We are releasing DAILY videos this week of our 1,500 mile voyage south. On Days 4 and 5 we finally sailed out of the heavy winds and found calm conditions. OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red 2014 Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. It was designed and built to withstand the stress of sailing multiple times around the world safely and in comfort. It's also a speed demon, which is important when you want to cover large distances of water before the weather changes. Lastly, it's backed by the manufacturer with outstanding customer service and aftermarket support, so we believe she will hold her value well. And, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then on to the Panama Canal.  At the time of posting this we are dealing with a repair in the South Pacific, and in 2020 we hope to be in New Zealand and Southeast Asia. By 2021 we will be in the Med and close to completing our circumnavigation. We sail from Culabrita to the famous sister island of Culebra. Explore the popular Flaminco Beach. Climb around the graffiti painted US Navy Tanks that remain washed up on shore. Sail off to the chain of Spanish Islands on the coast of Western Puerto Rico and spend a day touring the historic Old San Juan just before sending our family back home. But now it was time for us to prep for our longest passage yet and sail across the Mona Passage for Turks & Caicos. We had kept one family member,my sister Jacqueline, on board to help with the crossing. We had a 3 day passage from Mayaguez, PR to Turks & Caicos, a total of 400 nautical miles so having her along helped with the shifts! There was so much to see and do on Marble Island that I couldn't fit it all into one video, so here's a follow up. We experienced some bad weather while there so had to duck around to Hunter Island where it was more sheltered. Had a lovely time exploring the rock pools at low tide and reaped the rewards from Sally's amazing garden. Thank you once again Craig and Sally for your wonderful hospitality. First commissioned in Sydney by the Australian Catalina agent, this yacht was destined to be special. The 470 offers a level of performance, comfort and safety that effectively raises the bar for the entire cruising category. Her shallow draft version with a 1.8 m lead wing keel allows for safe easy cruising into areas not usually accessed by other 47’ Monohulls. As the owner’s version her two cabin layout allows a palatial master suite with ensuite and a forward Pullman double with separate heads and shower in the bow. Her ‘U’shaped galley with fridge and small freezer is perfect for long offshore passages or entertaining guests in numbers. Four big self tailing winches are located around the cockpit, one of which is electric. Her Leisure Furl in boom and fully battened main allow easy sailing (and hoisting). Her sail handling lines are all brought back to her big cockpit which features the legendary princess seats aft and huge cockpit table with drink storage. Her second owner bought her less than three years ago and has spared no expense to update this fabulous blue water passage maker, leaving you to benefit from all the work and expenses. Her Panda generator will run the air-conditioning and allow power generation of the wharf, supported with her 2018 installed solar panels and 540 Amp/ Hr Lithium batteries. New too is the Victron Battery Charger/ Inverter (2018) with smart controllers, which will even run the 120 ltr/ hr Salvan Watermaker of the batteries. Other interior upgrades include: electric toilets (with new hoses) to both heads, with salt/freshwater flush to the aft Tecma head (2018); All electrical galley appliances and TV and Fusion stereo (2018); All Saloon seats and reclining chairs re-upholstered (2018); Hot water calorifier (2017). On deck the upgrades include: all Stainless Steel Rigging (2019), Running Rigging (2018), with all halyards Dyneema; Preventer system for boom (2018); Ultra Stainless Steel anchor with new chain (2017); Anchor well deck wash (2018); Raymarine RMK -10 Keypad ( 2018) for the Raymarine A12 Plotter.
