In this episode, join us on our sailing journey as we bid farewell to the breathtaking Loch Spelve and set sail for Oban. We reflect on 11 days of magnificent sailing and exploration of the enchanting Isle of Skye and the Isle of Mull and we say good bye to our dear friend Nina. Along the way, we reunite with our dear friends Mark and Asha from the good ship Altor of Down (@AdventureNow) and share heartfelt goodbyes, hoping to meet again next year. Experience the beauty of the stunning Puilladobhrain anchorage, where we spend a magical night surrounded by nature's wonders. However, a sudden change in the weather forecast brings a large depression approaching faster than anticipated. To ensure our safety, we take the decision to head towards the Crinan Canal a few days earlier than planned, just before its winter closure. As we adapt to the new plan, we eagerly await the arrival of our friends Fiona and Richard, who will join us in the Firth of Clyde instead of Oban. Join us as we settle in Tarbert to seek shelter from the expected high winds and embark on new adventures amidst Scotland's captivating landscapes. Don't miss this captivating episode filled with breathtaking scenery, unexpected twists, and the camaraderie of fellow sailors. #sailingadventure #ScotlandExploration #IsleofSkye #IsleofMull #CrinanCanal #Tarbert #SailorsLife #FriendshipAtSea Mark & Asha‘s Youtube channel Adventure Now: @AdventureNow Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:34 Good bye to Nina 01:32 Sailing to Puilladobhrain 02:27 Puilladobhrain ("Pool of the Otters") 03:15 Emergency anchor light 04:17 A disquieting weather forecast and a change of plan 06:50 Sailing to Crinan 07:29 Back in Crinan Canal 10:30 Sailing to Tarbert Music from Epidemic Sound: Matter Of Touch by Headlund From My Beating Heart by Mike Stringer Easy Conversation by Gold In June For What Is Right by Trevor Kowalski Follow us on social media: https://www.instagram.com/sailingpolaris https://www.facebook.com/sailingpolaris https://www.sailingpolaris.uk Hi! We are Kathrin and Daniel. We sail, cruise and live aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a 14m Bavaria Cruiser 46 from 2017. We left our native Switzerland and moved to the UK almost two decades ago. In 2021, in our mid 50-ies, after our three boys left the nest we made a big decision. We left the rat race in London behind and made our beloved sailboat our primary floating home. Over the years we have added a few things to Polaris. We got rid of the standard propane gas cooker and replaced it with an electric cooker and oven. We fitted a generator and changed to a lithium (LiFePo) house battery bank. We added a 1'200W solar arch and a water maker. With all these upgrades Polaris is now a comfortable live aboard yacht. We sail her along Britain's beautiful coastline and we live on her summer and winter. Kathrin loves cooking and baking on board. You will see some of her cookery wonders across our episodes. We completely fell in love with our new lifestyle although we had to make some tough decisions. We vacated our rented house in London and sold or gave away all our belongings that had no space on Polaris. What a very liberating feeling to be able to say that all we own is with us on our small sailing boat. There's nothing else to care about. We enjoy our new freedom. We explore new places, discover their history and we love making new friends along our way.
