Since we spent the month at the marina in Annapolis, we did not have any good sailing footage. But we did have friends on board who decided to have a STEAK-OFF!!! Alfredo and Tony each got a ribeye, a NY strip, and a piece of skirt steak to season, marinate, and cook however they liked. (The rest of us made the side dishes.) Competition was fierce as the competitors resorted to sabotage! In the end, we had a great time and lots of amazing food for dinner that night. Then we went to the Annapolis Sailboat Show where we were invited to participate in the YouTube Sailing Channel Booth, which was awesome. Spending time with other sailing YouTubers was fun and educational, to say the least. But the best part of being there was getting to meet our fans. We can't thank you enough for watching our videos. We timed our trip to Antigua and Lake Atitlan with the Sumpango Kite Festival where once a year, this sleepy little town of only 38,000 residents swells to over 100,000, all there to experience the festival of larger-than-life kites. Mixing solemn traditions with modern variations, the annual observance of All Saints Day on Nov. 1 features colorful, hand-made kites that flutter over open fields and cemeteries in a spectacular mashup of pre- and post-Hispanic beliefs. The ancient rite can be traced to indigenous cultures that considered it disrespectful to mourn the dead, keeping their ancestors alive in both memory and spirit. They say that Souls of the deceased can visit the living once a year for 24 hours and the kites act as a beacon to help the spirits locate their loved ones. These delicate works of art — some of which reach up to (65 feet) in height— are constructed out of all natural products like bamboo, tissue paper, glue, and string and feature elaborate designs that differ from year to year. The largest kites remain on the ground to form an impressive backdrop as the festivals unfold with music, traditional foods, and beverages. In a country rich with unique and ancient traditions, the annual Festival of the Giant Kites stands out as one of the most spectacular. The sensation of the raw power generated by the IMOCA foiling flyers has perhaps been no better illustrated than by a sequence of video from Paul Meilhat’s Biotherm, with OBR Anna Beaugé’s camera on deck capturing the forward speed of the boat and the river of white water powering off the stern. On that boat, from the inside, we can feel and hear the water cascading over the coach roof, as the new Guillaume Verdier design forces her way through and over wave trains, with her foils, keels and rudder humming. The video includes shots of Anthony Marchand climbing the starboard outrigger – they bring home the vulnerability of a sailor on deck in a vast wilderness of ocean – and then concludes with images of an albatross wheeling over the golden waves at sunset.

Lezioni di Vela - Il Gennaker - Armo e Verifiche - Episodio 13 Armare il gennaker in crociera è il tema del nuovo video-episodio di Scuola di VELA, in cui scopriamo come effettuare una manovra perfetta in modo semplice, senza paura di fare casino. Come armare il Gennaker in crociera Il Gennaker è una vela fondamentale in certe condizioni, che permette al crocerista di navigare in andature portanti. Una manovra corretta avviene principalmente se prima di un’issata di gennaker tutto è stato preparato a dovere. Il primo passo da non dimenticare è come si ripiega il gennaker; è importante che quando aprite il sacco della vela vi ritroviate, nell’ordine dall’alto: Il punto di mura, la penna. il punto di scotta. La mura infatti dovrà essere sempre la prima a uscire. Per armare il gennaker, il consiglio è quello di agganciare subito la tack-line e controllare che sia libera, cioè che non passi sotto il pulpito di prua, dal lato sbagliato dello strallo etc. Per armare le scotte, ricordatevi di farle passare esternamente a ogni manovra fissa e corrente. Mettetevi a prua e verificate, tirandole, che siano sopra ogni cima e fuori dalle sartie/draglie. A questo punto fissatele al punto di scotta della vela. Qui avete due scelte: Strambata interna (tra gennaker e strallo) fate passare la scotta all’interno della tack-line e della drizza. Strambata esterna (la vela stramba a bandiera) fatela passare sopra la tack-line ed esterna alla drizza. Per ultimo armate la drizza, qui in base a tante variabili potete decidere di tenervi qualche metro d'imbando, facendola passare a poppavia delle crocette. Arrivée à Anse Pitons, prix de la bouée, droit de mouillage dans le parc, bains de boue & cascades. Initialement, nous voulions faire un stop à Soufrière, mais les avis de prudence de la gendarmerie en Martinique, nos sites internet de référence en matière de sécurité et différents bateaux copains nous ont fait préférer Anse Pitons ou les 2 Pitons. Vraiment nous n'avons pas regretté. Le site est magnifique. Nous avons pris un taxi boat pour Soufrière afin de visiter : - Sulphur Springs Park et ses bains de boue - et pour se baigner à Piton waterfall. Dans cette vidéo je donne le prix de la bouée de mouillage et le montant de la taxe pour mouiller dans la réserve. Everybody knows Greece for its endless summer, warms days and inviting seas. But Greece has so much to offer during the 'off' season as well. This year the weather has been extremely volatile: 18-20 degrees in January and all of a sudden, we're snowed in! In Denmark snow days like these are a nuisance, while in Greece it comes with an extreme weather warning (the infrastructure is simply not equipped for it, as it is so rare) and the Greek authorities strongly advised people to stay in the safety of their home and limit any unnecessary transportation should be limited or restricted. Since our home, didn't provide us with the necessary safety/comforts (i.e. the internet and electricity was down), we grasped the opportunity for a little adventure. So glad we did, leaving our comfort zone and escaping in to the temporary wild and snowy conditions! Das Dach wird endgültig zusammengefügt und das alte Deckshaus abmontiert Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei generalüberholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Siamo sempre in Italia mentre Y2K ci aspetta nella buca anti-ciclone a Vuda Marina, nell'isola di Viti Levu. In questo episodio visitiamo una delle ultime isole settentrionali delle Mamanuca e navighiamo verso le Yasawa. Mamanuca e Yasawa sono due arcipelaghi di isolette situati a Ovest di Viti Levu e che si estendono da Nord Est a Sud Ovest. In compagnia dei cari amici di ZoomaX prosegue la nostra navigazione nelle acque di queste splendide isole. Ecoci a Navadra (Mamanuca) costituita in realtà da due isolotti, forma un ancoraggio parecchio rollante, ma davvero spettacolare. Gli squali di barriera pinna nera la fanno da padrone. Ci spostiamo quindi a Waya, prima delle isole Yasawa, e ancoriamo nella bellissima baia dove è situato l'Octupus Resort, davvero "yacht friendly". Anche qui si rolla, ma il paesaggio à notevole. Approdiamo infine a Naviti: qui ancoriamo per una notte davanti al Korovou Eco Resort, gestito interamente da una famiglia fijiana e dopo la cerimonia del sevusevu abbiamo libero accesso a tutta la struttura e possiamo fare incetta di frutta locale direttamente dagli alberi. In an interim relief, the apex court said Kantara movie producers won't have to remove the Varaha Roopam song from the movie. In a big relief for Kantara film producer Vijay Kirgandur and actor Rishab Shetty, the court said police can question the duo but cannot arrest them in a case related to alleged copyright infringement. Pronouncing the order, the apex court today stayed the condition to remove the song from the movie. Though the petition was not listed today CJI agreed to take it up after an urgent mention was made before him. CJI DY Chandrachud observed that the Kerala HC felt strongly that they (filmmakers) had plagiarised the song, but that does not mean such conditions can be imposed. Passing the order, the court said, "Pending further orders condition 12(1) will stand modified -- petitioner shall appear before the investigating officer on 12 and 13 February 2023. In the event that the petitioner is arrested, he shall be released on bail in terms of the order passed by the HC. There shall be a stay on the operation of condition 5 (to remove the song)." (sic) Popular Kerala music band, Thaikudam Bridge had accused Kantara makers of plagiarism and sought legal action against them. The band accused that Kantara song Varaha Roopam was copied from their song, Navarasam. A Kerala court then ordered the Kantara makers not to play Varaha Roopam without the permission of Thaikkudam Bridge. After the musical band sought legal action against the filmmakers, the court asked the makers to stop playing the song in t Shocking! 16 years after Sister Abhaya's murder, CBI conducted a virginity test By Nalini Sharma: In a landmark judgment for women's rights, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday held that no woman, even an accused in a murder case, should be made to go through the 'sexist' and 'abhorrent' practice of virginity testing. Stating that virginity tests violate the bodily integrity and the psychological integrity of a woman, the Delhi High Court bench of Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma allowed the petition filed by Sister Sephy, an accused in the 1992 Sister Abhaya murder case in Kerala. In March, 1992, Sister Abhaya was found dead in a well filled with water in the St Pius X Convent in Kottayam, Kerala. The initial police investigation floated a theory of suicide linked with psychological illness, but due to pressure from the local community, the investigation was transferred to the CBI in 1993. The first CBI team which probed the case did not come up with any conclusion on the cause of death. A second CBI team was then brought in, which said it was murder, but there was a lack of evidence to nab the culprits. The court refused to accept this report and asked for the investigation to continue. In 2005, the CBI filed another closure report before the court, which, too, was rejected. By 2008, the CBI had approached the court to close the case four times, when the High Court handed over the investigation to the state unit of the CBI The new CRIT

The winds of change! What next for our sailing adventures?
