It's always surprising how much work it takes to make a passage - even between the closely spaced island groups of the Bahamas. This video shows all of the preparations we make as we stage for our crossing from Egg Island in Eleuthera to Little Harbour Cut in the Abacos. Tambi has always struggled with seasickness. Even Molly has been affected to a lesser extent. The only seasickness medicine we keep onboard is Dramamine. While it does work for Tambi, it also completely knocks her out. We need to find something that works well, but also doesn't keep her from being able to help with the boat while we're underway. Maybe Bonine? We'll see. Enjoy! With only four points between Alinghi and Oman Air going into day three at the Riva Cup, the battle is heating up nicely. Find out what the skippers have to say.
Lago di Garda was not making it easy for race officials on day two of the GC32 Riva Cup, the penultimate event of the 2019 GC32 Racing Tour. The afternoon southerly Ora wind was late materialising and required three changes of race course and a frustrating two hour wait before the wind finally blasted in at 15+ knots some four kilometres south of Riva del Garda. After this three races with reaching starts were eventually held, the wind progressively dropping off as the afternoon wore on and holes in the race course began to appear close to the leeward gate and the boats were returned to the Fraglia Vela Riva marina. “Friday 13th” they muttered by way of explanation, but in Italy 13 is not unlucky.

We left Havannah Pass, New Caledonia in the late afternoon to time the tide to give us a few extra knots. Wind was against us for a while then eventually came around onto our beam for a good sail. It blew from the north west to the east over the duration of the passage, enabling us to sail all but the final 3 hours to Tanna. We arrived in Port Resolution, Tanna on Saturday and had to wait until the Monday for Customs Clearance. The Customs arrived on the Monday and cleared us and another boat in, gave us an Inter Island Permit which we had to take to Port Vila. The only thing they didn't do was Quarantine which we did in Port Vila two weeks later ( a bit bizarre!) We met the Chief, Werry his wife Monique and brother Stanley who were very friendly and helpful. Our visit up to the volcano was delayed for a few days because of the overcast weather conditions. We also had a few days that we had to sweep the decks of the boat to get rid of the black volcanic ash. The trip up to the volcano is quite expensive (10,000vatu = $130AUS) each but when you consider its the most accessible volcano in the world and compare it to some other attractions around the world its good value. I don't know anywhere else where you would be able to walk around the rim of a live volcano and observe the forces of nature. There are a few rickety handrails in some spots, not many. It was a very windy day and some of the rumbles knocked you back on your feet. We made our ascent at 4pm observing the volcano during the day and experiencing the transition into night with the erupting lava lighting up the night sky. We eventually left at 7pm very happy to have had such a wonderful experience.

I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.
We've done steam bent frames for the majority of Arabella, now, in the stem and the stern, it's time to make some sawn frames. Where the bow and stern come in to the centerline timbers, the shape of the hull is fairly sharp. Steam bending frames in these areas would not be very easy nor ideal. Not only are they very short, which would make them difficult to bend, but they also would have to have some sever twist in them. Because of this, making single sawn frames for the bow and the stern were a better idea in our minds. This gave us the opportunity to test our hand at making sawn frames. Making patterns, finding timber with curved grain to cut them from and then shaping them before installing them back in their place with a different kind of bronze floor. In this video we explain our process for picking up patterns and making the frames. In the next episode we will show more of the work being done organically. Hope you enjoy and thank you for the support! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Facebook M Jambo Sailing www.mjambo.de

TRAILER... A film by Antoine Muraccioli, French celebrity and world sailor. Full film: 58:22 (French and Italian versions included.) Antoine takes you on a intimate tour of Tahiti and the Leeward Islands - the iconic South Pacific Polynesian destination for adventurous bluewater sailors. ************************************************** AVAILABLE WITH A SAILFLIX.COM SUBSCRIPTION https://www.sailflix.com/once-upon-an-island-tahiti-and-the-leeward-islands **ALERT: the full film contains some brief scenes of nonsexual nudity** Watch the Once Upon an Island series with Antoine on SailFlix.com to visit the most beautiful islands on our oceans. https://www.sailflix.com/once-upon-an-island-with-antoine ************************************************** Part of the Society Islands including Moorea and the Leewards, Tahiti was first visited by European explorers more than two and a half centuries ago, Accompany Antoine on a tour of modern Papeete's, Tahiti's capital. Next circle the island by helicopter, experiencing incredible vistas from soaring jagged mountains with plunging waterfalls to reef-lined turquoise lagoons perfect for a remote anchorage. Then fly deep into the forested and mountainous heart of the island. From Tahiti, Antoine takes you to the island of Moorea lying a few miles to the west. It's protected lagoons are home to many tropical bungalow-style resorts and provide peaceful anchorages for bluewater sailors. Moorea offers several large deep bays for delightful sails and even more protected anchorages. A fly over of the island provides a spectacular contrast between jagged forested peaks and shoreline reefs and lagoons. A stop at the Tiki Village Theatre brings you back in time as islanders live in the style of their ancestors, host Polynesian feasts, and perform traditional fire dances. Antoine completes his visit with a underwater dive that reveals spectacular footage of sea life populating the island's reefs. Traveling 100 miles northwest of Tahiti, Antoine takes us to the leeward islands. These include the main island of Raiatea, and the smaller islands of Tahaa, Huahine, and Bora-Bora. Antoine continues aerial circumnavigations, dropping in for land visits. On Raiatea he visits several excellent marinas, a major charter fleet base, and one of the South Pacific's best marine service facilities for haul-outs and repairs. Much of Roiatea’s coastline has a shallow draft lagoon with multiple unspoiled anchorages. Aerial views are incredible allowing you to see the scale of the island's geography. From Raiatea Antoine’s next stop is nearby Tahaa. Perhaps the island that entices sailors to "disappear" into the South Pacific paradise. Ringed by a protective reef with small barrier islets, Raiatea also has deep coves and bays for extended stays at anchor. Several bluewater sailors have settled here with some creating boutique micro resorts. Antoine takes us to a marine sanctuary dedicated to saving sea turtles, and to farm in the interior that grows and processes the world's best vanilla beans. Next, Antoine's takes us to the leeward island of Huahine and its small companion island, Huahine Iti separated by a narrow channel and bridge. A fly over of the main island reveals the long protective reef with it's deep water lagoon. Antoine points out his favorite anchorage as the aerial view reveals the island's large protected bay. Antoine's final stop is Bora-Bora, the most famous of the Leeward Islands. Bora-Bora is home to both beautiful anchorages and small bungalow resorts. It's also home to several international artists and local crafts are abundant. The lifestyle is very laid back. Bora-Bora hosts the world famous Polynesian bar and seafood restaurant, Bloody Marys visited by countless celebrities. And there is the long line of famous French solo sailors who have make a port call. The aerial views are spectacular showing this green island jewel setoff by turquoise lagoons surrounded by the deep blue Pacific ocean. Ahoy, come aboard and join us on the slow sail across the sea of cortez. We left our kite and windsurf heaven ZERO BAY behind and had an awesome sail to Puerto Refugio, on the northern tip of Isla Angel de la Guarda. We had very light wind but the spinnaker did its job and slowly pulled us to our destination. BUT to keep us busy we found a Sea Lion right next to the boat and of course jumped into his world to played with him.. enjoy our latest episode and make sure you leave a like and hit the subscribe button.. aloha fay + christian please send us a like and subscribe to our channel.. mahalo if you feel like supporting this project and our videos, here is your chance.. http://www.sy-zero.de/wp/spend-us-a-drink/ please support us and become a Patreon..: http://www.patreon.com/sailingZERO find more Videos and Information about ZERO or get in contact with us here..: ..our blog: http://www.sailingZERO.com ..facebook..: http://www.facebook.com/syZERO ..instagram..: http://instagram.com/sailingZERO ..google +..: http://plus.google.com/u/0/+SYZERO/posts syZERO Music by www.Audionautix.com, www.Bensound.com, www.purple-planet.com and others.. We embark on a road trip, 5,000 kilometers journey from Vancouver to Montreal and encounter a few bumps along the way. We get creative at finding the best free campsite in some amazing places. We check out some great spots in Canada and the US and face a major thunderstorm while on the road. Eric visits his family for the first time in almost three years, and sailing in Montreal proves to be a little bit colder than in Mexico. Made possible by you! Hello Friends, This is a bonus video this week! I recently paid for my captains license training and received the hardcopies of all the study guides and reference material and the plotting tools and chart that will be needed for the test and wanted to open it for the first time with y'all! I am testing for the 25/50 Ton Masters license with the Sail Auxiliary endorsement. I decided to go with the Mariners Learning System (even though I continually call it Institute on the video). I have no affiliation to the company I just researched and reviewed the Captains Training websites and theirs seemed to fit what I thought would be best for me. You can find out more about them here: https://www.marinerslearningsystem.com/ After I finished the courses and get my Captains License I will likely do a follow up video talking about my experiences with the process. I hope this encourages some of you out there that are considering making the jump to getting your captains license! Thanks for watching! We sail to another beautiful island, one that is visited by less than 3 cruisers every year. On the way, we tow the dinghy and Margarida notices a problem. While still sailing she spiderwoman's across fixes the problem all at 5 knots. Payadus Island is paradise for us. We have lunch with a Guna Indian in his hut but as the sun starts to go down the anchorage becomes even more rolley so we head to Tigre Island (a traditional village) to sleep but check out the island before the sunset. In this episode we sailed through some nice winds, heeling us over more than we have ever experienced in some Atlantic swell which had crept up the channel... We headed out of port in Plymouth, anchored in Salcombe and ended the journey in Brixham where I bashed the boat into the pontoon like an idiot. We are releasing DAILY videos this week of our 1,500 mile voyage south. Today we release Days 7 and 8, which brought us ideal conditions for blasting south. After days of motoring the wind slowly clocked up. First we had our Spinnaker out, then full sail. By nightfall we were reefed as deep as we could get. The storm was getting closer and so were the winds. Day 9 is going to be interesting! POSTING DAILY ON SOCIAL: https://www.instagram.com/the_sailing_family/ https://www.facebook.com/the-sailing-family-voyage/ ----------------- ABOUT US: WE ARE THE SAILING FAMILY! Welcome aboard. We are a family of five sailing around the world on our "dream boat," a performance catamaran named "Archer." Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed a Lagoon 380 named "Honeymoon" halfway around the world from the East Coast of the US to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences with family and friends via YouTube, and by happenstance created the first "sailing channel." But more than anything, we realized what an incredible experience that first trip was and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with our kids. We want to share with them the importance of taking time to be with family. To show them a world outside of the one they grew up in. We want them to appreciate how lucky we are to experience (and to care for) the natural beauty of this world. But mostly we want to spend time with our kids during these formative years and create lasting memories as a family. That's why we are "The Sailing Family." ABOUT EACH OF US: SETH learned to sail with his family on Lake St. Clair, Michigan when he was 12. Later in life he raced on multiple one-design boats in the San Francisco Bay and in Cape Cod. But the dream of sailing around the world really took hold during a bareboat vacation to the BVIs with his family when he saw other cruisers living and traveling full time aboard their sailboats. All he needed now was a willing partner and co-captain! In 2008, Seth & Elizabeth got married and for their honeymoon they bought a boat, named her "Honeymoon" and the rest is history! ELIZABETH was new to sailing when they started off, but she's always loved to travel. 25,000 nautical miles later she is now an accomplished sailor, and despite being prone to seasickness, she values the experiences she can share with her boys. During their first trip she came up with the idea of Vacay, a resort-wear clothing brand perfect for sailors as all her items are designed to mix-and-match to create multiple looks. 5 items can create up to 15 outfits! It's been so successful that she quit her job at GAP Inc and now works full-time from the boat to build her business. Check out www.vacaystyle.com and support her if you can. OUR BOYS were a little reluctant to leave our home in Mill Valley, CA, but now that we are in the groove we plan to keep going. They miss their friends but also appreciate the life experiences they are gaining. Hale loves baseball, Rhys is our Lego engineer and Pierce's nickname is "Pierce-Fierce" (as we think he's been raised by wolves). They're great kids and best friends, which makes living on a boat with them a true joy. OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red 2014 Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. It was designed and built to withstand the stress of sailing multiple times around the world safely and in comfort. It's also a speed demon, which is important when you want to cover large distances of water before the weather changes. Lastly, it's backed by the manufacturer with outstanding customer service and aftermarket support, so we believe she will hold her value well. And, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then on to the Panama Canal. At the time of posting this we are dealing with a repair in the South Pacific, and in 2020 we hope to be in New Zealand and Southeast Asia. By 2021 we will be in the Med and close to completing our circumnavigation. THANKS for watching all. Please leave a comment to tell us what you think and let us know if you have questions. (Ep.95) Look at our pretty neighbors and their Schooner. (Added a nostalgia around the marina this past week) We get down to tackling the condensation we have been having on the boat this past winter. Its no fun because our mattresses end up getting soaked from the water that's dripping from the deck down onto them so we get down to insulating our decks and tick another item off our list which is our window shades. The boat is so much cooler now with the shades on when it's a hot day so I know we'll love it in the tropics! What's left on our list you may ask?? 1. Water-maker Installation 2.Install the engine 3.Name goes on 4.Get a life raft & do all the safety equipment 5.Epoxy hull before anti fouling 6. Anti fouling goes on See ya next week!! DIY SOLAR ARCH INSTALL on our Liveaboard Sailboat! And the CAPTAIN HAS A BIRTHDAY! This week our modifications and preparations for sailing the world ramp as we take delivery of our new semi-custom solar/dinghy arch from Atlantic Towers. This is a huge and important addition for us to be able to live autonomously and easily haul our dinghy as well. It requires a lot of steps and some pretty interesting rigging off the back of the boat to hoist it up there. Also, Happy Birthday to Captain Eric! Enjoy!! SAILING OFF GRID to a REMOTE DESERTED ISLAND A huge thank you to those who help keep our boat afloat by supporting our creative process via Patreon. You can be part of the crew for less than the price of a coffee. https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis South Minerva Reef is as remote and off grid as is possibly gets and our sanctuary for this weeks vlog. For over 40 years the Minervas, two limestone based coral formations elevated by now dormant volcanic activity have had their sovereignty fought over. For us and the many sharks who live here there was little to suggest that any trouble was brewing. It is truly a beautiful place to visit. The underwater life is incredible ( we don't do it justice in our vlog) and the water is crystal clear. A welcome place for a stop over on our journey north. Despite not finding a single crayfish during our stay we are hooked on this place.
When it comes to muck diving in Lombok, Kecinan (INDONESIA) is the best with the additional benefit of experiencing a totally nontouristy bay where you will only find the locals. There is nothing like the challenge of searching for animals in the silt, among the garbage, and in the small bommies. The keen eye is rewarded and the poorly buoyant are punished. We prefer diving on Lombok in comparison to the Gili’s. There are some good sites at the Gili’s but most dive groups go to the “famous” sites which are not our faves; it’s all about a big bang for your buck and making your inexperienced divers happy. We recommend diving in Lombok and the island is also beautiful! If you want to dive with Lombok-Dive and Herman, email them at info@lombok-dive.com. Make sure to click the following link to watch Episode 25 where we visit Herman's earthquake torn village and home and experience his wonderful hospitality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yh-J9WMbAY&t=525s #china #chinalifestyle #chinalife #qingdao #lombok #indonesia #scubadiving #scubadivinglife NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Earlier this year The RAF Yacht Club, asked us to shoot a promotional video about their club. A brave marketing move to open the doors of one of the UK's most famous yacht clubs in the search for new members. Based on the famous River Hamble, it's known as the friendliest yacht club on the south coast of England and you don't have to fly a Spitfire to join. If you're thinking of joining a yacht club or you're just nosey - then take a look at our latest video - you'll be surprised what happens behind the gates of the RAF Yacht Club. Or if you're at the Southampton Boat Show - you'll find them on Stand J148. We've now crashed through the 3.2 million viewers on our channel - so a massive thanks to you all out their who keep tuning in. As always copyright Bob Aylott, MCB and The RAF Yacht Club. Music Pip De Ste Croix and Dave Houghton. But the big news for our viewers is. The RAF YC are the new hosts of the Hamble Classics Regatta. Which is fast becoming one of the most popular gatherings of classics in the UK.

The Hans Christian 33 and 41 are two of my all-time favorite boats because they are pure. They are true heavy-displacement cruising vessels and make no compromises. They were expertly designed, built, and laid out for a cruising couple or small family, and will take you ANYWHERE in comfort and safety. The charm of the old school woodwork, bronze fixtures, and "shippy" lines make this boat truly unique. Hans Christians hold their value, and are frequently listed and sold for over 100,000 USD when they're in good shape. At only $59,900, this one needs a bit of work, but for the right buyer not afraid of some DIY, they could have a beautiful and valuable go-anywhere cruiser after a refit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you make an informed decision on your next boat with this tool: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you're interested and would like more information, the contact info for Norm, the broker, is listed below: 813-495-0370 norm.yachtsales@gmail.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthel...
