when we finally left their shorelines, we had made beautiful friends and met amazing people over our time there. While sailing away we were sent off with the most beautiful pod of dolphins escorting us out of the Trinidad and Tobago waters 💙

This week we explored the Virgin Islands National Park (St. John) while Holly’s parents were aboard! We snorkeled Henley Cay, Lovango Cay, Waterlemon Cay, and Maho Bay. There was healthy coral and diverse marine life- we even got to see a small nurse shark and a turtle! We spent a day enjoying the Lovango Resort + Beach Club, and hiking around the island. The Royal Malta Yacht Club welcomed a sizeable fleet to its yearly Boxing Day Fun Race in aid of L-Istrina, the annual fund raising marathon hosted by the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. Setting of the fleet just outside the Royal Malta Yacht Club was Mrs. Miriam Vella, wife of the President of Malta and by Mr John Huber , Chairperson of the Governors' Board for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. Whilst the weather was warm and sunny, the lack of wind meant that the fleet struggled to make its way out of Marsamxett Harbour onto the fairway buoy but nonetheless spirits were high as the brightly decorated boats slowly made their way out of the harbour. The annual Best Dressed Boat and Best Dressed Sailor is a highly competitive affair and due to the efforts made by participants the Club decided to award a joint prize for the two categories. Winners of the Best Dressed Boat when to Luis Azzopardi and Sara Baldwin’s Corona and to Ferdinand Grech’s KonTiki. The Best Dressed Sailor prize went to the two youngest sailors of the fleet – eight week old Eve Ripard, sailing on Calypso and 9 month old Tommy Agius Delicata sailing Vivace. Oscar Bielik won the Best Dressed Sailor from the RMYC Sailing School fleet. A total of Eur 3440, which included a very generous donation from Club Member Dr Simon Xuereb was presented to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

After turning right at the outward turning mark, we caught up with the mini maxi fleet as they ran down the coast.

After the seeming chaos and close calls that unfolded amongst the frontrunners as they worked their way out of Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day, the departure of the remainder of the fleet seemed quite orderly and a deal less stressful. The Bow Caddy Media team in the air and on the water - stationed at the inner harbour turning mark – capturing the action amongst a part of the fleet that doesn’t get so much attention. We look back on that classic Boxing Day start – sun, breeze and action.

We had to leave our anchorage in the middle of the night because of the katabatic wind howling down really strong from the surrounding mountains making it impossible to sleep! Nothing else to do then to pick up the anchor and leave in the middle of the night! It wasn't too difficult since we are over the Arctic Circle and have midnight sun. We motored against the current to the beautiful village of Reine further north in Lofoten. Tahanea in the Tuamotus is an incredible atoll spanning 30 miles long and 9 miles wide. There are over 70 Motus (small islands) on the perimeter of the atoll not all are accessible by yacht though. It is simply beautiful above and below the water with very little trace of human activity. There are 3 endemic bird species that live here - Atoll Fruit Dove, Tuamotu Sandpiper and the Tuamotu Warbler. Take care when sailing here as there are a lot of bommies (coral heads) which do not appear on some charts. We anchored in the SE corner of the atoll where there is good holding once you have located a decent sized sandy patch. Don't forget to float your anchor chain as the wind direction is likely to change. The children from the 3 yacht have planned a survivor night on one of the motus. This was an incredible experience for all of them and they continued to do this throughout the Tuamotus. What a life. Viel Spaß Nach einer schweren Krebserkrankung starte ich einen Neuanfang. Ich möchte meinem Leben eine neue Richtung geben und steige aus. Ich nehme mir eine unbefristete Auszeit unter Segeln. Das zweite Dachsegment wird hergestellt. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei generalüberholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Defesa do princípio maior da nossa Constituição Federal que é o Direito à Liberdade. Inclusive ao direito à vida, pois eu poderia ter morrido na cadeia. O advogado representante do Sindicato Rural de Nova Crixás, é famoso e experiente. Portanto, sabia que o assunto sobre o Imposto Territorial Rural (ITR), era, e ainda é, de competência federal. Mas ele sabia, também, que suas alegações não constituíam em crime perante a Receita Federal e, mesmo que fossem, a eventual demora para uma ação da Receita Federal ou da própria Polícia Federal, impedi-lo-ia de atingir o fim proposto que era interromper a fiscalização do imposto. As normas referentes ao ITR são claras. Qualquer problema criado pelo município, o contribuinte pode recorrer à Receita Federal. Ignorou-as, pois seria muito mais fácil recorrer à Justiça estadual onde dispunha de muita influência e poder. Assim, mesmo sendo inconstitucional, a justiça estadual acatou todas suas alegações, ipsis litteris, inclusive a absurda tese de prisão preventiva e o governo do Estado de Goiás cedeu seu poderio policial para efetuar a sensacional prisão de dois velhos pais de família. Quase todas as propriedades rurais do município de Nova Crixás caíram na malha fiscal por erro no preenchimento da declaração anual. No entanto, 80% delas eram improcedentes, ou seja, bastava o contribuinte comprovar a produtividade da fazenda e a multa era sumariamente baixada, sem necessidade de Laudo ou qualquer pedido formal. Entre as multas procedentes a maioria eram de baixo valor e o Laudo ficaria mais caro que a própria multa. Restando em torno de 20 produtores que a multa compensaria um laudo agronômico. Quando descobri que o Sindicato estava fazendo laudos para todos os produtores, independentemente da necessidade, e se negava a conversar a respeito do assunto, resolvi fazer uma carta para os produtores, recomendando-os buscar mais informação no município. O objetivo era que eles deixassem de gastar dinheiro com laudo. Essa carta foi a principal prova de corrupção e exaustivamente comentada no inquérito. Pergunto: Quem vai fazer corrupção manda carta para mais de 100 produtores? Acho que essas coisas são tratadas pessoalmente, nem por telefone. Pegaram um áudio que eu disse uma única vez, para uma insistente pessoa (armação) que fazia laudo, exceto para os municípios para os quais eu trabalhava. Como ficou constatado, não encontraram nenhuma prova que eu propus fazer laudo para algum produtor. Uma das alegações foi a de que o município estava impugnando seus laudos. Mas ele, como bom advogado, sabia que o município não tem competência para impugnar laudos. O que o município fazia, e tem que fazer, é apresentar suas alegações discordando do produtor, se for o caso. Entretanto, se o contribuinte não concordar com o município, o próprio município é obrigado a enviar o laudo para a Receita Federal. Outra alegação, para justificar a prisão preventiva, é a de que os fiscais poderiam interferir na Declaração anual do ITR que seria feita no final de outubro. Ora, todos sabem que o ITR é declaratório, ou seja, o fazendeiro avalia como quiser suas terras, e toda a Declaração é feita pela internet. Qual o risco de influência dos fiscais? Mas pelo menos reconheço que o referido advogado é poderoso. Além de ter alcançado seus objetivos, a prisão foi um sucesso na cidade. A metade da população parou para assistir o alvoroço policial e todas mídias do estado noticiaram. Amargurei 59 dias de cadeia e tive toda minha vida profissional detonada. Todas prefeituras para quais trabalhava rescindiram meu contrato, sem pagamento. Minha filha gastou quase toda sua poupança para contratar um bom advogado criminalista em Goiânia. Um professor de Direito da Universidade Federal que foi eficaz, conseguindo minha liberdade em poucos dias depois da sua contratação. Tenho uma pequena aposentadoria que me permite viver modestamente. Nunca tive um câncer ou outra doença grave. Mas comparo minha prisão à cura de um câncer. Passei a dar muito mais valor à vida. Hoje sou apaixonado no meu cão, nos meus filhos, netos, na minha casa, até nas flores. Quando decidi fazer esses vídeos não foi pensando em vingança, mesmo porque, os vídeos serão irrelevantes frente ao poderio dos acusadores. Mas, como inquérito foi extinto sem processo e, portanto, sem julgamento, sinto que ficou uma lacuna inexplicável entre a motivação da minha prisão e da minha soltura. As pessoas perguntam: por que fui preso e como fui solto? Outra motivação foi com relação a meus filhos. This is the first day of the Bomb cyclone off the coast of California. This boat hasn’t been in this kind of weather in many many years. Purchased on the Sacramento Delta, brought out of retirement to brave the seas North of Cape Mendocino. She’s holding steady not leaking much water. Showing her strength threw the storm safely tied to the dock along with all the other vessels.

The rudder is removed again for further work to extend it up to the tiller fitting. I also rethink the raw water manifold! This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. This Lagoon 450F Owners Version is a very well equipped and comfortable cruising catamaran. There are plenty of areas on this cat to unwind, like the forward cockpit, the big lounge area on the fore deck, and the aft cockpit with wraparound sofa and dining table. And let’s not forget of course the fly bridge helm station which gives you amazing visibility and views when you are out sailing. She is very well equipped with a main sail, Code 0 and a furling genoa which have all been renewed in 2018. Furthermore, a Lazy Bag, electric winches, two 54hp Yanmar diesels, two 2-blade Flexofold props, an 11kW generator, solar panels, a dinghy with a 20hp outboard engine and a life raft for 8 persons. Further to that, a water maker, Davits, and a complete navigation package including radar, Navtex and AIS. The interior of this Lagoon 450F is light and airy thanks to the large vertical windows. She is fitted out with all comforts, like; reverse cycle air-conditioning throughout, washing machine, dishwasher, and electric toilets. The U-shaped galley on port side features a sliding window which opens up to connect to the aft cockpit. Forward is the big navigation station with full electronics and second steering station. And also forward you’ll find the L-shaped sofa with dining table. The owners’ stateroom spans the complete starboard hull and features a wide berth aft, a desk, a small sofa, and a large ensuite bathroom with separate shower. The port hull has two guest comfortable guest cabins both with ensuite head compartment with separate shower. We also visit the historic Bustard Head Lighthouse cloaked in tragic mystery. Established in 1868, Bustard Head was Queensland’s first coastal lighthouse but has become infamous for the gruesome fate of many of its early lighthouse keepers. Not many people lived at the light but a disproportionate died including, by a triple drowning, murder, suicide, extraordinary health problems and throw in an unsolved abduction for good measure. In the video we tell the story of the people and place, take you up into the lighthouse and fantastic, volunteer run museum.
