I rebuilt the data from yet another failed CD that I committed all my memories to 25 years ago. It goes to show you that how important moments in time are. I needed something to store seasonal clothes and blankets in and thought of another trunk. I came across a pristine Secor Champion Wall Trunk from 1903 and doled out the cash in a blink of an eye. These trunks are highly sought after and I was lucky to get this one, and the best part, there was nothing that had to be fixed or restored. The M.M. Secor Trunk Company was a major late-19th-century trunk and traveling bag manufacturer in Racine, Wisconsin, founded in 1861 by Bohemian immigrant Martin Mathias Secor (1841–1911). Known for producing durable, stylish trunks like the "Champion Wall Trunk," the company became one of the largest in the Midwest. M.M. Secor trunks are highly prized by antique collectors, often recognized by their specialized nailhead trim, embossed metal panels, and robust construction. And like all trunks, they carried a history. What stories could this one tell? Who owned it? Where had it traveled? What treasures once rested inside? Some answers were written on the trunk tray. A rare find indeed. I’m escaping the world. 🌍

In this episode, we arrive in Socotra during the day, but rather unusually, we have to wait until 9pm before we can officially check in. Most immigration offices would be long closed by then, but here things work a little differently! The following morning, we set off on the first day of our tour around this incredible and remote island. We visit Flamingo Pond, discover the strange and fascinating Socotra Bottle Trees, and head into Kalisan Canyon (White Canyon) for a swim in its crystal-clear, emerald-green water. We then make our way to Arher Beach, where massive sand dunes rise dramatically above the coastline, before finishing the day with a local dinner with our host and guides. Day two takes us to the iconic Socotra Dragon Blood Trees, including a visit to a Dragon Tree nursery where we learn just how incredibly slowly these unique trees grow. Jo meets some young local boys and gives them books and pencils, which are met with very eager hands and plenty of smiles. We have lunch at Wadi Dirhur (Dixam Gorge), sharing the experience with some very friendly goats and curious Egyptian vultures, before continuing along the coast to see the abandoned Soviet-era T-34 tanks rusting beside the road. We finish the day with a swim at the spectacular Detwah Lagoon before heading back into town to pick up some provisions. Shopping turns into another adventure, with the local currency unavailable from ATMs and US dollars only accepted if they are essentially brand-new, large-denomination notes! Tuesday dawned with a superb south easterly breeze already in place, so the fleet launched through the waves on Tenby’s north beach into a sizeable swell ready for racing. The wind direction allowed for a start far closer to the shore, which meant the many holidaymakers with their buckets and spades could see the fleet actually racing, rather than going to and fro from the promenade to the water. Diz a lenda que o próprio Giuseppe Garibaldi teria feito um reparo em seu barco ali. Hoje, Divino e seus filhos são os guardiões de técnicas de construção artesanal passadas de geração em geração, uma parte fundamental da cultura náutica brasileira. Mas este lugar histórico não vive apenas do passado. Ele se tornou um porto seguro para velejadores modernos com desafios extremos, como Ricardo e Marga, do veleiro Mago del Sur. Um gigante de aço com 60 pés e 25 toneladas, projetado e construído para fazer charters na Antártida. Eles encontraram no estaleiro do Divino o lugar ideal para a manutenção: "tranquilo, água doce, não há muitos lugares onde se possa trabalhar no barco (...) como aqui". Dänische Südsee „light“ Aktueller Stand: 2026 Wieder einmal sind wir mit der „FeO“ unterwegs in der dänische Südsee – jenes Revier, das von den Dänen so treffend das dänische Inselmeer genannt wird. Diesmal erleben wir die schönsten Szenen aus zwei Sommerreisen: Es geht in die alte Schifferstadt Marstal, auf die idyllische Insel Birkholm und in die Märchenstadt Æroskøbing. Wir besuchen die beliebten Inseln Drejø und Lyø, das historische Handelsstädtchen Faaborg und schließlich die kleine Marina Mommark, bevor der Kurs wieder zurück in den Heimathafen führt. Herumtreiben im geschützten Wasser der südfünischen Inselwelt, das zwecklose Genießen des Bordlebens, beschauliche Inseln, Dörfer und Städte mit ihren schmucken Häusern und ehrwürdigen Kirchen und letztlich die Pausen bei Kaffee oder einem guten Glas im dänischen Alltag, das sind die eigentlichen Ziele des Törns – Urlaub machen, segeln vor der Haustür. Man muss schon eine Auswahl treffen und im nächsten Jahr wiederkommen, so vielfältig und abwechslungsreich ist die Inselwelt in diesem geschützten Revier. We leave our anchorage near Nafpaktos and sail downwind across the Gulf of Corinth towards the small Greek island of Trizonia. The sailing is easy and enjoyable all the way, with the wind behind us as we make our way across the Gulf of Corinth. When we arrive at Trizonia, we discover something every sailor loves - a free spot in the island's small marina! After settling in, we leave Indara and explore Trizonia on foot, wandering around the island and taking a water taxi across to the mainland. We also walk to the beautiful and unusual Red Beach, one of the highlights of our visit.
