During a two-and-half-week-stay in Baja California Sur I had the chance to dive and explore the coast off Cabo San Lucas and around the Isla Santa Margarita and the Magdalena Bay. Encounters with orcas, striped marlins, mobulas, humpback whales, different dolphin species and bull sharks made the trip unforgettable. Special thanks to Nautilus Liveaboards for the stay on the MV Gallant Lady and the excellent crew-service. In this video, we explain Radar Beacons (RACONs) and their role in marine radar navigation. A RACON is a receiver–transmitter installed on a fixed navigational aid that responds to a ship’s radar signal by transmitting a distinctive Morse-coded response. This signal appears on the radar display and helps mariners identify the navigational aid. #NavigationalAid #marineradar #arpa #passageplanning #voyageplanning #seamanship #maritime #seafarer #seaman #bsmt #maritimestudents #ecdis https://youtu.be/iVYZ9DNW9GE

Entramos na maré e no momento certo. Durante a travessia, porém, pegamos mar forte e ondas grandes por causa de uma frente fria que vinha do norte. Stewart Island has long felt remote, wild, and quietly legendary — a place many people dream of visiting. In this first episode of our Rakiura Track journey, we arrive on Stewart Island and take our first steps into the southern forest. Day one brought everything we had hoped for — wild coastline, deep bush, and that feeling of being far from the familiar. But even in those early steps, we began to notice things that stayed with us. This is Part 1 of our Stewart Island walking series — a story of first impressions, quiet forests, and what it means to truly walk through a landscape. We’re not experienced trampers — just travellers learning through the places we move through. And sometimes, walking slowly reveals more than we expect. Thanks for walking with us. Some places are hard to leave. The last days we spent in the Bahamas brought daily lightning storms, curious dolphins, and a few final dives before turning Dark Angel toward the Dominican Republic. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we’re anchored at Mathew Town, Great Inagua, waiting through daily lightning storms for a weather window to beat to the Dominican Republic. Dolphins keep visiting while we manage to get both engines running long enough to dock at the marina for fuel. Between storms we dive the shoreline and anchorage and finish getting Dark Angel ready for the passage south. These were our final dives in the Bahamas before sailing south toward the Dominican Republic. 🌊 Sailing Dark Angel follows our real-life journey sailing the Caribbean aboard our Island Spirit catamaran, sharing the challenges, adventures, and everyday moments of liveaboard sailing life. -------------------- 🎥 Become part of the Crew on Patreon Without a Crew, a Ship Has No Direction. In this Sailing Helios episode, we cast off from Denia as thunderstorms rumble along the coast – not ideal sailing weather! We push on and find excellent shelter from the forecast strong winds tucked beside the dramatic Penyal d'Ifac (Peñón de Ifach), the iconic limestone rock in Calpe that towers 332 meters (over 1,000 feet) – as tall as the Empire State Building and dominating the Costa Blanca skyline. After waiting out the bad weather for a day (and enjoying the stunning views), we set sail south toward Alicante with the wind, waves, and current all pushing us along – finally some proper sailing! It's exhilarating to harness the breeze after the calm, but we're excited to arrive in Alicante for a few days of exploring the city and its sights. Changing a forestay on a catamaran without dropping the mast — is it even possible? We did it, and here's exactly how. Our forestay on SV GOAT (Lagoon 400) was overdue for replacement. The "right" way means unstepping the mast — a boatyard job, serious cost, serious hassle. We did it the hard way instead: at anchor, with the mast standing. In this episode we walk you through every step: rigging temporary support, managing tension, swapping the stay, and staying (pun intended) safe throughout. No yard. No crane. Just two people, the right tools, and a plan. What we cover: Why we chose to do it with the mast up Tools and hardware you'll need Step-by-step process from start to finish Mistakes to avoid (we made a few) Cost breakdown vs. having a yard do it Whether you're on a Lagoon, a monohull, or any cruising sailboat — if your forestay is due for replacement, watch this before you call the boatyard. SV GOAT is a Lagoon 400 catamaran currently cruising the Mediterranean. We document the real side of live-aboard sailing — maintenance, passages, and everything in between. In this video I show how EV chargers (often called wallboxes) communicate with the car using the Control Pilot signal. We look at the PWM signal, duty cycle, resistor states (A/B/C) and the diode safety check that tells the charger it’s really connected to a vehicle. To demonstrate this, I built a simple DIY EV charger tester that simulates a car so you can safely observe the charging handshake on an oscilloscope. This project is great if you want to understand: • how EV charging actually works • how the control pilot signal communicates current limits • why a diode is required for safety • how the PWM duty cycle controls the allowed charging current ________________________________________ Parts used in the DIY EV Tester WAGO Lever Nuts (wire connectors) WAGO 221 Lever Nuts 90pc Assortment https://amzn.to/40ioxF5 WAGO 221 Lever Nuts 28pc Assortment https://amzn.to/4rfHrYc Electronics Components Resistor Kit https://amzn.to/4rlecDo 1N4007 Rectifier Diode https://amzn.to/4rlevhw ON/OFF Round Rocker Switch https://amzn.to/4litZ4r Heavy Duty Rocker Toggle Switch https://amzn.to/46MHBPD Indicator LED Light 110V / 120V https://amzn.to/4stPQbo ________________________________________ Tools used in the video OWON Oscilloscope / Multimeter () (I am using the HDS2102 with 100MHz) but the 2CH 25 MHz is more then sufficient for this job https://amzn.to/46NlsR5 ________________________________________ EV Charging Test Equipment Triplett TEV300 Electric Vehicle Charger Test Kit https://amzn.to/4udFcau DEWALT Level 2 EV Charger https://amzn.to/40jTKYB ________________________________________ Affiliate Disclaimer Some of the links above are affiliate links.

Aquila Contact & Info: https://bit.ly/40dpmyY Become a NAUTI Member: https://bit.ly/NautiCrew Follow Us Building an Explorer Yacht @NautiGuys https://bit.ly/3yPe1Z5 This is BIG! Something new from Aquila… and we were really curious to see it in person. Today, we’re stepping aboard the Aquila 50 Sail Catamaran, the brand’s move into the sailing world after years of building popular power catamarans. The first thing you notice is the space and light. The salon is surrounded by huge windows, the cockpit flows beautifully into the interior, and the entire boat feels open and incredibly comfortable. Some of my favorite parts? The entertainment bow and the privacy of the cabins! It’s clearly designed for people who want to spend real time onboard. Rico loved digging into the sailing setup and overall design approach — it’s always interesting to see how a brand known for powercats interprets a sailing platform. If you’re curious about this new sailing catamaran and how Aquila is entering the sailing market, you’re going to enjoy this tour. A Classic Style Boat For UNDER €1 Million? | Apreamare Gozzo 48 | The Marine Channel Join us as we step aboard the Apreamare Gozzo 48, a modern interpretation of the traditional Sorrentine gozzo, built by Apreamare. Combining timeless Italian styling with contemporary naval architecture, the Gozzo 48 is designed to deliver relaxed Mediterranean cruising with the comfort and performance expected of a modern motor yacht. We begin on deck, where the walkaround layout is designed around outdoor living. The cockpit offers generous seating and sunpad space, while the bow provides an additional social area for relaxing at anchor. The design blends classic lines with modern practicality, creating a yacht that feels equally suited to entertaining guests or enjoying long days on the water. Stepping inside, the interior continues the theme of refined Italian craftsmanship. Large glass surfaces bring in plenty of natural light, connecting the cockpit and saloon to create a bright, open atmosphere. The layout includes a spacious dinette and well-equipped galley, while below deck, the Gozzo 48 can be configured with two or three cabins and two bathrooms, offering comfortable accommodation for extended cruising. Underway, the Gozzo 48’s deep-V hull—designed by naval architect Umberto Tagliavini—delivers stable and confident handling, with twin Volvo Penta power options capable of pushing the boat to around 30 knots while maintaining efficient cruising speeds. First update since I got back to the boat. Today aboard Osprey I'm walking through the boat showing where things stand as we push toward departure. A lot has been happening below decks. Both bilges have finally been cleaned properly after discovering how water from the engine bay actually splits across the internal frame and spreads into both side bilges. With everything flushed and reset, we’re installing a new bilge pump and bringing the system back into proper order. The grey water tank top is now fitted, which makes life on board a lot easier, and the mast boot is secured, reducing the water coming down the mast dramatically. On deck, I’m preparing to go up the mast today. The rig has been pumping more than it should, so we’re going to put a basic tune into the rig and start stabilising things properly. We also spotted something interesting on the backstay chainplate — the shackles were installed upside down. Those will be turned over and new lashings fitted to bring that connection back into proper order. So today’s jobs include: • Mast climb and initial rig tune • Correcting the backstay shackles and lashings • Finishing the bilge pump installation • Finalising the grey water system • Continuing preparations for departure One major job still ahead is dealing with the mainsail mast track, which is absolutely essential to get sorted before Osprey can properly head back to sea. Every step is part of bringing this Grand Mistral 80 maxi yacht back into full working order for the next stage of the voyage. --- The Mariner Podcast The Mariner Podcast explores offshore sailing, leadership, long voyages, and the realities of life at sea. It’s currently ranked in the top 3% of podcasts globally. --- The Mariner’s Library The Mariner’s Library is a growing archive of maritime writing, ocean knowledge, and reflections from life offshore. --- Support the Project If you'd like to support the Osprey campaign and help keep the voyage moving forward: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/themariner Your support directly helps fund the refit, preparation, and storytelling behind this project. --- Follow the Journey YouTube – Mariner Podcast – Mariner Podcast / Mariner's Library Patreon – The Mariner --- About Osprey Osprey is a Grand Mistral 80 maxi yacht originally built for ocean racing. Old Boats, New Generations: The Real Value of Our Cruising Life: https://www.practical-sailor.com/voyaging/old-boats-new-generations-the-real-value-of-our-cruising-life/ Tartan Yachts is one of the most respected names in American sailboat building — but in recent years, the brand found itself caught in the wake of the Catalina Yachts controversy and a rapid wave of industry consolidation. In this video, we take a deep dive into the full Tartan story: from its early roots at Douglass & McLeod, to the devastating 1971 factory fire that reshaped the company, to the legendary boats that made sailors fiercely loyal to the brand. We explore why models like the Tartan 27 became classics, how Tartan earned a reputation for conservative engineering and advanced composites, and why so many sailors believe these boats are built to last. We also break down what happened when Michael Reardon acquired multiple American sailboat manufacturers, how the Catalina fallout raised concerns across the sailing world, and how Tartan ultimately emerged under new ownership — avoiding deeper turmoil that affected other brands. This is not a boat review. It’s an industry story about American boatbuilding, ownership risk, legacy brands, and why Tartan Yachts still matters today for sailors, buyers, and owners alike. Whether you’re a longtime Tartan owner, considering buying a used Tartan sailboat, or trying to understand what’s happening in the modern sailboat industry, this video gives you the context you won’t find in sales brochures or forum rumors. 📌 Topics covered: Tartan Yachts history and origins The 1971 Douglass & McLeod factory fire The Tartan 27 and other iconic Tartan sailboats Why sailors trust and defend Tartan Yachts Catalina Yachts ownership controversy explained How Tartan survived consolidation in the sailboat industry If you enjoy in-depth sailing content, sailboat history, and practical insights into buying and owning boats, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts in the comments. In this episode, we leave Moorea and battle a rough passage to Tahiti, with strong winds on the nose and a port engine that refuses to start. Our mechanic arrives the next morning, but even he can’t pinpoint the problem. While we tackle projects and make progress elsewhere, the electrical mystery remains unsolved. Now we’re faced with a big decision: do we stay and wait for an electrician—or take a rare weather window and head for the Tuamotus? #sailing #sailinglife #liveaboard #catamaranlife #bluewatercruising #offshorepassage #enginefailure #boatprojects #mechanic #boatlife #cruisinglife #sailors #southpacific #frenchpolynesia #moorea #tahiti #tuamotus #weatherwindow #sailingadventure #lifeatsea NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? I’ve framed walls before, but they were usually for small sheds where "close enough" was good enough. This is different. This is my actual home in Bryson City, North Carolina, and every mistake I make now is a mistake I’ll have to live with (literally). In the first half of today’s episode, my dad and I take on the challenge of framing our first interior wall solo. The goal? Don't repeat the mistakes of the past. No twisted studs, no "good enough" corners—just pure, square framing. Then, the real pros arrive. I’ve got my friends from Ellis Earthworksand Custom Homes come to help me finish the rest of the interior walls. These guys are a classic Southern Mountain crew—fast, incredibly skilled, and hilarious to be around. They’ve been teaching me the trade, and in this video, we’re sharing the framing tips and tricks that make the difference between an amateur build and a professional house. Let’s get to work! Huge thanks to the crew who helped make this happen — links to everyone involved below. Hardtop built on a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, all done at a mooring where the cockpit is the only workshop. Fighting storms after storms trying to have some progress, and even watching a ship capzising and sinking. This is not a how-to guide for building a HARD DODGER or HARDTOP. It is a journey showing how I do it in my way. Without claiming this is the way to do it. Thank you so much for tagging along and for the patrons' support in making this video possible. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it. Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me. Even though this is season 8 on YouTube, I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 7 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. I also have more than 10 years of experience as a captain in search and rescue at sea in Norway.

For decades the brand has produced some of the most iconic boats in the world — from the legendary wooden runabouts beloved by film stars in the 1960s to today’s striking flybridge yachts. In this video we take a full walkthrough tour of NOI, a beautifully presented Riva 90 Argo currently for sale. Delivered in 2020, this GRP planing yacht combines sleek Italian styling from Officina Italiana Design with genuine performance. Twin MTU 16V2000 engines push her to an impressive 30-knot top speed, while upgrades such as an additional gyro stabiliser, upgraded air-conditioning system and enhanced generator setup make her particularly comfortable for extended cruising. One of the most interesting aspects of this yacht is that although she measures 28.5 metres overall, she is classed as under 24 metres by load line length. That technical detail makes a big difference in practice. It allows the yacht to operate with fewer regulatory restrictions and opens access to anchorages that can be off limits to larger yachts — making her particularly attractive for an owner-operator. Step inside and the Italian design philosophy becomes immediately clear. Walnut panelling, Calacatta marble and stainless-steel detailing create a look that is understated but unmistakably elegant — what the Italians might describe as “la semplicità è l’ultima sofisticazione”… simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Accommodation is arranged for eight guests in four cabins, including a full-beam owner’s suite on the main deck and an exceptionally spacious VIP cabin below that rivals the master for size. Two additional guest cabins complete the layout, while separate crew quarters forward accommodate up to four crew. Outdoor spaces are equally impressive. The cockpit offers shaded dining with clever movable seating, while the expansive flybridge becomes the social heart of the yacht with a full bar, dining area, sun loungers and an additional helm station for open-air cruising. With a large tender garage, generous bow lounge and the performance expected from a Riva, NOI represents a compelling opportunity for anyone looking for a stylish, high-performance yacht in the highly sought-after 90-foot range.
