It`s been a while, but this is a trip that I had with my Dad and my Son in my parents boat. Sunrise, sailing, swimming, eating, drinking and chatting. I`m so very lucky to have such a strong family unit
A sailing trip to Fowey, another to the Helford, plus fitting out my new dinghy and changing the sink and units in the bathroom. Swimming from the boat and from the beach. Family and fun
This catch up video shows how we`ve started 2023 with sailing, anti fouling, overnighters and some fun reef sailing
At last the season has started. After what feels like a long winter of working, the boat has now been anti-fouled and polished. The sails have been cleaned, the engine serviced and I have at last been out sailing with family. I`ve even managed a walk
After an interlude of a few months, I`m letting you all know that I`m still here and still sailing. This episode has a lot of me sailing with my children (Alice and Sam) and my father. Plus you get to see the Cornish coastline when I`m walking and the day to day chores of keeping the boat maintained.
After two and a half years of working on my book, this week it has finally been published. Originally titled Walking with Legends, but changed due to sounding too big headed, it is now titled Short Walks in Cornwall - with each walk introducing a traditional Cornish story. This is my collection of eight short walks in West Cornwall which are all inspired and based around a local Cornish Legend. So not only can you have a walking day out, but you can also spend time story telling. I hope that you will enjoy.
In this episode, I explain how I`ve stored the emergency tiller for quick usage and show how to fit it, as well as fixing another water leak, cleaning ropes and drying sails - plus a little bit of live-aboard cooking in the depths of a Cornish winter
After a few requests, I have put together a video of the sort of food that I find easy to prepare (and eat) on board my 33ft Moody. I am far from being even a moderate home cook, but I haven`t starved over the last 14 months of living aboard, so I hope that this will give you an insight into how easy it really is. Plus there`s a section on every Cornishman`s favourite food - the humble pasty. I`ve also been lucky enough to get a few walks in, around working and I`ve included these as well. I hope that you will enjoy.
This week has been more about boat life than sailing (although I`ve still got out twice). In this video, I`ve tried to show a little more of the reality of living on board a boat, whilst still trying to get out sailing, walking and starting work again! A bit of cooking, a bit of cleaning the boat through and a bit of rain!
This week has seen the beginning of our second national lockdown, but fortunately (for me) this time we are still allowed to go sailing as long as we return to our home port. So I`ve taken advantage of this and in between the rain and storms I have had three great sails. I hope that you will enjoy watching
This week has seen the Autumn storms arrive with proper lack of weather in between. However, I`ve still been out sailing with family and friends and have got some good walking in both in Cornwall and up on Dartmoor with a good friend. The rain and wind has also allowed me to get on with a few of those domestic chores which also need doing when (like me) you are a live-aboard.
The middle of October marks a milestone for me, as it was this time last year that I made the move from land to water. For me, it`s been a great year. Join me on my look back at the family and friends that have joined me and made this year special, and also the sailing, walking and generally living the dream life. I hope that you will enjoy
After a cracking Summer, Autumn is here, and its arrived with either light winds or strong winds. So this week has seen plenty of sailing, swimming and walking - with family and old friends. There`s been birthdays, scrambling and wild swimming. Plus dropping anchor and swimming from the boat.
This week has been great for me. I`ve been off for my first proper solo trip, sailing 86 nautical miles with a distance from shore of around 13 nautical miles. I also had a little incident with the engine (lost drive just as I left a mooring) but all ended well. This video is pretty much all sailing, so sit back and I hope that you will enjoy (as much as I did the sailing).
This weeks upload of my life as a live aboard, has me rudely awakened by a tanker collision in the harbour. Along with the two storms that have hit Cornwall, Mum`s birthday, friends visiting and wild swimming, I`m lucky to have gotten out sailing twice (but it was good on both occasions)
This week has seen either very light winds or thunder and storms, so I`ve only been sailing a couple of times - but one of them was a `high speed` race. I have, however, used the time to make a cockpit table and binocular holder as well as been out walking and having my evening swim (with the fishes).
What a difference in the sailing weather. From clear blue skies and light winds, to minimal visibility and reefed sails and hearing but not seeing the lighthouse! Friends and family have joined me this week, but I`ve also had time for some good solo sailing, the odd bit of maintenance and my own take on a safety feature has been fitted following on from an overheard PanPan last week.
Three separate days of sailing, with varying winds. On the third day I reefed, and found that my boat sails really safely and flat even as the wind picks up slightly. On the second day we saw two separate pods of dolphins (in all in excess of 35 dolphins) and both pods came and swam around and under the boat. Visits and sailing crew of both family and friends has been great, as well as being able to do some small boat maintenance. All in all a very good week of sailing, leaving me with a very happy feeling
With the ports and harbours of the south coast opening up last weekend, I have taken the opportunity to sail to Fowey and back, staying away from my home port for the first time since February. We had porpoise, sunfish and an unknown something (maybe Morgawr). We`ve also been messing around in dinghy`s, sailing with Alice, anti-fouling Mum and Dads boat, and even squeezed in some walking. A very quiet week!!
At last, I`ve been able to get out and do more sailing. This week has seen me out three times, as well as fixing a leaking window, playing tennis and having a great Father`s Day walk.
