I grew up on the Patuxent River. Spent my early years on the old Belt Farm just north of Broome’s Island and later in life, off of Long Cove, which is off of Battle Creek, which is off the Patuxent River, at Prison Point. Toni and I spent many days sailing, canoeing, and fishing these waters. This was like coming back home. We were unprepared for the flood of memories as we dropped anchor in the waters of our youth. Toni promised the recipe for the Grilled Vegetables that we cooked during this episode. This recipe is really about the marinade: Steak (we always prefer Ribeyes) Fresh Vegetables Yellow Squash Zucchini Various Peppers Onions Egg Plant if available Marinade ½ cup olive oil ¼ cup apple cider vinegar 2 cloves of garlic 1 tsp leaf oregano 1 tsp leaf thyme 1 tsp salt ½ tsp red pepper ½ tsp paprika ½ tsp black pepper Instructions: Chunk the vegetables to preferred size Combine/Mix marinade Ingredients Combine marinade and vegetables in Ziplock bag, press any air out of bag Combine marinade and steaks in separate Ziplock bag, press any air out of bag It is best to marinade overnight in refrigerator Instructions Start grilling vegetables, as vegetables get close to completing Add steaks to grill and continue until your preferred doneness Plate steaks and bury steak with the vegetables Serve with nice full bodied red wine such as an old vine Zinfandel Bon Appetit !!! Toni and I could only afford one extra sail when we ordered “Moments in Time”. We chose the “Screecher” over a Spinnaker as we believed the “Screecher” would be a much more versatile sail for sailing the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. It is the perfect sail for sailing in light winds where there is frequent tacking and jibing in between the rivers and narrow channels of the bay, and because as we know, the winds only tend to blow in the direction you want to go. We wanted it rigged on a single furling system on the bow sprit so it could be easy to handle by Toni and I from the cockpit. Once rigged on the furling system, it becomes a simple matter of deploying. We have made some tweaks using additional snatch blocks since this video. Surprisingly there were not many videos on how to rig a “Screecher” on a continuous furling system. I hope this helps others. Subscribe and share the adventure! S4 EP09 Dans cette nouvelle aventure, nous quittons Nugnudub pour tenter de nous rapprocher du village Guna de Sidra, aux îles San Blas. Le plan était simple : s’ancrer près de Sidra et partir en excursion avec Lisa, notre guide locale, pour découvrir le Rio Sidra et le village. Mais très vite, rien ne se passe comme prévu… ⚠️ Les cartes marines sont erronées, l’ancre ne tient pas, et on manque même de s’échouer. On doit prendre une décision difficile : changer complètement de mouillage, quitte à arriver en retard pour notre tour, mais au moins mettre le bateau en sécurité. L’aventure continue malgré tout : nous remontons le Rio Sidra en lancha, puis à pied, une expédition improvisée et plus exigeante que prévu — surtout avec les enfants. 🌿 Moment fort et inattendu : la visite du cimetière Guna, une pause presque spirituelle qui nous marque profondément. Nous remontons le magnifique Río Diablo à travers un impressionnant labyrinthe de mangroves, explorons des coins sauvages et partageons la vie simple à bord. Petit passage à l’hôpital de Narganá suite à une réaction cutanée inexpliquée pour Malo (tout va bien ❤️), puis nous terminons cet épisode dans notre endroit préféré des San Blas : les Cayos Holandeses.
