At the 2024 Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series in St. Petersburg, Florida, Sailing World editor in chief, Dave Reed, gets a guided tour of a state-of-the-art Windmill Dinghy, a doubledhanded one-design class created in the 1950s by the late Clark Mills and still popular today.

Le rendu des images 3D faisait déjà son petit effet… mais alors sur l’eau, nous voilà à bord d’un catamaran digne de figurer dans le prochain James Bond ! L’aménagement assume à 100 % le programme de day charter avec une nacelle extra large – elle est complètement ouverte à l’arrière et vers le bow-rider avant grâce à une porte vitrée, laquelle peut rester ouverte par beau temps. Des assises modulables partout, un poste de barre décentré sur tribord et… basta. Chaque coque est tout de même équipée d’une couchette double, de volumes de rangement et d’un cabinet de toilette. La construction en composite assurée en one-off par le Chantier Hervé (on ne le présente plus à La Rochelle !), ces aménagements dépouillés et l’absence de plate-forme hydraulique se traduisent in fine par un déplacement contenu à 11 tonnes. Les deux blocs FPT de 500 CV chacun n’ont donc pas grand mal à propulser le Sunmare à 30 nœuds. A bord, on relève un excellent passage dans le clapot et le soin porté à l’insonorisation. Maestro, c’est son nom, sera exploité dès la saison 2024 par Croisière Exclusive au départ de Porto-Vecchio. Next we drive to Marathon Island in the Florida Keys and check in our Pirate bungalow next to the Sunset Bar & Grill before leaving to go to Big Coppitt Key to the catamaran we chartered to stay on for the trip.
