Pilar Lamadrid (ESP) and Sam Sills (GBR) managed on to their respective leads at the top of the general classification after a very demanding day on the waters of the Canary Island of Lanzarote. It was a great day too for the young Israeli Sharon Kantor and the Olympic champion Kiran Badloe who won today's major test, a marathon one-hour race from Lanzarote to the island of Lobos and back.

Welcome to Sailing Frida af Wisby this is a little introduction video to our channel and a summary of our sailing so far. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

Pata Negra win IRC One! 🏆 Father and son owners, Andrew and Sam Hall were racing Lombard 46 Pata Negra (GBR) for the second time in the RORC Transatlantic Race. Pata Negra finished the race on Sunday 22nd January in an elapsed time of 13 days 23 hours 45 mins 13 secs. Pata Negra was greeted dockside by the RORC Finish team, and with cold beers from Port Louis Marina. In 2022, Pata Negra was fourth in class and took over 15 days. This year, Pata Negra has won IRC One and completed the race in just under 14 days. Andrew Hall is the oldest competitor in this year’s race and Sam one of the youngest skippers. “We saw a fishing boat about 50 miles off Barbados and they came and waved to us. It’s always exciting when you see another human being after 3,000 miles of just seeing the crew on Pata Negra,” commented Andrew Hall. “I think that Sam and I are very lucky that we both like to do the same thing. I don’t know how many years I have got left, but we would like to be back next year. We are learning more and more about the boat; we are getting her going quicker and coming up with new ideas. Next for Pata Negra will be the RORC Caribbean 600 and then the boat will be on charter for other Caribbean regattas. Pata Negra will then return to the UK, take part in a few RORC races and then the Rolex Fastnet Race this summer, and we are looking forward to that.” #rorctransatlanticrace #IRCRating

The 2022 National Sailing Championships were postponed to the weekend of the 21-22nd January 2023 due to the bad weather on the day. The abysmal conditions that competitors in the MSF National Sailing Championships were met with certainly did not dampen their competitive drive, nor did it remove smiles as sailors waiting to launch their boats. Loads of things to get sorted on Lulu this week, so on a day with no wind and me not feeling quite 100%, I decide to take advantage of the calm weather and get all the niggles shaken out of the boat. I also tear my Jib which is not great news, but she patches up fine and to be honest on closer inspection, it's probably at the end of it's life now.
