You just need a scooter to take full advantage of all its beaches. Having spent much of our time centered in Gustavia, we wanted to see what else the tropical paradise of St. Barthelemy had to offer. And prior to this, when we asked other travelers what there was to see and do on the island, their answer was always 'So and so beach'...and of course the airport. Heading out in the morning we had a list of beaches to tackle, although really the main goal was just to drive and stop when something looked good. And it turns out...a lot of the beaches looked pretty good! First was Anse de Colombier, which was a great hike leading to a beach and anchorage that left us drooling...and then back on the bike to Anse de Lorient which was fairly empty and had a laid back vibe. Anse Marechal was the next stop for us...a popular beach with the kiteboarders. From the air, it was a spectacular view. Our fourth beach for the day we knew we needed to make a visit to. Anse de Grande Saline, or the nude beach. In French islands, all the beaches are topless, but usually they have one or two nude beaches also. And well....we kind of wanted the chance to go skinny dipping without getting a fine. The water here was amazing and we could have stayed all day. There was a late lunch at JoJo's Burger Shack before watching the planes come in to land at the airport...the 3rd most dangerous in the world. I am loving the pink lighthouse, and decide we need a better look; we're going to walk up it, not totally legal... Kieran gets very anxious at the sight of a few ships stranded onshore, rethinking he's career choice a little. I would never believe the most scary yet beautiful sailing experince in my 27 years of sailing would happen in the waters right outside my hometown! I want to state that I under no circumstandses encourage anyone to head out in a storm force 10. On the other hand I will say that this is an amazing way to build confidence in yourself and your yacht. But to do this you will have to trust your boat and gear 100%, and make sure she can take it. To get to that level you will have to try in more and more wind and waves and observe how the boat, and not the least yorself, copes in the different conditions. And when the day comes you will at some time man up and go for it. If you dont trust yourself and the boat, but still force yourself to try, you will most lightly have a very frightening experience that will sit with you for a long time, maybe ruining your joy for the sport. We filmed several yachts, including the 157ft SuperYacht "C2", owned by Ronald Perelman.. Billionaire investor and philanthropist with holdings in Revlon Group of womens cosmetics, and AM General which is the company known for the Hummer and Humvee utility vehicles. At 82m in length, "VENUS" was the direct brain child of the late Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple for many years. Jointly designed with Philippe Starck, the yacht elegantly boasts pure simplicity in line with Steve Job's desire to design private, quiet places that provided the Zen like atmosphere that he preferred. Steve was once quoted as saying, "I've tried to be inspired by the Asian idea that emptiness is more important than fullness"... Hence the famous transparent chair he designed in 1998 called "The Marie" that he believed to be an "almost perfect object", just as his idea to bring "VENUS" to life as the Elegance of Minimal. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs passed away before ever getting to see his final masterpiece come to life, but the family brought the project to completion and now "VENUS" roams the Earth in Steve's memory with a fixed crew of 22 onboard.
