From the stunning beaches and lively streets of San Vito Lo Capo to Sicily’s rugged northern coast, we’re reminded exactly why we chose the liveaboard sailing life. But the biggest surprise comes in Termini Imerese... While heading back to Rúna, we spot a yacht sitting on the harbour wall that we instantly recognise. The 56-metre superyacht Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Sicily near Porticello during a violent storm in August 2024, tragically claiming seven lives. After being raised from almost 50 metres below the Mediterranean Sea, Bayesian was brought to Termini Imerese, where the investigation into the sinking continues. Seeing the Bayesian yacht up close was a sobering reminder of just how powerful and unpredictable the sea can be. Day 5 aboard the FPY 70S brought us into Portimão — and officially to the end of my part of her journey to Cannes. After several days of mixed conditions, Day 5 gave us something similar, and we spent much of the day motoring. Ironically, we ended up crossing paths with a Fountaine Pajot Samana 59 along the way and cruised alongside her for a while — which made for some pretty incredible drone footage. Once we arrived in Portimão, the owners of the 59 very kindly took our crew out for dinner — a great way to wrap up our final night together after five days aboard. I filmed the last part of this reel the following morning — Day 6 — just before disembarking and heading home. My time aboard may be over for now, but Hull #1 still has some miles ahead of her as she continues toward Cannes, where I’ll reunite with her in just a few weeks for her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival. If you’ve been following this journey, don’t go anywhere — there’s plenty more to come. I’ll be sharing more from the FPY 70S before and during Cannes, including a closer look at the finished boat and everything we learned from these first days at sea. 10 days. Tomorrow is inspection day, which means today is basically: EVERYTHING. EVERYWHERE. ALL AT ONCE. 😂 Showgirl needs to be ready, everything needs to be where it should be, and hopefully by the end of tomorrow I get the thumbs up to go on this slightly crazy adventure around the world. Today we adjusted the mainsheet so I can control it from both sides, secured the spinnaker poles on deck, installed the boom brake, which I am still figuring out but WILL know how to use properly before I leave 😂, and kept working on the solar panels. And they look SO good. We also cleaned because... wow. The boat was a mess. There are tools everywhere, things moving on and off the boat, jobs being finished and another million things happening around me. But we're getting there. Tomorrow I find out if everything we've been working towards actually ticks all the boxes in that very, very important rule book. So now I cross my fingers, keep working, and hope Showgirl passes her exam. 🤞 10 days until I sail solo, non-stop around the world.
