Building a cruising sailboat It's all about cladding the lazarette hatch cover this week - I thought I'd concentrate on one particular piece of this week's build. The hatch is clad with thin strip planks of black locust, epoxy glued to the sub structure. This video shows the entire process, step by step. At the end of this video, the piece is nearing completion, just needing a final fill, a coat of epoxy and some varnish. The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time.
