Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Admittedly, I thought we were cutting out the large windows along the sides of the hull, and I was SUPER excited about it, but it turns out that we're just taking off the flanges the run around the interior of our cabin sides. They were originally added at the factory to protect the sill during travel and the build, but now we're ready for them to come off. This is so we'll be able to blend the fairing from our tape lines up, and get the entire surface ready for primer. But once they start to come off, MAN does it make a huge difference to our view. The space feels like it's opened up by 20%!! We also hop on our friend Francis' charter boat, Pal-o-mine, to partake in Kentmorr's yearly Blessing of the Fleet. A local pastor comes out to give each captain and crew a blessing for a bountiful season on the water, and then we pass under a spray of water put out by the local fire boats. Not much else to say except things are rapidly coming along now and there's going to be so many exciting changes coming over the next few months! We hope you enjoy!!

We started the week off by going to church with our awesome friends. We've made so many memories together along the way. After spending the evening and having a movie night we had to say goodbye to them the next day. They travelled further north and we had to travel south. After arriving at the marina in the south we finally got our new and improved sails back on the boat plus we were able to get a ton of work done, including new solar panels. After having a relaxed evening on the beach with our friends over there we decided to go scuba diving the next day. It was AMAZING! 😍 The shallow blue water with beautiful corals and fish was perfect! We had so much fun. The next day we said goodbye to our wonderful French friends and started sailing to St Lucia. We couldn't spend much time there as we had to go further down, but it was a beautiful island! It's so sad to hear that there is a risky side when travelling to these areas. So please be safe out there! Few hours of sailing and a lot of fishing later we finally arrived at St Vincent and the Grenadines. To the south of the island there's a small rock called Young Island. We pulled in from the sound so right after arriving we decided to climb that rock and see the view. St Vincent is a super pretty island. We can't wait to explore it!! Thank you for watching. Bocas Del Toro is a safe and easy choice for clearing into Panama, but if you are heading East it presents a very complicated sailing angle with uncooperative winds and sea state. We planned on staying only 2 weeks, but it took 5 for a weather window to present itself. While in Bocas, we took advantage of the dozens of grocery stores and provisioned the boat for the San Blas Islands. We also enjoyed riding our bikes, watching the surfers, and trying to find new places to snorkel. After a week, we were ready to break out of the South anchorage as the launchas fly through at ghastly speeds, creating wakes, noise and danger. They have hit boats and each other. We headed to Starfish Beach in the North and after dropping anchor, received a text, from one of the college seniors that we met at dinner the night before, that they were on Starfish Beach. We invited them out to the boat and 12 of them boarded and spent a couple of hours with us! We celebrated one of the girls' birthdays with brownies and popcorn and then took them back to shore. It was a great afternoon. After exploring Starfish Beach and the area the next day, we determined that this is a destination made up by tour operators to make money. There is nothing all that interesting about Starfish and the surrounding area. Yes, there is a small patch of protected white sand and blue water, but that's about it. It's a sold destination. On May 21, 2023, I will turn 80. I plan to do a celebratory cruise in my sailboat “Carlita” around the whole of the Pamlico Sound. A distance of 500 nautical miles. It has been just over 10 years since I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I never expected to make it to 80, let alone still have the desire or feel fit enough to attempt this cruise. Angesagt waren 12 kn und in Böen bis zu 16 kn…hört sich erst einmal ok an…es war dann aber so böig, dass ich von kontrolliertem Segeln auf einem Rumpf mit dem Grabner Happy Cat ziemlich weit entfernt war…🤷‍♂️…auch unkontrolliert hat es Spaß gemacht und ist vermutlich auch spannender…😉😂
