Night boatmares, beach puppies, high-tech gadgets and… a bucket for a toilet. Just another totally normal episode of Sailing into Freedom. 😄⛵🐕 In this one we start on the beach in Vietnam, where Plucky has accidentally adopted a whole pack of dogs, before cutting to Boot Düsseldorf where Super Bart is touring some of the gear that’ll keep the Elcano cat safe and self-sufficient at sea: Raymarine / Teledyne FLIR mast-mounted thermal camera for 360° night vision Forward-looking sonar to spot reefs and bommies before we hit them Lewmar winches and windlass for serious sailing grunt Ocean Spring’s new ultra-quiet, energy-efficient DC watermaker, built in titanium for life offshore If you’re into bluewater cruising tech, liveaboard systems, gear nerding, boat show walk-throughs and the slightly unhinged humor of a sailor who’s chosen a bucket over a proper toilet, you’ll feel right at home here. #sailing #sailingintofreedom #boatlife #sailingvlog #elcanochallenge #bluewatercruising #liveaboard #boatshow #raymarine #flir #lewmar #watermaker Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! In this episode, we sail into Arenys de Mar, a small marina and coastal town we knew very little about before arriving. As is often the case in sailing life, we never quite know what to expect from these smaller stops — but Arenys de Mar surprises us in the best way. What was meant to be a quick two-day visit quickly turns into four as we settle into marina life, explore the town, and enjoy the relaxed local atmosphere. We wander the streets, soak up the charm of this Catalan seaside town, and catch up with fellow sailors we’ve met through Facebook and the wider cruising community. While we’re here, Helios finally gets a much-needed wash — always a satisfying job after weeks on the water — before we continue our journey down the Spanish coast. If you enjoy authentic sailing adventures, real cruising decisions, marina life, and discovering lesser-known coastal towns, this episode is for you. ⚓ In this episode: Sailing the Spanish coast Marina life in Arenys de Mar Exploring a small Catalan seaside town Meeting other cruising sailors Boat maintenance & giving Helios a proper wash Episode S03E41 Recorded: Late September 2025 Support Our Journey: 🔗 Check out www.sailinghelios.com for exclusive behind-the-scenes content 📸 Follow us on Instagram for updates: https://www.instagram.com/sailinghelios2023/ 📸 Follow us on Facebook for updates: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sailinghelios 4K Video Chapters: 00:00 Bugger, we forgot to stow the dinghy 03:54 Best docking ever! 09:08 Exploring Arenys de Mar 15:00 We forgot to leave 18:07 It's finished! 19:10 Washing the boat

We arrive in Longyearbyen by sail and immediately step into polar bear country. Armed hikes, abandoned coal mines and daily life at the edge of the Arctic — this is the unfiltered reality of Svalbard. After sailing 125 nautical miles through the High Arctic from Hornsund to Longyearbyen, navigating light winds, ocean swell and the constant challenge of ice detection. What begins as a calm overnight passage becomes a lesson in patience, seamanship and decision-making as the wind fades and the engine takes over for the final miles. Arriving in Longyearbyen, Svalbard reveals itself as a place of stark beauty and hidden complexity. Beyond the harbour and fjords lies a layered story of whalers, trappers and coal miners, shaped today by accelerating climate change and growing geopolitical importance. From abandoned mines and roaming reindeer to strict polar-bear safety rules, daily life here feels both fragile and resilient. This episode blends offshore sailing, Arctic navigation, and an honest look at how climate, history and politics intersect at the northern edge of Europe. Join us as we arrive in one of the world’s most remote settlements and begin exploring what it really means to live and sail in the High Arctic. ⏳ Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 01:04 Slow sailing to Longyearbyen 05:11 Exploring Longyearbyen and the Svalbard Museum 09:17 The abandoned hike to Sarkophagen 15:35 Gruve 3: we visit a real coal mine 🎵 Music from Epidemic Sound: Theme Of Nightmares by Fredrik Ekstrom The Seeds We Sow by David Celeste I'm The Villain by Dream Cave The Beauty Within by Sleeping Vines Into The Meridian by Rachel Sandy Image Copyright Attribution: Map “NATO in Europe”, © Clydiee, Licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons Svalbard Global Seed Vault, © Bjoertvedt, Licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons John Munro Longyear, © Michigan Art Company, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons #ExpeditionSvalbard #ArcticSailing #Longyearbyen #PolarBearCountry #SvalbardReality 🔗 Links: https://www.norwegiancruisingguide.com https://www.barentswatch.no/en https://www.yr.no/en 📺 Watch More… https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRvcLZL9-pokLoV22O1OP3p5eR32J-SDD 🚢 Subscribe & Hit the Bell 🔔 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAym9YS0z1-qYm-s47pNEfw?sub_confirmation=1 📍 Follow Our Journey: https://www.instagram.com/sailingpolaris https://www.facebook.com/sailingpolaris https://www.sailingpolaris.uk 🛥️ Ever dreamed of sailing the world? In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we wait at Great Exuma for hurricane Erin to pass us by before continuing our journey south. We lazily explore an unusually deserted, but gorgeous, Sand Dollar beach with lush trees overhanging the ocean and an empty anchorage. Numb fingers are officially out of style. ✋❄️ In this video, we’re taking a closer look at the new Zhik Superwarm Performance Gloves. If you've ever struggled to pull a line or uncleat a rope because your hands were frozen solid, these are the game-changer you need for winter and early-season racing. Designed specifically for high-intensity sailing in cold conditions, these gloves use Zhik's legendary Superwarm neoprene technology to keep the heat in without the "marshmallow" bulk of traditional winter gloves. What makes the Performance version different? 3mm Superstretch Neoprene: Premium insulation that actually lets your hands move. Fast-Drying Fleece Inner: Soft, warm, and won't stay soggy for your second race. GBS (Glued & Blind Stitched) Seams: Keeps the cold water out and the warmth in. Reinforced High-Grip Palm: A durable, studded pattern for maximum control, even when soaking wet. Whether you're helming a keelboat or hiking hard in a dinghy, these gloves are built to keep you performing until the final gun. This Yacht is for Sale: https://bit.ly/3ZJrLkA Become a NAUTI Member: https://bit.ly/NautiCrew Follow Us Building an Explorer Yacht @NautiGuys https://bit.ly/3yPe1Z5 We are so excited to bring you a tour of THE GARLIC, this 2003 Marlow 70E Explorer Yacht 😍 — a yacht that’s all about comfort, efficiency, and going the distance. The raised pilothouse gives amazing visibility, the salon is bright and super inviting, and the layout just makes sense if you actually plan to live aboard or cruise for long periods of time. It feels warm, practical, and very “real-world cruiser,” not flashy for the sake of it. Some of my favorite features are the easy flow throughout the interior, the great storage, and how solid and confidence-inspiring this yacht feels overall. Rico was totally in his element checking out the engine room and systems, and you can really tell this boat was designed by people who understand offshore cruising. If you love explorer yachts that prioritize range, comfort, and reliability, and you’re looking for something that truly feels like a home on the water, you’re going to enjoy this tour of THE GARLIC. For more details about RAY: https://www.northropandjohnson.com/yachts-for-sale/ray-107-numarine Contact: Deniz.Kaymaz@NorthropandJohnson.com RAY Yacht for Sale Length - 107' (32.63m) Builder - Numarine Build - 2025 Guests - 12 Cabins - 5 Crew - 6 Asking Price - €12,900,000 Meet RAY — a 2025 107’ (32.63m) Numarine 32XP EXPLORER YACHT built for owners who care more about where a yacht can take you than how she looks at the dock. She’s “nearly new”, with genuine long-range ability: 4,000 nautical miles at 8 knots — the kind of range that turns distant coastlines into realistic plans. Before we start the tour, let’s chat numbers: • 2025 Numarine 32XP | 107’ / 32.63m • Steel hull / aluminium build (per the script) • 299 GT | Beam 8.0m | Draft 2.71m • 13.8 knots top | 11 knots cruise • Low engine hours (approx. 335 in the script) Why this EXPLORER YACHT is different RAY isn’t just “an Explorer Yacht by name” — she’s configured with a real theme: extra capability, extra safety, extra access. • The only 32XP in the fleet with MCA LY3 , meaning yacht-specific safety and operational requirements were considered from the outset. • The only 32XP in the storyboard equipped with MAN 800hp Tier III engines with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) — more eco-minded and better positioned for environmentally controlled cruising regions. • Designed as a true explorer with exterior lines by Can Yalman. Walkthrough highlights (what you’ll see in this tour) SUNDECK (the star of the show) A huge open-air living deck with a proper bar setup (grill, ice-maker, multiple fridges), big dining, modular lounge seating, optional shade — and a dumbwaiter linking service from the galley. UPPER DECK AFT: toys + terrace in minutes A genuinely useful open-air “garage” zone: 7m RIB + two Jet Skis handled by a ~3-ton crane, then the deck becomes an open terrace when launched. UPPER DECK LOUNGE + WHEELHOUSE A secondary interior lounge with a custom bar (beer dispenser + seating), plus a proper explorer-style wheelhouse and an additional Pullman berth for watchkeeping. MAIN DECK SOCIAL FLOW Aft cockpit lounge with a service station, then inside: contemporary saloon, formal dining forward, and a “real galley” built for longer passages (including the dumbwaiter up to the sundeck). GYM ON THE MAIN DECK Air-conditioned, hull-side glass, sea views while you train — the kind of feature you normally don’t expect in this size bracket. OWNER + GUEST ACCOMMODATION Main-deck owner’s suite plus four guest cabins on the lower deck (convertible twins/doubles in the script), with practical storage and charter-friendly touches. BEACH CLUB Shaded lounge close to the water, with fridge + ice-maker (you’re not going to run out of ice on this boat), shower, swim platform and optional shade. The Queen Elizabeth 2 (fondly known as the QE2) was launched in 1967 was the last Cunard Queen built in the United Kingdom. Despite coming into service at the worst possible time for an ocean liner, The QE2 was a crowd favorite, earning an adoring fanbase that loves her to this day. Her incredible career spanned over four decades. She still survives today as a floating hotel in Dubai. Is this the ultimate owner-operator yacht for the Pacific Northwest? In this episode of YachtLens, we are in Seattle aboard the Horizon V68—a 70-foot skylounge motoryacht that feels closer to a 100-foot superyacht. I’m joined by Eli Arvidson from Horizon Yachts to break down why this vessel is specifically spec'd for serious cruising in the PNW. From the massive glass sections that bring the outside in, to the fully enclosed skylounge that acts as a second salon, we explore how this boat balances luxury with the practical realities of running a boat yourself. We also dive deep into the engine room to check out the twin CAT C18 ACERTs and ask the hard questions about range, build quality, and system redundancy. If you are looking for a yacht that a couple can handle comfortably from Seattle to Alaska, this walkthrough is for you. ⚓ Horizon V68 Specs & Info: https://horizonyacht.com/models/v/v68 ⚓ Horizon Yachts: https://horizonyacht.com CONTACT ELI ARVIDSON: For inquiries about the V68 or Horizon Yachts in the PNW: 📧 Email: eli@horizonyachtusa.com 📞 Horizon Yacht USA: +1 206-649-0253 SUBSCRIBE TO YACHTLENS: Don't miss our next honest yacht tour. Discovery lives in every scale. Some treasures are found by looking closer, in the quiet patience of muck dives where rare critters reveal themselves grain by grain. Others appear when you step back, as reefs rise wide and alive with colour and motion. Within the heart of the Coral Triangle, this is diving as it truly is layered, surprising and endlessly rewarding, inviting you to slow down, look closer and rediscover just how much there is to see. https://solitude.world/solitude-lembeh-resort/

Anchor Swivels: Caution Required: http://practical-sailor.com/sails-rigging-deckgear/anchor-swivels-caution-required Anchor swivels are everywhere. They’re shiny, expensive, and sold as a “must-have” upgrade for your anchoring system. But do they actually solve a real problem… or do they quietly introduce a dangerous new failure point? In this video, we dig into what reputable marine testing and real-world failures reveal about anchor swivels. We look at how and why swivels fail, what problems they’re supposed to fix, and whether most sailors actually need one at all. We’ll break down common swivel failure modes, side-loading issues, corrosion risks, and why many chain-twist problems are caused by retrieval technique, not missing hardware. You’ll also learn when a swivel might make sense, when it probably doesn’t, and what safer alternatives exist. If you anchor regularly, rely on your ground tackle for safety, or are considering adding an anchor swivel to your boat, this is one piece of gear you’ll want to understand before it fails. Go to https://surfshark.com/atticus or use code ATTICUS at checkout to get 4 extra months of Surfshark VPN! The first day of framing felt like being thrown into the deep end. I showed up thinking I had a decent handle on how this phase of the build would go. By the end of the day, I realized how much I didn’t know—and how fast a good crew can move when they know exactly what they’re doing. This episode is mostly me trying to keep up, asking a lot of questions, and learning more in one day than I ever have about how a building actually comes together. The guys were patient, funny, and incredibly skilled, and watching the load-bearing walls of the first floor go up this fast made the project feel real in a way it hadn’t yet. A continuation of the journey from Anacortes in October/November 2025. We depart Ensenada and still off for a few days in Magdelena Bay to experience a cornucopia of sea life experiences. We repair some electrical issues and meet up with a number of other Nordhavns for the 2025 Taco Run. Only we choose our own weather window. We left 2 days after the fleet and also stayed longer in Magdalena Bay to enjoy the area. Don't follow the crowd, follow your dreams. While cruising together is fun, it just did not fit our plan and read on the weather at the time.

We’ve been anchored in South Huahine for over a month and explored nearly every corner of the bay by snorkel—from Motu Vaiorea in the northwest to the reef at the Southern tip of the island. We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. Facing the challenges of solo sailing as a female sailor, I navigated the highs and lows of single-handed sailing while tackling DIY boat repair projects, from engine fixes to full boat refits on a budget. My life aboard was a mix of adventure and reflection, shaping an independent woman’s story of resilience, personal growth, and embracing the sailing lifestyle. Along the way, I became an ocean conservation activist with In Mocean, stumbled across my dog Boga, and discovered the joys and challenges of sailing with a dog. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. Together, we face the unique dynamics and challenges of sailing as a couple, balancing off-grid life, sustainable sailing, and the demands of long-term cruising. If you’re interested in remote sailing adventures, authentic sailing stories, and the realities of living on a sailboat, this channel offers a glimpse into the world of DIY projects, the sailing lifestyle, and life’s transformative moments on the water. ► We featured the Gunboat 72 in our test in Multihulls World #193; we find hull #2 here in Saint Martin: it's the largest multihull entered in the 2026 Caribbean Multihull Challenge. ► Layla, as she's called, is now a regular at the event… and so is her skipper. Our man is none other than Brian Thompson – the only British sailor to have completed four non-stop circumnavigations of the globe. ► The skipper, who warmed up by crossing the Atlantic in just 5 days aboard the MOD70 Argo, finds himself at the helm of a much heavier multihull, of course… Nevertheless, he positions his 72-foot vessel like a Hobie Cat, not hesitating to tack at the starting line. ► While the lighter multihulls managed to regain the lead in real time, it was still Layla that emerged victorious in corrected time at the awards ceremony that evening. The boss at the CMC? We continue west towards the coast. We end up at Fort Kochi, which is a very famous place. We take a good look around and stay in a wonderful little hotel. We find a great place to eat and have a pizza! We’ve had quite a few weeks of eating India food and it’s time for a break. We take a ride on a country boat but it fails in the middle of the massive channel, with ferries and large boats passing us. We end up on one of the ferries to get back to where we started! It’s quite an experience! Then it’s of to pick up our beautiful Kerala houseboat and spend a night out on the water. It’s wonderful. We also manage to get on another country boat and have a chance to see the smaller waterways of this beautiful place. That wraps up our drive across India. It’s then a quick flight to New Delhi for a day or to and onto London for new adventures… Thanks for watching.
