Understanding Cavitation and Ventilation in Boat Propellers. Cavitation and ventilation are often confused but are crucial phenomena affecting boat propellers' performance. Ventilation occurs when surface air or exhaust gases enter the propeller blades, reducing thrust and increasing engine revolutions, leading to erratic handling and loss of control at high speeds. This usually happens when the propeller is too close to the surface, during tight turns, with a high-mounted engine, or due to poor propeller selection. Cavitation happens due to low pressure at the back of the propeller blade, causing water to boil and form vapor bubbles. Leaving the sailboat for a motorbike ride with the local "Gypsy Joker’s Moto Rides" group. I figured we'd stay dry.... nope! I didn't even know this was possible. Gotta love the Dominican Republic. And I mean that. This is a truly gorgeous country FILLED with wonderful, kind, and always smiling people. I'm still pretty new to riding motor bikes. But on this trip, it'd put everything I knew to the test, and taught me more than a few lessons along the way. I'm eternally grateful to have met the great people in this group. After an eye-catching maiden sail yesterday late in the afternoon, Orient Express Racing Team were seriously on-it today with an on-time dock-out and everyone super-keen to get thoroughly stuck into the commissioning process. Boy, they didn’t disappoint today, pushing the boat to speeds up to 40 knots and looking so balanced that the recon team asked whether they were using auto-pilot! Ep 92 - Aft Hatch Replacement Because of a recent rain storm, we found some serious leaks int he Aft Cabin. There is nothing worse that waking up and you are wet from the rain coming in… drip.. drip.. drip… We removed the old hatch and replaced it with a new one. The old one was sealed with 5200 so how it was leaking, we have no idea!
