231: THIRTEEN COLLEGE GIRLS CRASH BLOWN AWAY!

Bocas Del Toro is a safe and easy choice for clearing into Panama, but if you are heading East it presents a very complicated sailing angle with uncooperative winds and sea state. We planned on staying only 2 weeks, but it took 5 for a weather window to present itself. While in Bocas, we took advantage of the dozens of grocery stores and provisioned the boat for the San Blas Islands. We also enjoyed riding our bikes, watching the surfers, and trying to find new places to snorkel. After a week, we were ready to break out of the South anchorage as the launchas fly through at ghastly speeds, creating wakes, noise and danger. They have hit boats and each other. We headed to Starfish Beach in the North and after dropping anchor, received a text, from one of the college seniors that we met at dinner the night before, that they were on Starfish Beach. We invited them out to the boat and 12 of them boarded and spent a couple of hours with us! We celebrated one of the girls' birthdays with brownies and popcorn and then took them back to shore. It was a great afternoon. After exploring Starfish Beach and the area the next day, we determined that this is a destination made up by tour operators to make money. There is nothing all that interesting about Starfish and the surrounding area. Yes, there is a small patch of protected white sand and blue water, but that's about it. It's a sold destination. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you.
