In this special episode, we share our first short-handed med mooring experience with Anchor. Mediterranean mooring, also known as med mooring or stern to mooring is a common practice in Mediterranean countries. Often skippers shy away from the maneuver due to its complexity. This is how we did it in Sami town in Greece. We are sailing in the Mediterranean and living on our sailboat since 2021. We embark on a passage from Croatia to Turkey. We plan to use the entire 2022 sailing season for this 1100 journey to explore 4 Mediterranean countries. Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, and Turkey. From Adriatic, through the Ionian to the Aegean. We share some beautiful anchorages, marinas, unspoiled islands, great sites, and expenses along the way. We recently quit our high-tech jobs in California, bought a sailboat, and moved to the Mediterranean. We are just starting our adventure of sailing around the world and experiencing life on a sailboat. In this sailing vlog 2022, we will share our experiences as a sailing couple on YouTube who spends our first year sailing extensively throughout the Mediterranean coast. We will document our experiences, travel discoveries, and costs throughout our sailing journey. Croatia, Greece and Turkey offer some of the best sailings in the Mediterranean and Europe. Beneteau 49 was built in Marion, South Carolina, USA. 1st owner sailed her from Charleston, USA, to the Caribbean (US virgin islands). In between seasons, it was kept on dry (from late April until November); the 2nd owner bought it at the beginning of 2021, updated it and crossed the Atlantic Ocean with the ARC in May. In this phase of refitting our Pacific Seacraft Orion 27, I replace outdated AC & DC panels with new Blue Seas 8027 (AC) and 8068 (DC) panels and install a Blue Seas 12v accessory panel in the V berth. I also install a galvanic isolator, replace old wiring with new Ancor wire, install 12V and surface mount USB sockets, new bilge pump and bilge pump controls, and, replace the overhead at the navigation station.

At the season got started, we were still doing a lot of boat projects. These never seemed to end, and I didn’t even make videos about some of them as it seemed like we were looking like a “project boat”. But then we set off from Antigua to Dutch Sint Maarten, known locally by its airport code SXM. We had sour standing rigging replaced, installed a new stove, got a new AB Ribs dinghy, and much more. Not a day felt relaxed. Then we picked up Alan and Wyatt when the Christmas airline debacle occurred. Over a thousand flights were cancelled as a northeast snowstorm blanketed much of the US. Viewers might remember Alan as a frequent crew member, and it was or honor to be able to shuttle them over to the British Virgin Islands, where they had a bareboat charter awaiting. Anyway, once they took over the captain and crew roles on their Dufour monohull, we were left to buddy boat with them for over a week. Rigging is one of those things that everyones knows is super important but most of us struggle to be on top of. It's also an easy subject to just forget about and hope for the best. Obviously that is not a good way to go! When you break things down most aspects are just common sense and it's easily within the grasp of most people to get on top of their rigging and keep things safe. This is the first of a two part series on rigging following a full re-rig of Fair Isle a cutter rigged Hans Christian 48T. We will take you through checking over the whole rig, changing all the standing rigging, fitting STA-LOK compression fittings and fitting a new Furlex unit from Selden. In order to get the best advice and techniques to do the work we are filming with Jade Edwards-Leaney from The Boat Shed Wales. He was the rigger for Ian Herbert-Jones's boat 'Puffin' in the Golden Globe Race as well as an emergency re-rigging of Abilash Tomy's boat when it was damaged on the way to the start line. So there's no better rigger to get tips of the trade from.
