Exploring Fiji's Northern Lau Stairs, SNAKES and Sunday Lunch. Stairs, SNAKES and Sunday Lunch. This week, we hike the longest staircase in Fiji, before heading around the East coast of Vanua Balavu to Lomaloma in order to re -stock a few bits and bobs in the larder. After a quick stop, we continue around to the sheltered anchorage in front of Susui village. As is the custom, we once again present our sevusevu to the chief and are warmly encompassed into the lives of the locals. Jacob, the village headman, invites us for Sunday lunch, and we enjoy a fabulous meal of delicious island specialities. We also find a small, but slippery stowaway on a friends dinghy After two weeks , we sadly have to wave farewell to take advantage of a beautiful weather window to sail south towards Fulaga and the Southern Lau. As we come to the end of our first sailing, cruising season, we approach the mouth of the Rio Dulce in Guatemala. Here, WE will spend the next three months tucked away in this cruiser haven and hurricane hole. We check out of Belize and arrive to the port town of Livingston, where we check into the country and cruise up the sweet river about 22 miles inland towards Lago Izabal and dock up to secluded eco-hotel and marina called Boatique. We will call this place home for the following months and look forward to exploring inland of the country. BioTrek arrives in Las Palmas and we get ready for ARC 2019 (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers). ARC activities include helping a Canary Island re-forestation project, opening ceremonies, and safety demos such as setting off flares, and helicoper rescue. A busy week!
