It's something that I've often thought about.... What would you do if you got a breech in your hull and started taking on water? We got to practice in a real life scenario when a boat dropped their hook super close to Delos and asked for our assistance. We have an emergency! We’re taking on water! Yelled the boat that just dropped it’s hook right next to us. By the time we arrived the water was nearly to the top of their port engine, dangerously close to the air intake and already seeping through the holes in their bulkhead. We immediately sprung into action with our crash pump, and one from another boat as well. It turns out the boat had struck something trying to leave the anchorage, which bent the rudder back and caused a breach in their hull. With a make-shift repair we were were able to slow the leak enough to give us enough time for a salvage boat to arrive with bigger pumps. Tarawa was our first stop in Kiribati. We had to do the clearance in a town called Betio and when we went ashore we got chocked. So much plastic and garbage! That was very sad to see. After an epic, 800 mile, 7 day ocean crossing from St Martin, we finally arrived in Bermuda! Swapping bikinis and shorts for jackets and jeans took a bit of getting used to but after 9 days at sea we were pretty eager to get to land and explore... flat land also took a bit of getting used to! We both really liked Bermuda almost instantly, me more so I think as it reminded me of home! We were also lucky to arrive 2 days prior to Bermuda Day, a street parade showing the traditional Gombey dancing. After having a bit of fun on the island, we got to work moving some weight around the boat as we noticed the boat was nosediving into the waves on the way up. Our engine vibration problem that we felt on the way to Bermuda was easier to solve… in fact in pretty much just disappeared! Much to the annoyance of Adam who’s inner engineer HATED not having a resolution! So with most of the big jobs out of the way and no clear weather window to leave, Ads grabbed his spear and with Kenny, our friend from Sea Dogs, went out to catch us some fish nugget dinner! The Dominican Republic takes a little getting used especially driving with a ton of motorbikes everywhere and slightly looser use of the "rules of the road" that we are used to. Food prices in the Dominican Republic seem much cheaper than the states and the Bahamas which is amazing. We are releasing DAILY videos this week of our 1,500 mile voyage south. Today we release Days 2 & 3 as we cross over the Gulfstream. We tried to time our departure to sneak over with following wind and seas, but there was so much wind the sea state remained challenging. It was a bit of a disastrous start. Cruising life isn't all sunshine and umbrella drinks - sometimes it's hanging out on the rail with a bowl to throw up in... To be honest, we were surprised by how violent the conditions were and how long it took everyone to get their sea legs. Even Marc, our crew member and friend who came to help, sailed all the way around the world in his boat and never threw up, but he did on this passage. It was one for the books and we were glad to see everyone could stay hydrated. A medical issue was a major concern. ELIZABETH was new to sailing when they started off, but she's always loved to travel. 25,000 nautical miles later she is now an accomplished sailor, and despite being prone to seasickness, she values the experiences she can share with her boys. OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red 2014 Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. It was designed and built to withstand the stress of sailing multiple times around the world safely and in comfort. It's also a speed demon, which is important when you want to cover large distances of water before the weather changes. Lastly, it's backed by the manufacturer with outstanding customer service and aftermarket support, so we believe she will hold her value well. And, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then on to the Panama Canal.  At the time of posting this we are dealing with a repair in the South Pacific, and in 2020 we hope to be in New Zealand and Southeast Asia. By 2021 we will be in the Med and close to completing our circumnavigation. Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon

She still feels like a million dollar yacht today, but she costs MUCH less to purchase now. Voici le cinquième épisode d'une modeste présentation de nos 50 jours consécutifs passés à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain en 2019. Nous répétons le même scénario depuis plusieurs années, mais nous n'avions jamais pris le temps de documenter et surtout, de présenter notre expérience. Nous naviguons à 4 (2 adultes, 2 enfants en bas âge) sur un Hunter 30 Cherubini 1980 que nous avons remis à notre goût ces dernières années. Nous tenons habituellement de 8 à 9 jours avec notre réservoir d'eau et le réservoir d'eaux noires. Cette année, nous avons hissé les voiles chaque jour pour lesquels nous avons navigué. Nous avons parcouru une distance totale de 610 miles nautiques sur le fond et consommé 32 litres de diesel en 7 semaines. la plus grande distance parcourue sur le fond fut de 35,2 miles nautiques en près de 7 hrs 30. Il n'y a eu qu'une seule journée entière de pluie... notre vitesse de croisière se situe aux alentours de 5 noeuds. Nous espérons inspirer ceux qui doutent du plaisir que l'on peut avoir à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain avec une jeune famille et partager quelques'uns de nos mouillages et des quelques moments de bonheurs passés sur l'eau.
