We explore the region around Loretto, as well as a number of anchorages. We hang out with N57 Noeta, and then on New Years Day see N40 Epic, N50 Lasernut, N475 Dolcezza and N41 Aloha parade into our anchorage for a party! Cruising at its best.
We got to work on the western red cedar and G10 mainsail track lower reinforcements, getting the first layers of glass over them as well. We also cut out all the hatches and did the edge treatments on the soles that go down in the hulls. So come join Captain Blood, Admiral Marianne, and our XO, Brian as we build our 50' performance cruising catamaran for a circumnavigation voyage. There was a major crash on Day 1 of the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix which resulted in two sailors being injured and taken to hospital. The incident happened soon after the start of the third race, with the fleet reaching on starboard tack at up to 93 kilometres per hour, which is just over 50 knots, as they converged towards the first rounding mark. Both New Zealand and France had started near the leeward end of the line, with the sailors reporting that the wind was both shifty and very gusty. New Zealand was initially positioned to windward of the French boat, but then went into a sideways slide ahead of the French, spinning to windward with the boat nosediving and continuing to spin into the wind. The port hull of the New Zealand team rose up going into the slide. The French had very little time to react with their port hull impacting with the New Zealand starboard hull near the shroud. The French team reacted very quickly to cross the boat and check on the New Zealand team. The onboard footage from both boats is horrifying, seeing how the port hull bow of the French boat carved through the New Zealand starboard hull, and it looks like the slight movement DS Team France’s helm Quentin Delapierre made to windward could have saved this from being a tragedy. All our thoughts are with the injured sailors and we hope they make a swift and full recovery. Thumbnail photo (c) Simon Bruty for SailGP #sailgp #sailing

In this video, I showcase custom marine displays built using an ESP32, powered by SignalK data and designed specifically for flexible, modern boat instrumentation. These displays feature custom gauge designs, dynamic icons, alerting, and web-based configuration, making them ideal for upgrading older boats or building fully bespoke marine dashboards. What’s covered in this project: ✅ Using an ESP32 to drive marine displays ✅ Pulling live data from a SignalK server ✅ Designing custom digital gauges ✅ Dynamic icons that change based on conditions ✅ Alerting and warnings for critical data ✅ Web-based configuration (no reflashing required) This approach allows you to build modern, responsive marine displays using low-cost hardware and open standards — perfect for sailors who want full control over their boat electronics without proprietary systems. ⚓ Ideal for: • DIY marine electronics projects • SignalK users • ESP32 & embedded developers • Sailboat refits and custom dashboards • Open-source boat tech enthusiasts If you enjoy DIY boat tech, ESP32 projects, and open marine systems, consider subscribing — more builds and walkthroughs coming. We live aboard our steel sailboat year round in Southeast Alaska, and this is what winter actually looks like. The wind built through the night and by 4AM we realized we were dragging anchor in a February storm. Gusts were hitting 40 knots in the dark. Cold rain. Tight quarters. Real decisions. This is not tropical cruising. This is winter liveaboard life in Alaska. In this episode: • A raw look at anchoring through a winter storm • What happens when your anchor drags at 4AM • How we assess risk and make seamanship decisions in real time • Running from harbor fees and why we choose to anchor out • What a decent winter storm feels like on a steel sailboat • Reflections on self reliant living aboard in remote Alaska If you are interested in: Alaska sailing Liveaboard life year round Anchoring in high wind Off grid boat life Storm seamanship Steel sailboat cruising Remote coastal Alaska living You are in the right place. We finally made the decision to bite the bullet and buy a boat. In the end we chose the second Duo 29 we’d seen — the one with the overseas history, international registration and a long list of positives. Because we hadn’t planned on buying a boat, we arrived with nothing. And this time the boat had nothing, absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, every tool, every part, every bit of kit we own is sitting back in Australia, so we had to start from scratch. Our first big purchase for the new Little Nutshell was a new Peanut, which felt like a proper milestone. A new Nutshell, a new Peanut, a new adventure. We gathered everything we’d left with Wendy’s mum, collected parcels from both her house and the marina and added a mountain of shopping on top. After two long drives back and forth, we finally arrived at the marina for good, took possession of the new Nutshell and started moving aboard with what felt like half of Europe in bags and boxes. It’s a brilliant feeling being back on a boat again — our boat. We can’t wait to get going and start our European vacation by water instead of by road. Thanks for watching. See you next time. Kochani, po pierwszej fali emocji i stresu informujemy że od 1,5 doby mamy na Poly awarię silnika. Jesteśmy wciąż na pełnym morzu. Obecnie mamy 140 mil do portu w Panamie, do którego będziemy wpływać w sobotę w trybie awaryjnym na żaglach zamiast do San Blas.

Is this the best budget catamaran on the market, or a floating money pit? We found a Fountaine Pajot Mahi 36 Evolution listed for a suspiciously low price. On paper, it’s a capable bluewater cruiser with twin engines and a solid layout. So why is the market ignoring it? In this video, we investigate the 5 Reasons Why This Catamaran is So Cheap: The Size Trap: Why 36-foot cats are disappearing from the market. The "Ex-Charter" Stigma: Does a rental history ruin a boat's value? Layout Dealbreakers: Why the 3-cabin version kills resale potential. We anchor in a remote creek to line up one of Australia’s most extreme tidal passages — a route that completely dries out at low tide. With squalls building and massive currents ripping through, tomorrow’s window could make or break everything.... We’re up before dawn, departing beautiful Great Keppel Island after an unforgettable stay, and heading north toward Curtis Island to position ourselves for one of the most challenging tidal routes on the Queensland coast — The Narrows. This passage is all about timing. At low tide, The Narrows completely dries out, with up to 1.6 metres of water disappearing, turning parts of the channel into a literal cattle crossing. To calculate this route, cruisers 1.6m depth plus their vessel’s draft...... and a solid nerve :) Are we sailing through a channel… or over land? In this episode, we sail 20 nautical miles while getting hit by multiple squalls, pass AROUND a pink zone on the Great Barrier Reef, and anchor in a narrow creek with a huge tidal flow as we prepare to ride the high tide through The Narrows the following morning. This is the calm before the storm — and the setup for one of our most exciting passages yet. Next episode: We take on The Narrows itself. Part 1 of a six month refit in preparation of a singlehanded circumnavigation of the Arctic.
Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we prepare for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we’re learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while working toward our goal of sailing around the world. If you’re into sailing adventures, beginner sailing, sailboat ownership, cruising lifestyle, and traveling the world by sailboat, our journey is all about real-time learning, ocean freedom, and building the confidence to chase long-term world cruising under sail. In this episode of our liveaboard sailing journey, we leave our peaceful anchorage and sail back to the marina — shifting from island life to the reality of boat jobs and preparing our sailboat for long-term world cruising. This is the true rhythm of liveaboard sailboat life: sail, maintain, improve, repeat. After spending time at anchor living the off-grid sailing life, it’s time to get stuck into the smaller tasks that come with owning and living on a sailboat. While the big upgrades might be done, boat maintenance never stops, and every job we complete gets us one step closer to our goal of sailing around the world. From system checks and minor repairs to ongoing improvements, this episode shows the practical side of cruising sailboat ownership. We sail back across the bay, enjoying the simple pleasure of being under sail, before tying up at the marina where the tools come back out. This is real liveaboard cruising life — balancing adventure with responsibility and learning what it truly takes to prepare a bluewater cruising sailboat for offshore passages and long-term travel. If you’re interested in sailboat living, beginner sailing, boat ownership, or you’re a sailboat owner working through your own project list, this episode will feel very familiar. There’s always something to fix, adjust, clean, or improve when you live on a boat, and these small jobs are just as important as the major upgrades when it comes to safety, reliability, and comfort at sea. Our journey is all about turning our cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we work toward full-time liveaboard sailing and traveling the world by sailboat. These marina days may not be as glamorous as tropical anchorages, but they are a vital part of the cruising lifestyle and what makes long-term offshore sailing possible. Follow along as we show the behind-the-scenes side of boat life, the constant learning curve of liveaboard sailors, and the steady progress toward our dream of sailing around the world — one small boat job at a time. On a brisk 38-degree November morning in Newport, Rhode Island, Mike Porter takes his Axopar 29 out for a real family boat day. No demo, no script, just real ownership and family fun. Joined by his wife Alex and their 1-year-old daughter Rosie, Mike circumnavigates Jamestown Island for a relaxed breakfast cruise through Narragansett Bay. With the diesel heater running, the soft-top cracked open for ventilation, and Rosie happily crawling around the enclosed cabin, this video showcases the possibilities of what Axopar ownership actually looks like once these sales video ends. 🛥️ Want an Axopar so you can take your family for fun adventures like this? 👇 https://ecys.com/new-yachts/axopar/ ☎️ Give Mike Porter a call or email to talk more about Axopar, or breakfast sandwiches. Instagram https://www.instagram.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Twitter X https://twitter.com/barryperrins Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Canon R50 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Action scenes and small blogging is done with an Insta 360 Ace2. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also use an Insta 360 and have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have limited communications with the outside World. Galeon 620 Fly! 🔥 Jeff Hammond, co-founder of BoatTEST, doesn’t say this lightly: this one’s quite special. Beach-mode balconies, smart use of space, and that signature Galeon creativity that makes you stop and look twice. @galeonyachtsus If you’re in Miami, go see it in person. Some boats make sense on paper, this one makes sense the second you step aboard. #galeon #galeonyachts #boattest

This is about the middle of the deep freeze of 2026. The ice formation eventually froze all of Back Creek and most of the way across the Severn River. On the Eastern Shore they even broke out their ice boats. The USCG brought in icebreakers so the Baltimore Harbor pilots could get out to the tankers they needed to guide in. Thank you to Brian Harrison for this amazing drone footage. You can see more of his work here: https://vimeo.com/user167830425
Seguimos en La Palma, Santa Cruz de La Palma, Tazacorte, el bosque de los Tilos, el Lago Azul, Fuencaliente. Esperamos que os guste. Arriquitaun.
