From installation to docking, SMARTDOCK is proving just how simple remote vessel control can be. At the Perth Boat Show, PG caught up with Jed from One Brokerage, the first person in Perth to install the new SMARTDOCK remote control system, fitted to a Regulator 34. Despite opening the dash to what initially looked like a complicated installation, Jed found the system remarkably straightforward, with a plug-and-play connection that had SMARTDOCK integrated and ready to go with minimal fuss. The real test came on the water. In strong winds, Jed was able to manoeuvre and dock the boat directly from his phone, giving him the freedom to move around the vessel and position himself where he had the best visibility. And after bringing the Regulator into Elizabeth Quay earlier that day, his verdict was simple: “Super easy.” SMARTDOCK is designed to take some of the pressure out of close-quarters manoeuvring, giving you greater control, visibility and independence when docking. Thanks to Jed and the One Brokerage team for putting it through its paces and sharing the feedback. https://zurl.co/1Ka2e @onebrokerage @jed_brewer @smartdock_de @regulatormarine #GineicoMarine #SmartDock #OneBrokerage #RegulatorMarine #PerthBoatShow #BoatDocking #MarineTechnology #BoatTechnology #MarineElectronics #BoatingWA #BoatingAustralia
Sustainable cruising isn’t just about the equipment you install onboard, it’s also about how you travel and live every day. 🌿⛵ In Part 2 of our sustainable boating series, we explore ways to cruise more efficiently and comfortably: ✓ Plan passages carefully and use navigation software to maximise sailing opportunities✓ Avoid motoring into heavy wind and swell where possible✓ Respect the environment by choosing moorings over anchoring when appropriate and following marine park regulations✓ Keep your hull clean and your boat well maintained to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption✓ Keep sails and rigging properly tuned to make the most of wind power✓ Embrace slow travel and enjoy the journey, not just the destination✓ Use natural ventilation, fans and wind scoops to reduce reliance on air conditioning✓ Invest in quality bedding and soft furnishings to improve onboard comfort naturally A well maintained, thoughtfully operated boat is not only more sustainable, it’s often a far more enjoyable way to cruise. What changes have you made to cruise more efficiently? 👇
The new generation of IMOCAs is here — but how fast are they really? The Ocean Race Atlantic provides the first major test as a fleet of brand new cutting-edge and modified IMOCA 60s takes on a 3,000-mile transatlantic sprint from New York to Lorient. Among the boats attracting plenty of attention are Boris Herrmann’s new Malizia and Kojiro Shiraishi’s DMG MORI — two of the latest designs pushing the IMOCA rule in their search for even more offshore performance. But they’re not alone. New boats, extensively reworked existing designs and teams preparing for everything from The Ocean Race to the Vendée Globe, fully crewed, double handed or solo, there are plenty of unanswered questions about how this new generation will stack up. So, it has been no surprise that there is a great deal of interest in this major offshore race as some of the new breed crossed the start line for the transatlantic sprint. In Part 1 of our Ocean Race Atlantic coverage, we take a closer look at the boats and teams lining up in New York as they headed out into the Atlantic.
🔗 Instagram: @hashtagsal_oficial #SAL #HashtagSal #SAL433 #vela #veleiro #navegacao #BarraDeSaoMiguel #Alagoas #LagoaDoRoteiro #PraiaDoGunga #PiscinasNaturais #vidaabordo
In 1981, Sir Peter Blake and Ceramco set a Whitbread Round the World Race 24-hour record of 316 nautical miles. In 42 years, that distance has more than doubled. From the classic Whitbread 60s and Volvo Open 70s to the modern foiling IMOCAs, offshore racing technology has evolved at a breakneck pace. During the 2022-23 Ocean Race, the 24-hour record changed hands three times in a single Atlantic crossing—ultimately topped by @teammalizia at an astounding 641.13 nautical miles. Now, as the fleet races across the Atlantic in The Ocean Race Atlantic, one big question remains: Will we see the 24-hour record broken again? Sieben Tage. In this episode we remove our battleborn batteries and replace them with Victron NG lithium batteries here in Phuket. Conrad Humphries is a career sailor and his adventures have truly run the gamut. He's done everything from Whitbread round-the-world racing to re-enacting the famous voyage of Captain Bligh for a BBC television series. I was connected to him through a mutual friend while Conrad was skippering the racing yacht HOUND, one of my all-time favorite boats (look it up!). Despite his love for sailing fast, Conrad actually bought the replica BOUNTY launch after the filming and sails it on the southwest coast of the UK.
