► A Small Spot for Multihulls in Miami! ► The 2026 edition of the Miami International Boat Show got off to a flying start. Under brilliant sunshine, I handed out all my Multihull of the Year stickers and banners — much to the delight of the builders present. Of the 36 nominees this year, 18 had made the trip, giving this new edition strong visibility from day one. ► As is often the case in Miami, the show layout has changed once again. This year, sailing multihulls were grouped together at Sailors’ Cove, at the IGY Marina on McArthur Causeway. This is now where you’ll find the main players in the sailing industry… even if they were fewer in number than in previous years. In just 30 minutes, my dock walk was complete. ► Those who did attend, however, came in force. @FountainePajot took the front line with four boats on display — including the new FP44 — along with two Dufour models, the only sailing monohulls at the show. @LeopardCatamaran, @BaliCatamarans (with three models), @EXCESSCatamarans (the 11 and the 13) completed the line-up among the major brands. Other notable appearances included the world premiere of the @aquilaboats 50 Sail, the striking @balancecatamarans 502 delivered straight from South Africa, as well as HeySea, @ChantierCATANA @HHCatamarans, @catamaransOutremer and @visionyachts_sa. On the charter side, the usual key players were present: @TheMooringsCharters @SunsailHolidays @DreamYachtWorldwide, @NavigareYachting2001 and @waypointcharter9109. ► After a particularly smooth and efficient shuttle transfer — worth mentioning, as that hasn’t always been the case in Miami — I headed to Collins Avenue to explore the power multihulls. Unfortunately, they are neither numerous nor grouped together in this section of the show, meaning a fair amount of walking is required. Still, the visit was worthwhile, with the new Aventura 38 MY, the TH33 now showcased on the @JeanneauOfficiel stand and a refreshed Leopard 53PC (videos coming soon). While the selection of powercats on Collins remains limited, major players such as Aquila, @SUNREEFYACHTSOFFICIAL, Yot, @prestigeyacht4386, @canadosyachts1805 , Moon Yachts and @WamaYachts were also on display. ► Meanwhile, the Convention Center was buzzing on opening day, particularly in the center console segment. A few catamarans, including WorldCat and Caymas showcased sleek and sporty lines. Equipment manufacturers were also well represented, although the presence of “green” technology players appears far less significant than at European boat shows. ► I’m delighted to be in Miami to announce the Multihull of the Year nominees and discover several world premieres — but please, MIBS, give multihulls a little more space! 😉 ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! In this video, Vision Yachts CEO James Turner breaks down the key differences between shaft drives and sail drives, and explains why Vision catamarans are designed with sail drives as standard. At Vision Yachts, every design decision is made with liveaboard comfort, reliability, and offshore capability in mind. Sail drives play an important role in delivering a smoother, more efficient cruising experience while optimising onboard space.

In this episode we sail to an a bit unknown Italian island despite it has played a role in history, has crystal clear water, lush green hills and can offer high altitude adventures but we begin with boat work at anchor in Portovecchio on Corsica before we make the 90 NM over night crossing to this hidden gem. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Hi everyone! Today we are going to deepdive into one of the most common premature failures of marine diesels that's almost completely preventable and what it takes to fix and prevent this!
We’re back at Boot Düsseldorf - and this time, we’re taking a closer look at the Beneteau First 30. Together with Tit Plevnik from Beneteau, we explore what makes this model so special, who it’s really built for, and whether it deserves the “speed icon” label. Is it a true performance cruiser? Is it built more for racing or pure sailing pleasure? And how does it compare to the rest of the First lineup? Watch the full walkthrough and let us know what you think in the comments. No matter if you are planning a family holiday or a more challenging voyage, having the situation under control is key to success. I thought it would be of interest to some of you to join me as I break down the engine and pull it out of the engine bay and get it into the cockpit. I might go as far as lowering it down to the parking lot but that will be determined by how smoothing the pull goes. In this episode of Sailing Mirage, I sail solo from Acklins Island to Long Island, anchoring safely in Clarence Town after a 60 nautical mile passage. Once again, the Bahamas delivered - a powerful downwind sail with winds reaching 25 knots. Mirage truly came alive, lifting and flying effortlessly over the deep blue Bahamian waters. These are the moments when everything feels perfectly aligned - boat, wind, sea, and mind. During the sail, I got a bit sentimental and shared stories about friends and fellow sailors I’ve met over the years. Long passages have a way of bringing memories back - people, conversations, shared anchorages, and brief crossings of paths that somehow leave a lasting mark. Sailing alone gives space for reflection. With the wind pushing hard from behind and miles of open water ahead, thoughts drift naturally to those who’ve been part of the journey - even if only for a short time. The day ended with a safe and peaceful anchorage in Clarence Town, a perfect place to slow down, breathe, and appreciate just how lucky this life at sea really is. If you enjoy real sailing, strong wind, and the human stories behind long voyages - welcome aboard. ⚓ Fair winds, Vlad Sailing Mirage
Are you planning a cruising trip to the Bahamas? While the islands are beautiful, medical infrastructure can be scarce. In this episode, we sit down with Tony Marinello, a retired New York State Trooper and the founder of Tropic Air Rescue, to discuss a critical safety gap for sailors and travelers in the Bahamas. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: The Danger Gap: Tony explains that once you go east of the U.S., you are essentially in a "third-world country" regarding medical care. With only three hospitals across 700 islands, getting help for a stroke, heart attack, or trauma can be life-threatening. Why Helicopters Matter: Unlike fixed-wing airplanes that require airports and ambulance transfers, Tropic Air Rescue utilizes helicopters to fly directly from the scene of the injury to trauma centers in Florida. They are the only operator with medical teams standing by 24/7, ready to launch immediately. Affordable Peace of Mind: We break down the membership model. Why the Seawind twin helm is one of the best for offshore sailing.
‘Ruby’ is a 2013 Dufour 410 Grand Large listed exclusively for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. https://www.yoti.com.au/listing/dufour-410-grand-large-ruby Ruby is a well-specified and thoughtfully upgraded Dufour 410 Grand Large, offering an excellent balance of performance, comfort, and ease of handling. Designed by Umberto Felci, the 410GL is widely regarded for its powerful yet forgiving hull form, generous cockpit, and impressive interior volume, making it a standout cruiser in this size range. The hull features pronounced chines, enhancing initial stability, water flow, and sailing performance while maintaining the comfortable motion expected of a true cruising yacht. Ruby is a one-owner yacht, originally specified for Australian conditions and carefully maintained throughout her ownership. The current owner has taken a considered approach to both equipment selection and ongoing care, resulting in a yacht that presents in excellent condition and is well set up for continued cruising. On deck, Ruby is configured for easy short-handed sailing, with twin helm stations, excellent visibility, and a clean, functional cockpit layout. A notable feature of this model is the lower boom height, allowing safer and easier access to the sails a practical advantage often appreciated by cruising couples and families. The sail inventory is a real highlight, featuring a North fully-battened mainsail and North genoa (headsail replaced April 2022), complemented by a Code Zero on a furler and a gennaker on a snuffer, providing excellent performance across a wide range of conditions. Close-quarters handling is made straightforward with a Side-Power drop-down bow thruster, serviced in December 2025. Down below, the three-cabin layout offers impressive space and comfort for family cruising or extended stays onboard. The saloon is bright and welcoming, finished in a beautifully toned interior woodwork that remains in excellent condition. Generous seating, comfortable upholstery, and a well-appointed galley, including a large top-opening fridge, make life aboard both practical and enjoyable. Power is provided by a Volvo Penta D2-55 saildrive engine, recently serviced in December 2025, including the saildrive, offering peace of mind for the next owner. She was recently hauled out in January 2026 and received a full anti-foul, propspeed, topside/cabintop and deck polish. With quality cruising upgrades, modern electronics including a B&G chartplotter with AIS, and a well-maintained overall presentation, Ruby represents an excellent opportunity to secure a capable, comfortable, and proven cruising yacht. Equally suited to coastal cruising, longer passages, or relaxed weekends on the water, Ruby has cruised the East Coast of Australia and is ready to continue her next chapter. In this episode, we go into full detail on the true extent of the lightning strike damage to No Regrets II. We walk through exactly what failed and what had to be replaced, including: CZone switching system Mastervolt power and charging equipment B&G navigation electronics Plus the many incidental systems and devices that were wiped out by the strike We also share which tools and spare parts we had onboard that proved invaluable at the time, and what additional spares we now plan to carry after living through this experience. Finally, we answer many of the common questions and comments we’ve received and talk honestly about the costs involved, revealing just how financially devastating a lightning strike can be. This is a practical, transparent look at what really happens when lightning hits a modern cruising yacht — and what it takes to bring a boat back to life. WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370!
April 2026 in Bremerhaven. Hi my dears, thank you so much for waiting for this episode. I honestly didn’t have much to share these past days — I needed time to recover properly. Sometimes it’s not enough to just slow down. Sometimes you have to press the brakes all the way… so you can come back with new strength and move forward with real focus. I heard a phrase in an interview that really stayed with me: when you start feeling anxious, stuck, and in a rush, it’s usually a sign that something needs to be rebuilt — your plan, your priorities, your direction. I hope you’re doing well and I hope you enjoy this episode, thank you so much for watching. ARPA - Automatic Radar Plotting Aid ARPA Automatic Radar Plotting Aid is a marine radar system that automatically detects, tracks, and predicts the movement of other ships and objects, providing vital data like speed, course, and Closest Point of Approach (CPA) for collision avoidance, reducing watchkeeper workload by automating target plotting. It requires a stabilised display and can be set to true or relative motion, but for collision avoidance relative motion is preferred. Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) is a maritime navigation system that automatically tracks radar targets, calculating their speed, course, and closest point of approach (CPA) to enhance collision avoidance and situational awareness. It provides real-time data to replace manual plotting, reducing navigator workload and improving safety in dense traffic. Key Features and Functions Automatic Tracking: Detects and tracks up to 50 targets, providing continuous, rapid, and accurate evaluation. Collision Avoidance Data: Calculates target course, speed, and CPA (Closest Point of Approach) or TCPA (Time to Closest Point of Approach). Vector Modes: Offers Relative Vector mode for immediate collision risk assessment and True Vector mode for calculating the actual target course and speed. Trial Maneuver: Allows operators to simulate the effect of own-ship maneuvers on collision risks. Alarms: Provides audible and visual alerts for target acquisition, loss of target, and CPA/TCPA breaches. Operational Benefits Improved Safety: Reduces human error and provides faster, more accurate data than manual plotting. Efficiency: Enables quick assessment of multiple potential hazards simultaneously. Integration: Often integrated with ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems) and AIS (Automatic Identification System) for a comprehensive picture. Limitations Data Reliability: The accuracy of ARPA depends entirely on the accuracy of the speed log and gyro inputs. Target Swap: In high-density traffic, the system may occasionally swap target tracking between two closely spaced vessels. Delayed Information: It can take up to 3 minutes for a target's vector to stabilize and become accurate after a course change.
