ORCA!! and VERY Stinky Stowaway This week we head to Whangarei in New Zealand's North Island and walk to the top of Mount Manaia. We have our first ever encounter with New Zealand Orca's (killer Whales) and Jo does an awful lot of squealing when they swim past the boat while hunting stingrays. A truly awesome encounter. We get our furler fixed and then have a lively sail to Great Barrier Island in 30 knots of breeze. On the way we get welcomed by some very excited dolphins, surfing and playing in our bow wave. Our most active dolphin encounter so far! When we arrive at the Barrier we then discover a stowaway from our Fiji crossing - a very ripe character. We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you. In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel! Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world. https://www.youtube.com/c/SailingDoubleTrouble?sub_confirmation=1 👏Credits: Thanks to 'Shure ' microphones for voiceover sound. 🎼Music: DT Theme tune - 'Happy' by MBB https://soundcloud.com/mbbofficial Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love

Also known as The Straad, St Ninian’s Bay is another small bay on the west coast of Bute. St Ninian’s point is a spit of land that can become cut off with spring tides, but the Bay itself is protected by this promonotory. The Bay commands breathtaking views of Inchmarnock, and is home to St Ninian’s Chapel. The bay itself once supported a thriving fishing fleet and as such the beach is covered with a sand of white cockleshells. This week we have fun at anchor, enjoy a BBQ with friends and forget many things.... Who are we? We are a family of three with three dogs, sailing the coasts of Scotland, exploring one island at a time – for now! There is no set route or plan. We will go where the wind and life take us. We have two golden retrievers and a bernese mountain dog – Hachi, Luna and Meems who sail with us. We sail on a 1995 Gib’Sea 472 who we are in the process of refitting, making our own and preparing for a big adventure. Connect with us! In this episode, join us on our sailing journey as we bid farewell to the breathtaking Loch Spelve and set sail for Oban. We reflect on 11 days of magnificent sailing and exploration of the enchanting Isle of Skye and the Isle of Mull and we say good bye to our dear friend Nina. Along the way, we reunite with our dear friends Mark and Asha from the good ship Altor of Down (@AdventureNow) and share heartfelt goodbyes, hoping to meet again next year. Experience the beauty of the stunning Puilladobhrain anchorage, where we spend a magical night surrounded by nature's wonders. However, a sudden change in the weather forecast brings a large depression approaching faster than anticipated. To ensure our safety, we take the decision to head towards the Crinan Canal a few days earlier than planned, just before its winter closure. As we adapt to the new plan, we eagerly await the arrival of our friends Fiona and Richard, who will join us in the Firth of Clyde instead of Oban. Join us as we settle in Tarbert to seek shelter from the expected high winds and embark on new adventures amidst Scotland's captivating landscapes. Don't miss this captivating episode filled with breathtaking scenery, unexpected twists, and the camaraderie of fellow sailors. #sailingadventure #ScotlandExploration #IsleofSkye #IsleofMull #CrinanCanal #Tarbert #SailorsLife #FriendshipAtSea Mark & Asha‘s Youtube channel Adventure Now: @AdventureNow Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:34 Good bye to Nina 01:32 Sailing to Puilladobhrain 02:27 Puilladobhrain ("Pool of the Otters") 03:15 Emergency anchor light 04:17 A disquieting weather forecast and a change of plan 06:50 Sailing to Crinan 07:29 Back in Crinan Canal 10:30 Sailing to Tarbert Music from Epidemic Sound: Matter Of Touch by Headlund From My Beating Heart by Mike Stringer Easy Conversation by Gold In June For What Is Right by Trevor Kowalski Follow us on social media: https://www.instagram.com/sailingpolaris https://www.facebook.com/sailingpolaris https://www.sailingpolaris.uk Hi! We are Kathrin and Daniel. We sail, cruise and live aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a 14m Bavaria Cruiser 46 from 2017. We left our native Switzerland and moved to the UK almost two decades ago. In 2021, in our mid 50-ies, after our three boys left the nest we made a big decision. We left the rat race in London behind and made our beloved sailboat our primary floating home. Over the years we have added a few things to Polaris. We got rid of the standard propane gas cooker and replaced it with an electric cooker and oven. We fitted a generator and changed to a lithium (LiFePo) house battery bank. We added a 1'200W solar arch and a water maker. With all these upgrades Polaris is now a comfortable live aboard yacht. We sail her along Britain's beautiful coastline and we live on her summer and winter. Kathrin loves cooking and baking on board. You will see some of her cookery wonders across our episodes. We completely fell in love with our new lifestyle although we had to make some tough decisions. We vacated our rented house in London and sold or gave away all our belongings that had no space on Polaris. What a very liberating feeling to be able to say that all we own is with us on our small sailing boat. There's nothing else to care about. We enjoy our new freedom. We explore new places, discover their history and we love making new friends along our way.

#catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sailing #Antigua #EnglishHarbour #FalmouthHarbor #NelsonsDockyard #AntiguaHiking #HellsGate #GreatBirdIsland We spent 6 weeks in Antigua and Barbuda during Winter of 2023. We will cover the best and the worst (in our opinion) of our stops. The Best : the waters and coastlines. The Worst: InLand - most areas are run down and dirty. Only place for ample quality groceries was St. Johns, which was also the most difficult to get to. Burning garbage smell in some anchorages is unbearable. 1. English Harbor. The Best: historic Nelson’s Dockyard (and the wonderful Jolene at the Dockmaster’s office) Fort Berkeley Trails, Mermaid Rocks as well as Carpenter Trail and Shirley Heights, Pillars of Hercules, The Pillars restaurant at Admiral’s Inn, Incantino Italian restaurant, French pastries delivered to boat daily. Fuel available. The Worst: Crowded. Anchor holding by Galleon Beach questionable. 2. Carlisle Bay - Best: wonderful resort where you can use dinghy dock to visit the restaurant, and even rent a car. Worst: nothing! 3. Cades Reef & Middle Reef - Best: anchoring right between the reefs. Worst: Reefs are dead but still fish to see. 4. Jolly Harbor and surrounding beaches - Best: Good marina if needed, budget marine right by dinghy dock. Good grocery store Epicurious. Plenty of anchoring areas and beaches. Laundry service in boatyard. Worst: nothing. 5. Five Islands - Best: large bay with plenty of anchoring and beaches. Worst: nothing 6. Deep Bay - Best: Wreck of the Andes great to snorkel. Fort Barrington is a nice short hike. Hawksbill Rock is a beautiful site. Worst: resort is all inclusive, so no access. 7. Boon Channel - Enter on the west coast and exit carefully in calm seas on the east coast through Bird Islet channel. Best: Great Bird Island, Hells’ Gate, all the smaller islands are worth visits when you can get access. Red head island, Rabbit island, Lobster island - go between the reefs carefully. Crabb Island North Sound Marina Budget Marine. Worst: Maiden Island - no access, Prickly Pear - no anchoring, Parham - rundown city. Jumby Bay (Long Island) no access. 8. Nonsuch Bay Green Island - Best: Beautiful protected bay where you can anchor right by the ocean protected by their reefs. Must enter from south side to avoid them. Great snorkeling on beach as you first enter channel - lobsters! Asian restaurant called Rokuni is 10STAR! Great food, infinity pool with drinks! Lots of windsurfers and kiteboarders and classes are available through 40 North. Dinghy dock on back of nonsuch bay resort has access to parking lot where you can meet a rental car if needed. Veteran and multi-Olympic race officer Sulis was clear at the morning briefing, "Our priority is to get three races for the 49er so they can progress to the gold fleet." It took all day to get it done, but three good races for each fleet were conducted over a six-hour bake on the water. NZL 250: Kiwis Shine on Day 3 with Smart Racing and Strong Rivalry The standout performers of the day were undoubtedly New Zealand’s Seb Menzies and George Lee Rush, who delivered an impressive 2,3,1 scoreline despite a grueling seven-hour day on the water. With long waits before races, the duo showed they’ve mastered the "on-off" switch—staying mentally fresh until it was time to perform, and perform they did. Their success seems fueled in part by a healthy rivalry with fellow Kiwis Sam Bacon and Blake MacGlashan, who currently sit in 9th. The two teams have been training closely and pushing each other, both on and off the water. Word is they’ll be heading out for dinner tonight—celebrating a strong day of racing, camaraderie, and the kind of competition that brings out the best in both teams. A few races had to be abandoned, and those that held were anything but predictable, but a group of 25 have been selected to challenge for the championship. Even to those doing well struggled. Hernan Umpierre with Fernando Diz (URU) grabbed a huge lead on the first lap of race six and chose to head back in the same direction for the second lap. The three teams following them around the gate thirty seconds later all went the opposite way and got past the Uruguayans. "We got beat early in the second lap, so we headed over to where the fleet was, then we got caught out again and dropped back even further," said Umpierre. "We hung in on the final downwind and salvaged a fifth, so still a good race, but far from easy." Third overall are Rask and Jensen (DEN) who sailed a fantastic final race of the qualifier to secure a second in the race. They were in touch with the leaders on the upwinds, fast and accurate on the downwind and didn't take much risk to sail another very tidy race. The pair are a rarity in Olympic circles as they missed out on Paris 2024 selection back in 2023 but enjoyed their sailing so much they continued through the whole 2024 season for the pure joy of it and have brought that positive attitude forward into 2025. First Firsts The unpredictable racecourse left lots of room for newcomers to the fleet to get their moments in the sun. Israel's Tal Sade with Maor Abu predicted they'd be the day's stars before heading out, "We want 4 wins from 4 races!" said Maor. It wasn't quite that good of a day, but they won their second race of the qualifying and made it into the gold fleet. Jacob Marks , the 18 years old Australian sailing with Charlie Zeeman won their first ever race, "We both agreed that we were either gonna be first or last and it turned out well." The pair have been sailing together for one and a half years, and finished qualifying in 36 place, just outside the gold fleet window. Maximo Videlo with Tideo de Rioja (ARG) also won their first-ever race, and they've only been sailing together for about fifteen days. They were nervous and contemplative onshore, unsure of whether they'd make gold. After five of six races they were 10 points back, and their race win put them in reach of gold! They were overjoyed to find out it was enough, and they sit in 24th overall with protests pending. Hot and bothered The 49er fleet was sent to the sea at 2:30 pm, but the first race didn't get going until 5 pm. The FX and Nacra 17 fleets were held on shore, and were almost sent to the water, but after a couple of races got abandoned, they got sent home without getting wet. The 49er feet used every ounce of wind available to squeeze in three good ones, and were home on shore for a pasta snack by 8 pm - a long, hot soak in the sun. What's next The 49er gold and silver fleets, FX, and Nacra 17 each have two more days of fleet racing before the medal race day. The forecast continues to call for light winds so the sailors and officials will keep getting their patience and guile tested! Follow along via the regatta website for results, photos, videos, and more. There will be a very lightweight live broadcast each day featuring limited footage but consistent content from the venue so fans can get a feel for what’s happening all week. We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Living on a boat in Europe doesn’t have to mean mega yachts, millionaire budgets, or hardcore sailing skills. In this video, we completely flip the script and show you how you can live aboard a canal boat in Europe for around $50,000, with camping-level living costs, no tides, no waves, and skills you can learn in a single day. This is one of the most underrated cruising lifestyles on the planet — and almost nobody is talking about it. We’re diving deep into what long-term canal boat living is really like: 🚤 Buying a fully equipped liveaboard canal boat for ~$50k 💰 Running costs that are cheaper than rent 🛶 Free mooring (yes, really — even in places like Paris) 📉 Annual canal licenses that cost less than a weekend marina stay 🧠 Minimal skills required (no sailing experience needed) 🍷 Wine at lunchtime, medieval villages, and fresh bread every day Canal cruising isn’t about rushing — it’s about slowing down. Picture cruising through vineyards, tying up right in the center of town, walking to the local boulangerie, and accidentally docking in the middle of a village festival… again and again. We also cover: • How far you can travel on Europe’s interconnected canal system • Living aboard year-round (including winters) • The canal community & lock keepers (éclusiers) • Why this lifestyle is perfect for beginners • Why canal boats are cheaper to maintain than seagoing yachts • The real costs of fuel, food, marinas, and licenses • Why chartering a canal boat first is a smart move From the English Channel to the Mediterranean — and all the way through central Europe — this lifestyle lets you live inside the countries you travel through, not just pass by them. If you’ve ever said: “I can’t afford cruising.” “I don’t have the skills.” “Maybe one day…” This video might just destroy every one of those excuses. Kick off your shoes, slow down, and come barefoot with us. This lifestyle shouldn’t be this cheap and easy… but it is. 👉 Subscribe for the full canal cruising series 👍 Like & comment if this surprised you 📤 Share with that friend who thinks cruising is only for the rich 👣 About Us We’re the Barefoot Doctors — medical doctors and lifelong sailors living full-time aboard a performance expedition catamaran.
