To date only one female skipper has won the Rolex Fastnet Race - French solo sailor Catherine Chabaud (with a full crew) on board her IMOCA 60 Whirlpool-Europe 2 in 1999. 20 years later she is back with her family, racing onboard The Red Cigar/Formatives Network. Sailed by Jean-Marie Patier, the Red Cigar was launched in 1991 for Jean-Luc Van Den Heede, taking him to second place in the 1992-3 Vendee Globe, then going on to complete four more round the world races. It has changed hands several times but has come full circle by Jean-Marie Patier. After being dismasted during an attempted circumnavigation in 2003 Jean-Marie Patier decided to offer his services to Jean-Luc Van Den Heede to help his deliver the boat from Hobart to Les Sables d’Olonne. It took 77 days and kick started Jean-Marie’s sailing career. This is his first Fastnet Race. #RolexFastnetRace

This week has been great for me. I`ve been off for my first proper solo trip, sailing 86 nautical miles with a distance from shore of around 13 nautical miles. I also had a little incident with the engine (lost drive just as I left a mooring) but all ended well. This video is pretty much all sailing, so sit back and I hope that you will enjoy (as much as I did the sailing).

Well, we successfully escaped being locked in Northern waters... Now it was time to get back to work. Bagheera gets transformed into a sailboat and there were a few key repairs we needed to do before she could be sailed. But on top of that, there was still a long list of projects that would make our life onboard a lot more comfortable, or make Bagheera look a little bit less like a construction site, so we decided to tackle a bunch of them. We hadn't planned to stay this long in Catskill but the welcome from Riverview Marine Services was second to none. The owner, Mike, was extremely helpful and resourceful for the boat projects we had going, and kept finding ways to make our stay more affordable. When the sun cleared up we got visited by dolphins bow-riders, in the afternoon we reached a milestone when we rounded the most south-western corner of Europe. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders some 5 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. 2021 we sailed the Atlantic coast of Europe. Perfect breeze and balmy temperatures: Day three was all about the joy of sailing in the lovely Costa Smeralda. Who could ask for more? Day 3 saw the fleet sail a custom course that wound its way through some of the most spectacular scenery that the Costa Smeralda can offer. After 23nm of fun on the water, the fleet dropped anchor off the world-famous beach at Budelli to enjoy lunch and pose for a group photo. While part of the Rendezvous fleet headed back to port, Sorceress, Feelin’ Good and Ammonite couldn’t resist organising another race from Budelli to Porto Cervo only arriving back to port windswept and undeniably happy.

Les équipes de secours nous ont demandé s'il était possible de faire une exercice sur la Désirade pour la formation des nouveaux bénévoles secouristes. En remerciement nous avons eu le privilège de visiter la vedette et surtout d'avoir 30 minutes en navigation à son bord. Sailing so early in the year does mean feisty winds and less than favourable sailing conditions. Living aboard for 6 months and having no fixed destination, means we are never in a hurry. So we hunker down and enjoy some fresh seafood, great company and experience sea water swimming in May! As the weather settles we try anchoring out but things don't go to plan. Having aborted that plan, we still manage an amazing sail around lizard point to the Helford River and anchor up in the most peaceful spot. We visit a free museum in an awesome really well protected anchorage we found, we then take a VERY long dingy ride to the nearest own to get groceries. On our way back we find a hose at an old dock and fill up our water jugs with some VERY QUESTIONABLE yellowish water(we regret drinking this now). Lenny plays on the beach and Austin swims with tons of beautiful blue fish!

Welcome to another week of adventures! We started our journey from beautiful Gun Point, one of our favorite places with crystal clear blue waters! The next day we headed out to Governor's Harbour. Racing through the Bahamas with CAVU, never gets old!! We arrived at the beautiful little town and hung out for a while, snorkelling and wandering through the colorful town. After successfully finding hotdogs we headed south to visit Rock Sound. The sail was super beautiful and by the evening we arrived at the town!
