Last year we took 8 months to sail across Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy. This year we are sailing the rest of Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. The journey could take up to 9 months... The issue is these are all Schengen countries and currently you are only allowed to be in the Schengen area for 90 in every 180 days. We had begun to give up hope and thought this next section of our sail would be impossible until we realized it was possible to apply for individual long stay visas for any Schengen country, and if granted your time in that country would not count against your Schengen time and in fact would help you reach that 180 days to reset your clock again. For us this country needed to be France because it was in the middle of our trip and we intended to spend 3-6 months there. We thought applying for a visa would be a smooth process, we applied at an application centre in Canada and were told to expect our passports back 15 to 45 days. Instead we got our passports and visas back 3 months later. Heres our experiences!

Ambryn Island in Vanuatu is very special indeed. With its two smoking volcanoes and lush jungle covered hills it draws the attention of sailors from afar. But what makes it even more special, are its ancient tribal traditions still fully alive today. One of them is the Rom dance, practiced by the tribes from the North coast. The Rom dance is a rite of passage for young adults and it is shrouded in mystery and black magic practices. The young adult seeks the sponsorship of an elder that supplies him with a special mask and leads him in connecting with the spirits.

Finally, we are setting sail into the Pacific pointing our nose towards the Marquises in Polynesia. It's a 4000 nautical miles long sail we gonna do nonstop before dropping our anchor outside Fatu Hiva if everything goes as planned. This is a big moment when a long-lasting dream comes true and to realize when this is done and behind a dream changes to be a memory. An achievement of reaching a goal and realizing a dream. But before we hoist anchor we do some last-minute shopping, Gee loses her wallet in a taxi, and we struggle to get petrol but managed finally to get diesel. We started off by going to church in Grenada, which was about a mile away from the marina. It was lovely! We had a great time meeting the people. Then we decided to spend the evening at a relaxing place right by the marina. The kids had a great time in the pool and it was a wonderful way to end the day. Emerson loves climbing coconut trees whenever he sees one 😂. Our French friends have taught him well! The next day we decided to head out to see 'Chocolate museums'. It was so fascinating to see how the Grenadian chocolate was made, from the seed to the final product. We learned a lot from that! After that we decided to head to a waterfall called Annandale. It was located in a nice, relaxing forest and we had so much fun in the cold water. Emerson always end up catching different creatures and making friends with them. This time he caught a lizard. He's truly one with the nature! We spent the night having dinner with an awesome family. It was a great time. The next day we decided to go for a one last sail with my parents. After sailing to the south of Grenada it was time to say goodbye to them, so sad! So far Grenada has been awesome. We're loving it!! Après la longue traversée du Pacifique, nous prenons le temps de découvrir les meilleurs mouillages aux Marquise ,l'île d' Hiva Oa, terre de Brel et de Gauguin, l'île de Tahuata et enfin l'île de Fatu Hiva et sa célèbre baie des Vierges connue pour sa beauté. Nous rencontrons sur place des gens formidables et dégustons des fruits excellents, comme le pamplemousse géant. Bref, aux Marquises le temps s'immobilise, c'est un vrai éden.

Dernier grand week-end de mai, on décide de partir bivouaquer dans un petit coin de paradis. Au bout d'une heure de piste bien accidentée en 4x4, nous arrivons sur une petite plage déserte, où seuls quelques téméraires marcheurs foulent son sable après 5 heures de marche par le sentier des douaniers. Les vaches sauvages, les oiseaux et les papillons seront nos principales interactions. Première baignade pour Ombeline dans les eaux peu profondes et chaudes de la baie.
