Racing at Torbay Sailing Club gusting 25 knots on shore which provided some interesting waves to negotiate. All the Weta sailors really enjoyed the challenging conditions. Again the self tacking jib performed flawlessly but the skipper has work to do in the agility department. After watching Pete and Blair win the 49er Worlds nearby I have now fitted twin tiller extensions.

I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

It’s time we sail South! Me, Nat and friend Carlos set off to Santiago island, about 140 nautical miles from Mindelo Bay. We also say good by to our friends aboard Arka Kinari, who will make the passage across the Atlantic. For us, it’s typical Cape Verdean sailing conditions. Rough and sporty, and someone gets seasick. It took us about 24hrs to make the passage. At times hard, but all and all a good one. Galopin loved stretching his sails out on the open ocean, and I learned something from Carlos.

Making the 2,000 ft hike to the top of the mountain, we don't find any along the way, but do find a great anchorage to head to the next day. Rounding to the north side of the island with our boat, we can see swarms of puffins flying through the sky, and make the sunset hike to sit near their nesting grounds and watch them come in that night. Hands down, one of the most beautiful spots we have ever traveled to. Plus, we even get to end the night with a bonfire inside a cut little hut on the beach! La houle langoureuse du large nous berce déjà, l’esquisse est dépassée, le voyage a bien commencé…

Sous un fin croissant de lune, sur le pont tous les deux, nous attendons satisfaits, l’aurore. Le jour se lève sur l’atoll d’Entrecasteaux. Des milliers d’oiseaux survolent l’île Surprise ; les plus téméraires nous ont vu arriver de loin ; ils nous ont rejoint et planent maintenant au-dessus du mât, manquant sans cesse de se télescoper dans le haubanage. La nature esseulée nous fait l’honneur de nous accueillir. Nous jetons l’ancre dans le bleu pers de l’eau, seuls, complètement seuls, disposés à la robinsonnade …

L'île de Pico a été notre troisième étape. Point culminant des Açores (et du Portugal) avec 2351m, le mont Pico est visible depuis les autres îles. Sa stature est impressionnante et donne l'impression qu'il pourrait entrer en éruption à tout moment. Ce n'est bien sûr pas le cas. Malgré tout, les paysages sont faits de pierre volcanique et les maisons sont construites en lave au bord de l'océan. L'île est réputée pour son vin. De nombreuses vignes poussent sur ces terres rudes, protégées du vent par des murets. Le musée de la baleine relate le passé des Açores où la chasse aux cétacés a fait la richesse des pêcheurs. Deux heureux vacanciers au milieu de l'Atlantique sur des îles portugaises : les Açores Destinations mythiques des navigateurs, territoires sortis tout droit de l'imaginaire d'un poète, îles aux multiples facettes entourées d'un océan brut, les Açores sont magnifiques. Nous avons eu la chance de parcourir 5 des 9 îles qui composent cet archipel durant 3 semaines. Entre randonnées, plongées, visites des petits villages pittoresques, baignades dans des sources thermales, dégustations de plats locaux, nous en avons pris plein les yeux. Jetzt geht unser Weg weiter richtung Westen. Die nächsten 2 1/2 Jahre werden wir nutzen um den Pazifik zu durchqueren, den indonesischen Raum zu erkunden und letztendlich nach der Umrundung des Kap der guten Hoffnungen wieder Fuß auf europäisches Land zu setzen.
