** NOW SOLD ** Halcyon Daze is a Catalina 320 that was launched new in 2006. The Catalina 320 is simply one of the world's most successful production yachts. These yachts were built with comfort, strength and easy handling in mind. Halcyon Daze is the best 320 we have seen at YOTI - ever. She is not only one of the last 320’s to be imported into Australia but has been very well cared for and sensibly updated. Standing rigging was replaced in 2017. The mainsail and genoa were new in just 2021. The Raymarine navigation instruments were new in 2021 along with a new VHF plus there is a Raymarine auto-pilot. The Force 10 stove and oven was new in 2019 and a new fridge compressor was installed in 2022. Below decks the interior is super impressive with the roomy and practical galley with very deep fridge and double stainless sinks, a practical navigation station, large saloon with drop down table converting to another double berth, fully enclosed head with shower, a comfortable V berth and of course the signature Catalina aft double cabin. Both mattresses are inner spring. The Ultra Leather upholstery is in great condition. The cockpit is protected by a dodger and bimini plus there is an infill with side panels. Solar panels are installed on the bimini. Hatches, winches and even the wash boards are protected by covers. Halcyon Daze is powered by a Yanmar shaft drive engine with around 1430 hours. This is a rare, late model, very well-kept example of the Catalina 320.

After 3,5 months it is time to get out of the harbor. The winter is over and we don’t need our heater anymore. You get used to a harbor very soon. Nice long hot showers. Washing machine, dryer, shopping, neighbors. Easy to bring stuff on board. Before we leave we do the things what is just easier to do in the harbor and bring our home back into sail-mode . We continue on our passage to Mermaid Reef in the Rowley Shoals. On arrival, Border Force approaches us, which is quite an intimidating experience. We slowly make our way into the pass at Mermaid Reef, and the weather turns… doesn’t it always! We settle in and go below for a well-earned rest. When we poke our heads back up we have new neighbours. Magnus decides to make paneer for dinner. It’s too windy to snorkel, so we head over to the cay in Peanut to check it out. It’s a long way, and the water is shallow, with bommies everywhere. We finally get there and explore the sand cay. We only have about an hour on the cay before the tide comes in and puts it all underwater. It’s an amazing place, and we enjoy checking it out. Magnus decides to make paneer for dinner. Our trip south continues with some gorgeous conditions, even if it was a bit chilly we were absolutely loving the winter in the Sea of Cortez compared to our trip up which was mostly motoring through a windless swimming pool and sweating A LOT 😂 . Now we had awesome wind and Delos was eating up the miles like a machine, it felt SO AMAZING! Our introduction back into cruiser life after our long break honestly couldn't have been better. We found some relaxing hot springs, did some hiking, a few repairs, and lots of wonderful moments together as a family. Sierra has changed so much in the 4 months since we were last cruising, and it's such a joy to see how much more independent, curious, and in awe of the world she has become. This is it! These are the conditions we sought to test us. We encounter FORCE 10 48+ knot wind gusts and heavy seas as we sail around Cape Horn to starboard. This is scary sailing, on the edge, and it is not for the faint of heart. You may get seasick. We went looking for these conditions as we felt that choosing a calm weather window to round Cape Horn would be, well, disappointing, not to you, but to us. It would not be the challenge we were looking for. We wanted to summit the Mt. Everest. Somehow, climbing that mountain on a sunny warm day with no wind and waves felt like selling ourselves short. We wanted huge waves. We wanted gale force winds. We wanted freezing cold temps. Some may say seeking out these conditions is unsafe, or risky. Those people are not 100% wrong, but we say those people are living in fear. Don't be afraid! To experience true freedom is to live life without fear. That being said, do not go sailing in these conditions without being well prepared and able to self rescue, do not put your life, your sailboat, and the lives of sea rescue personnel are at risk. We are both very experienced sailors and have sailed countless miles in harsh conditions while racing, solo sailing, and doublehanded sailing to prepare for this type of sailing. We welcomed back the Oyster World Rally 2022-2023 fleet from their 16-month circumnavigation, and all Oyster owners were invited to attend a very special dinner to celebrate 50 years of Oyster Yachts. The Regatta, now in its 45th edition, saw a combination of course racing and pursuit racing, and took the fleet up the east coast of the island for a night at a secluded anchorage. Highlights of what happened globally in the sport of sailing in the last 7 days. After being dismasted, the Holcim-PRB team came up with a plan to sail the boat to Rio, under jury rig, where they hoped to fit a spare mast and rejoin the race. The logistics and timings behind this operation were complicated. It seems the latest plan is not to do Leg 4 to Newport and get a new mast delivered to there, so that they can do the double point, Leg 5, from Newport across the Atlantic. This way they could possibly still lead the race on points. This is your weekly Sailing global highlights show, the World on Water, May 05, 2023. In the Caribbean the Sailing action is on the Antigua Sailing Week. The 54th edition of Antigua Sailing Week, set off with the spectacular curtain raiser, the Peters & May, Round Antigua Race. Five days of red-hot racing followed for Antigua Sailing Week, with legendary shoreside celebrations and daily prize givings. Antigua Sailing Week is a melting pot of nations; boats from 18 countries are competing at the 54th edition. “This Alpen Cup in Torbole is a great event. This year they had 17 boats from 10 countries worldwide including Australia and The Bahamas.” It was a record entry in the history of the event. Aspire has won the 5.5 Metre Alpen Cup at Circolo Vela Torbole after two more races were held last Saturday in light winds. Artemis did just enough to hang onto second overall while Shaolin moved up to third. British Sailing coach, Jon Emmett talks to Australian Tokyo Olympian, Mara Stransky, who finished second in the Medal Race to improve her position from seventh to fifth overall in the 2023 Hyeres Regatta in France. Charleston Race Week emerged from humble beginnings as a small, local championship event, to become the largest keelboat regatta in the Western Hemisphere, that draws many of sailing’s elite from around North America and the world. This iconic annual event, is held each April in one of the world’s most desirable travel destinations, Charleston, South Carolina, and has returned this year for its 26th edition. We have two reports. Port Stephens is north of Sydney in Australia, and it sits on a beautiful bay, that is twice the size of Sydney Harbour. The Sail Port Stephens regatta saw crews on the 108 boats enjoy flawless conditions, perfectly aligned to the scenic offshore courses, set by Principal Race Officer Denis Thompson. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli continued their relentless drive for perfection last Thursday on their fourth straight session this week in near-perfect conditions out on the Bay of Cagliari, and were joined on their imaginary racecourse by competition in the form of 1800 horsepower hanging off the back of their Chase Boat, to give the team some pressure or ‘interference’ as Francesco Bruni called it later.
