Kids spend the night on an uninhabited island alone!
Tahanea in the Tuamotus is an incredible atoll spanning 30 miles long and 9 miles wide. There are over 70 Motus (small islands) on the perimeter of the atoll not all are accessible by yacht though. It is simply beautiful above and below the water with very little trace of human activity. There are 3 endemic bird species that live here - Atoll Fruit Dove, Tuamotu Sandpiper and the Tuamotu Warbler. Take care when sailing here as there are a lot of bommies (coral heads) which do not appear on some charts. We anchored in the SE corner of the atoll where there is good holding once you have located a decent sized sandy patch. Don't forget to float your anchor chain as the wind direction is likely to change. The children from the 3 yacht have planned a survivor night on one of the motus. This was an incredible experience for all of them and they continued to do this throughout the Tuamotus. What a life. I hope you enjoy the video which captures the cruising life in these remote places.
