Magnus begins the task of fixing the holes in the bowsprit with epoxy. We go ashore in search of the many petroglyphs which are in this area. Magnus splices a new anchor rode to replace the 500 feet of chain which is now at the bottom of the ocean, with the new anchor! We leave Dolphin island and make our way down Flying Foam Passage to Dampier to organise a new chain. The weather is horrible and we manage to sneak out of Dampier and head to East Lewis Island in the hope of a calmer anchorage. We wait for the new chain to arrive. Magnus pulls out the windlass controller because it is not working. The wires were ripped out when the windlass broke of the deck. We head ashore for a well earned swim, because we can. Now. But then I had to get through this monumental maze of fishing nets until I hit a dead end. This was bad. Very bad. With forceful wind and smashing waves, I managed to cut my boat free from the net. But then the fishermen chased me down and we collided but with luck and seamanship, we just grazed each other. Let's face it there are no shortage of things to spend your money on with a sailboat! But there aren't many more rewarding things to splash out on than a new suit of sails. We held it off too long with our Yankee and it actually fell apart on us at the end of last season! That was partly because as a cruiser you're rarely in one place long enough to get to know and trust a sail loft to know they are going to deliver what you want. We ended up restoring our refrigerator to its former glory. New glides made all of the difference. Karen got a little too excited. Our VIP head countertop was really dated. We sailed from Miami across the Gulfstream to Bimini in the Bahamas in our new Neel 43 Trimaran to get a little beach time. Then we motored across the Grand Bahama Bank in very calm conditions, the water was so pretty and blue. It was 80 miles over the Bullocks Harbour in the Berry Islands.
