Based on the successes of the first Truly Classic 128 Atalante and TC128-2 Vijonara built at Pendennis, a third TC 128 has been built a SES yachts in Turkey, with hull construction at Bloemsma. The options available for the Truly Classic 128 are clearly illustrated aboard the latest interpretation of the design with the owner requesting a single deckhouse and a steering position set well aft. Her design again shares the same hull lines but has a different sailplan deck and interior layout. In addition, this yacht will be unusual in that she has a fractional sailplan, which should provide her with a sparkling performance in light winds. The spreaders are swept back, so that only one set of runners and staysails are required. The boom will be of Park Avenue type for easy sail handling. Under the water a torpedo-style T-bulb keel has been carefully designed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and positioned slightly further aft so that it relates to the mast step position and the machinery space positioned slightly further aft in this yacht. With a spade rudder and no skeg this yacht, which has a similar righting moment to that of a J-Class, will be a powerful and exciting sailing yacht. Down below the deckhouse saloon has been moved aft and the classical styling throughout is from our own Hoek Design team. The Double Sheet Bend is one of if not the best way to join to ropes of different diameter. You can learn how to tie a double sheet bend in less than two minutes. Here at Bottom Up Boat we prefer the Double Sheet Bend over the Single Sheet bend, the two loops around the bight give it key advantages over the single sheet bend. The two loops make the knot more secure before the knot has been put under load and easier to untie as the double loops cause the knot to tighten on the bight rather than the loop wedging itself at the top of the bend. Back in the water… and already chasing problems. In this episode of Sailing Doodles, I’m trying to get Nauti Dogs ready to finally go sailing, but there’s still a long list of jobs to knock out first. I investigate the engine alarm that went off right after launch, replace the alternator belt, and track down a frustrating water leak buried in one of the worst possible places on the boat. Fixing that leak meant crawling upside down and backwards into an incredibly tight space — definitely one of the more claustrophobic repairs I’ve done on this boat. There’s plenty more maintenance, troubleshooting, and last-minute preparation as I get everything ready for the next leg of the adventure.
