In this episode of The Rogue Rigger I take you through the steps to replace the chainplates and tie rods on a Catalina 42. I have done a bunch of upgrades on this boat over the years, including the standing rigging replacement. At the time of the standing rigging replacement I noticed that the tie rod on the starboard side had lots of surface corrosion and that it should be cleaned and inspected further. We are now a few years later and during its recent rigging inspection I recommended that it be cleaned up and inspected. Once I dug into it I realized that its was worse shape and that it was time for replacement. So here we go, replacement time! Enjoy!

Swedish yacht design maestro Tore Holm was at peak career when he designed, and his family's boatyard built, this beautiful, striking, seaworthy and sea kindly, fast classic yacht. Holm's mind was very much on American rules at this time. The 'Bermuda' or CCA Rule was then in force for Scandinavian offshore races, and HAVSÖRNEN ('Sea Eagle') was conceived to win the first Round Gotland Race; which she did. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/783/HAVS%C3%96RNEN Meanwhile, Holm was also working on the design of a future Swedish J-Class America's Cup challenger that would eventually not be built until 2017 - as SVEA. Well maintained throughout her life by all her owners, HAVSÖRNEN has been Mediterranean based for the past 30 years and excelled on the regatta circuit there as well as proving a very capable and elegant cruising yacht. Her seaworthy hull provides good headroom below, and the interior finish is a delight.
