🔨 We Can’t Agree On ANYTHING — But Watch What Happens Renovating our 1980s Florida home is no joke — and neither is renovating it together. In this episode, we tackle the main arches leading into the dining room… except we have two completely different visions for how they should look. Spoiler: only one of us wins that argument. 😅 Then just when we think we have a plan — she changes her mind on the kitchen, and now the office wall is coming back 2 feet to make room for the dream kitchen we always wanted. Chaos. Compromise. And a whole lot of progress. Want Real-Time Updates?! After nearly two years without a mast, this is the moment everything finally starts to come back together—we step the mast AND reinstall the boom, and for the first time in quite awhile… it actually looks like a sailboat again. In this episode of our sailboat refit, we complete one of the biggest milestones of the entire project. We fully rebuilt our mast from bare aluminum—removing every piece of hardware, sanding off all the paint, rewiring everything, servicing blocks, upgrading clutches, and fabricating custom components including spreader ends, light mounts, and a welded masthead plate for our electronics. But getting here wasn’t easy. Our biggest setback came from sourcing new turnbuckles for the standing rigging. After importing them and waiting weeks for delivery, we discovered they were completely wrong—threads didn’t match, pins didn’t fit, and we had no choice but to cancel our crane day. After sending detailed measurements and specifications back to the manufacturer, we waited another two months for replacements. This time, everything fit. Ten weeks after cancelling our original appointment, the crane returned and we successfully stepped the mast without incident. Then, just two days later—with the help of the yard—we were able to get the boom back on as well, bringing the rig back together faster than we expected. Now, with both the mast and boom installed, we’re rapidly working through the final tasks needed to get this boat back in the water. The momentum is real, and after a long refit journey, we’re finally closing in on launch. If you’re into sailboat refits, rigging, mast stepping, DIY boat restoration, and cruising sailboats, this episode captures both the technical work and the emotional milestone of putting the rig back together. We’re not done yet—but we’re closer than ever. ⛵ One step closer to sailing. 00:00 Feeling nervous 00:41 Channel intro 00:57 New turnbuckles 04:12 Diamonds 05:22 Step the mast 10:32 Reinstall the boom 11:26 Wrap up/Like and Subscribe 12:14 End Card #SailboatRefit #MastStepping #BoatRigging #DIYBoat #SailingLife #LiveaboardLife #BoatRestoration #CatamaranRefit

When Italian design meets American power, the result is the Wally Power X50, 50 feet of bold attitude and performance. Powered by four Mercury outboards delivering 2000 hp, it reaches up to 54 knots while maximizing deck and interior space, with easier maintenance. The wide beam and stepped hull enhance stability and efficiency. True to Wally’s DNA, its clean lines, wraparound glazing, and futuristic profile create a striking presence. Fold-down terraces in the cockpit further expand the onboard living space at anchor. @eddieswholesomehaven @wallyyachts_official . #Wally #WallyPowerX50 #YachtDesign #PerformanceYacht #LuxuryBoating

#boatmaintenance #sailing #portugal
Baking bread is probably not something one thinks about when sailing, but I have found that Sailboat Life is allot more about eating, than it is about sailing. You gotta eat. Can you make fresh baked bread on a small sailboat? I am using an ancient Einkorn flour. Einkorn is an ancient, unhybridized wheat with a nutty flavor, rich in nutrients (lutein, B vitamins) and higher in protein than modern wheat. It has weak gluten, making it easier to digest for those with sensitivities, though it is not gluten-free and unsuitable for celiacs. It requires less water in baking and is ideal for rustic bread, cakes, and cookies. In this video I talk about and then make some bread on my 32' Sailboat with my dog Buster at my side. Make Your Own Offshore Sails and Save Thousands: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sails-rigging-deckgear/sails-canvas/make-your-own-offshore-sails-and-save-thousands/ How long do sails actually last? Sailmakers often say cruising sails last around 10–15 years, but what happens when you discover a sail that’s nearly 50 years old? In this video I head to the sail loft to inspect the sails on my sailboat Lady K and uncover a surprising piece of sailing history: a genoa that turns out to be the original sail from 1980. That discovery raises an important question every sailor eventually faces when maintaining a sailboat — how long should sails really last? We break down the lifespan of Dacron sails vs laminate sails, why cruising sails can sometimes survive for decades, and the real factors that determine when a sail needs replacing. From UV damage and stitching failure to sail shape and performance loss, this video explains what sailors, cruisers, and boat owners should know before ordering expensive new sails. If you’re wondering whether your mainsail or genoa is worn out, or how to extend the life of your sails, this deep dive into sail longevity will help you understand what really happens to sailcloth over time. how long do sails last, sailboat sails lifespan, dacron vs laminate sails, when to replace sails, sailboat maintenance, cruising sailboats, sailboat genoa, sailboat mainsail, dacron sail longevity, sailing tips, sailboat gear, sail loft, sail inspection, cruising sails vs racing sails, sailboat ownership, sailing education Practical Sailor is your trusted resource for reviews of sailboats and sailing gear. https://www.practical-sailor.com Chat with us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/PracticalSailor/
This is the final episode in our haul-out series – the last push to get ARGO ready for the water again. After all the sanding, antifouling and maintenance work in Episode 2, we tackle some of the bigger structural jobs that have been waiting their turn. First up – fixing soft spots in the deck. It’s a long, awkward job in extremely tight spaces, but absolutely worth it. The result is a stronger, more solid deck and the peace of mind that ARGO is in great shape. We also complete the diesel tank repairs, including installing new fuel hoses so everything is running clean and reliable. With the engines sorted and the tanks repaired, ARGO is now in great shape mechanically as well. But… it wouldn’t be a haul out without a surprise. An unexpected job pops up (as they always do), extending our time on the hard by another week. Boats, hey! While we’re there, Jason makes the most of it and services the clutches, so everything is in top shape and ready for the season ahead. Along the way we tick off a number of other smaller jobs that always seem to appear when the boat is out of the water. After weeks of work, ARGO is now clean, strong and ready to sail again – and we can’t wait to get back out there and kick off sailing Season 3. Thanks for watching. The transformation is unreal… and honestly, the teak on our sailboat turned out SO GOOD. And the best part? We saved HUNDREDS of dollars doing it ourselves. In this episode, we are cleaning the teak on our sailboat which also happens to be our full time home, a sailboat named 'Emma James'. We are tackling everything from the aft bench seat, dolphin seats, and rear deck seat, to the shower floor and trims. Over time, teak can go grey, patchy, and tired… but instead of paying a tradie hundreds of dollars, we decided to try the JustTeak system and do it ourselves. And the results? You’ll have to see the before and after to believe it. Interested in the product we used? Even though the distances between the islands are relatively short, you’re still out in the open Atlantic — hundreds of miles away from the mainland. And that changes everything. In this episode, we leave Sal behind and sail overnight to São Nicolau. What looked like a short passage on the map turned into another rough ride — with gusty winds, confused seas, and a broken autopilot. But as always… the reward comes after the challenge. We arrive in Carriçal, a remote fishing village surrounded by rugged volcanic landscapes and unexpected green valleys. A place that instantly slows you down and reminds you why we choose this life. In this episode: – Sailing from Sal to São Nicolau – Offshore passage between Cape Verde islands – Exploring Carriçal village – Hiking through green volcanic valleys – Local food, culture & slow island life And yes… this island felt very different. 👇 Have you ever sailed between remote islands like this? Let us know your experience in the comments! **** Join me on an inspiring journey that began with buying and refitting my Reinke Super 10 sailboat called KARL. Facing the challenges of solo sailing as a female sailor, I navigated the highs and lows of single-handed sailing while tackling DIY boat repair projects, from engine fixes to full boat refits on a budget. My life aboard was a mix of adventure and reflection, shaping an independent woman’s story of resilience, personal growth, and embracing the sailing lifestyle. Along the way, I became an ocean conservation activist with In Mocean, stumbled across my dog Boga, and discovered the joys and challenges of sailing with a dog. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. Together, we face the unique dynamics and challenges of sailing as a couple, balancing off-grid life, sustainable sailing, and the demands of long-term cruising. It’s been 10 years since we cut down the first tree and started building Arabella. Since then, this journey has taken us from the forest to the water—and now all the way to a frozen winter in Newfoundland. Along the way, there have been incredible highs, tough lows, and more adventure than we ever could have imagined. In this episode, we take a moment to reflect on that journey, share what’s changed, what hasn’t, and where we’re headed next. As we look ahead to a new season of sailing and exploration, we’re also making a few changes to how we create and share these videos. We’ll be shifting to a bi-weekly format for long-form episodes while adding more short-form content in between—so there’s still something new every week, just in a slightly different way. We’re also celebrating this milestone with a limited-run tee-shirt campaign, with proceeds going directly toward keeping Arabella moving—boat work, gear upgrades, and preparing for the next chapter along Newfoundland’s south coast. Thank you for being part of this journey. We truly couldn’t do it without you. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 335 Here's something most people don't realize about sailing: we spend about 80 to 90 percent of our time at anchor, not actually sailing. And honestly? Those are some of the best days. This is what a week at anchor in Fiji looks like for us: wing foiling, diving with black tip reef sharks, scuba diving incredible reefs, boat maintenance, and floating in the water with sundowners watching the sunset. This episode is all about finding that balance between staying active, exploring underwater, getting work done on the boat, and taking time to just be. This is the rhythm of cruising life. This is why we're out here. We spend time wing foiling in the anchorage, something I'm finally feeling confident doing again after my achilles recovery. We encounter black tip reef sharks cruising around the boat—elegant, sleek, beautiful animals that we never get tired of watching. They're curious, just like us. Not aggressive, but still wild. Still sharks. You respect them, watch them, appreciate them. The underwater footage from our scuba dive is some of the best we've captured in Fiji. Clear visibility, vibrant coral, abundant marine life. We get playful down there, explore, and just enjoy the freedom of being able to drop everything mid-day and spend an hour weightless on the reef. There's also boat work, because there's always boat work. I tackle a small project using Warren's tools, he does some engine maintenance, and we wrap up the day floating off the back of the boat with drinks in hand. This is the real cruising life that most people don't see. Not the passages or the big sailing days, but the weeks at anchor where we find our rhythm and remember exactly why we're doing this. We’ve taken on something BIG…. A Big pile of poo!!! After years of restoring and living aboard our sailing yacht *Ocean Melody*, life has brought us back to Wales — and instead of slowing down… we’ve done the opposite. This is our new off-grid cottage project. It’s remote, it’s rough, it’s completely off-grid… and honestly, it might be the biggest challenge we’ve ever taken on. In this video, we give you the full tour — what we’ve taken on, what state it’s in, and what our plans are moving forward. This will become our land-based base of operations alongside our floating off-grid life… but how it all fits together? We’re figuring that out as we go. Are we mad… or does this actually make sense? --- ⛵ We’re not giving up sailing 🏡 We haven’t sold the boat 🔧 We’ve just added another HUGE project to the mix --- If you enjoy boat life, off-grid living, renovation projects, or just watching people take on slightly ridiculous challenges… you’re in the right place. --- 🙏 MASSIVE thank you to our Patrons You guys are the reason we can take on projects like this and share them properly. If you’d like to support the channel and get more up-to-date behind-the-scenes content (including progress since this video was filmed), you can join here: 👉 [https://www.patreon.com/sailing-melody](https://www.patreon.com/sailing-melody) --- 📺 What’s coming next? We’re not quite back to weekly uploads just yet — things are a bit complicated behind the scenes — but there’s a LOT more to come on this project… and back on the water. --- 💬 Let us know in the comments: Are we completely mad… or is this actually a great idea? --- #OffGridLiving #RenovationProject #SailingLife #BoatLife #OffGridCottage #Homestead #SelfSufficient #DIYRenovation #AbandonedHouse #LifeLessOrdinary

In this video we tackle two things at once — and both are genuinely useful on their own. First, we walk through how we connected our Cummins Onan generator to the Victron Cerbo GX using a pair of timer relays, giving us remote start/stop, timed runs, automatic start on low battery SOC, and run hour logging for maintenance reminders. Then we go one step further: working with Claude AI, we built a closed-loop generator load optimizer — GenOpt — that runs natively on the Cerbo and automatically manages the AC input current limit in real time. No more babysitting. No more surging. And significantly more charge current than we ever safely achieved manually. Not sponsored — just a project we're genuinely proud of. In this episode I lay out my entire sail inventory and compare the P-16 and P-18 headsails and mainsails to see if there is any compatibility between them. The mast and boom length between the P-16 and the P-18 are identical, so I was thinking the sails may be interchangeable. Paikea refit, sailboat restoration, America's Cup boat salvage, carbon fiber repair, sailboat interior renovation, DIY boat building, Volvo Ocean Race, boat refit series, Valencia boat yard After a huge push, we’re finally at a point where the massive refit of our boat, Paikea, is showing serious progress. We’re tired, but we’re committed, and in this video, we’re giving you a full walkthrough of where we’re at. In this episode: America’s Cup Salvage: We grabbed carbon nomex panels and massive carbon sail battens from an AC catamaran Alinghi 5 that was being demolished. Will it look cool or just warped?! Structural Stiffening: See how we used a carbon batten to fix a flexy spot on the cabin roof and prevent hard points. Interior Demolition & Reconstruction: We’ve ripped out the old liner and are rebuilding the galley, companionway steps, and a MASSIVE new pantry. Upcycled Lockers: Harry is building out his cabin with lockers from the Volvo Ocean Race boat, Trifork/Ericcson 4. Aft Cabin & Shower: The shower/toilet area is finally taking shape! We’re fitting a carbon sink we’ve been saving for years and building a custom floor. Smart Plumbing: We’re installing a gravity-fed black water system to minimize pumps and complexity. Plus new hatches, stanchions etc. We’re getting there! From the "oh sh#t" phase to the "okay, we’re getting there" phase, I definitely think there is a bit of crazy here on Paikea. 😂). Bon visionnage ! 🎥☀️⛵️ Contact: levoiliertagada@gmail.com #Voilier #VieABord #SailboatLife #DIY #Thermostat #ChauffageVoilier #BricolageMarine #NuitABord #Jeanneau #Eolia25 #noirmoutier
Oh no, it won’t switch. The weather is getting warmer and it is time to adjust the Dometic reverse cycle unit from heat to air conditioning, except it was stuck in heat mode. The unit is under all the bedding and cushions in the front cabin, not so easy to access. Once the defective unit was available, Steve checked the solenoid valve which allows the reversing valve to move. It appeared to be working. Next he tried to manually switch the reversing valve from heat to cool. It was a no go, so the heavy unit had to be pulled. Once on deck, we carefully slid the unit across a board to the dock and into a wagon. Loaded it in the car and drove it to a factory authorized Dometic dealer. Now, we wait...will the repair cost be worth saving the unit or will we have to buy a new one? Hopefully the decision will be made and we will have a unit installed before the weather gets warmer and we get hot and sweaty. Karen did some detail painting in the front sail locker using Interlux BilgeKote paint and Steve installed two poles for hanging our extra lines. That locker is now in ship shape condition and nicely organized. It’s great to have that DIY project completed. The area where the Dometic had lived looked a little dingy. While the bilge paint’s out it became the next project. Steve cleaned and sanded the bottom of the area. Karen came behind and painted. That space looks so much better now and it will look fantastic once there is a reverse cycle unit housed in there again. Isabella’s fenders are a variety of types. We decided to match them by removing a round fender and buying a cylindrical one that matched most of the others. Now the remaining fenders needed some sprucing up. On a warm and windy day, Karen used a magic sponge to clean the existing fenders so their white color would sparkle like new. At last, matching fenders to protect Isabella’s hull. We hope you enjoy the glimpses into our boat life we share through Sailing Intermission’s videos. Our subscribers and viewers really keep us going and we love hearing from them. #AD This video is in collaboration with International Yacht Paint by AkzoNobel. What we thought would be a quick haul-out for maintenance quickly turned into something much bigger. From sanding the hull and dropping the rudder to installing a new cutless bearing and repainting the bottom, this boatyard visit turned into a full project. In this episode we tackle one of the most important jobs on any sailboat — antifouling the hull. Before we head off to remote Indonesia, we wanted to make sure Stella is fully prepared for warm tropical waters where marine growth builds quickly. To protect the hull we’re applying Micron 99 antifoul paint from International Yacht Paint, along with Primocon primer, as part of their full yacht coatings system designed to provide long-lasting protection below the waterline. Join us as we prep the hull, apply the primer, and roll on the antifoul to get Stella ready to splash and begin our next sailing adventure. We’re only a few days away from putting Stella back in the water, so stay tuned for the splash and our upcoming expedition sailing through Indonesia. --- International Yacht Paint (Asia Pacific): https://www.yachtpaint.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/intlyachtpaintap/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/InternationalYachtPaintAsiaPacific 💙 A huge thank you to everyone supporting us on Patreon — you truly help make this sailboat life possible. There’s a moment in every build where the project stops being a collection of parts and becomes a boat. This is that moment. In this video, I carefully release my strip-planked Little Auk 11 from the mold, revealing the true shape that’s been hiding in plain sight all along. After hours of shaping, fairing, and fitting each cedar strip, the hull finally stands on its own light, strong, and full of character. You’ll see the techniques I use to safely separate the hull from the forms without damaging the delicate structure, along with a close look at the craftsmanship that goes into a small wooden kayak like this. It’s a satisfying and slightly nerve wracking step, but one that never gets old. If you love wooden boats, traditional craftsmanship, or just the quiet beauty of building something by hand, this is a moment you won’t want to miss. “If you’re going to make it, make it beautiful.” Bob Emser As an advocate for backyard boat builders I offer a free 30 minute chat about your project. Inside Sail America’s Plan to Grow the Sport and the Industry: https://www.practical-sailor.com/subscriber-only/inside-sail-americas-plan-to-grow-the-sport-and-the-industry/ Lightning striking a sailboat sounds like something out of a disaster movie—but what actually happen when it does? In this episode, we break down what really happens when lightning hits a sailboat, how the electrical energy travels through the mast and rigging, and why some boats survive with minor damage while others suffer catastrophic failures. We’ll look at the physics behind lightning strikes, how the current tries to reach the water, and why poor grounding systems can lead to blown hulls, destroyed electronics, or even boats sinking at the dock. Using real-world examples from marine surveys, insurance reports, and sailing publications, we explain how lightning travels through a sailboat’s structure, what components usually fail first, and why modern boats packed with electronics are especially vulnerable. We’ll also cover the most effective ways sailors can reduce lightning damage, including proper mast grounding, bonding systems, keel grounding paths, and practical storm precautions that experienced cruisers use. If you’ve ever wondered whether your mast really acts like a lightning rod—or what happens if lightning actually hits your boat—this video explains the science and the real-world consequences. Topics covered: • What happens when lightning hits a sailboat • How lightning travels through a mast and rigging • Why boat electronics are often destroyed by lightning strikes • Real lightning strike damage to sailboats • Mast grounding and lightning protection systems • How to reduce lightning damage on your boat Whether you’re a coastal sailor, cruiser, or liveaboard, understanding lightning risk and protection can help you better prepare your boat for offshore storms. #Sailing #SailboatMaintenance #BoatElectrical #LightningStrike #PracticalSailor #BoatOwnership #CruisingSailboat Practical Sailor is your trusted resource for reviews of sailboats and sailing gear. https://www.practical-sailor.com Chat with us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/PracticalSailor/

Now the real haul-out work begins. After the sail drive drama in Episode 61, it’s time to get stuck into the big maintenance jobs underneath ARGO. First up we give the hulls a proper clean to remove staining before Jason tackles sanding the hulls himself – all in preparation for applying fresh antifoul. Then comes a first for us: applying Prop Speed to the sail drives and props. With a professional job happening on the boat next door, Jason suddenly has a benchmark… and he reckons his result might actually be better. We also start tackling a few other jobs while ARGO is on the hard: • Applying the first coat of antifoul • Installing water tank senders so we finally know exactly how much water we have onboard • Starting repairs on the diesel tanks (which has turned into a much bigger job than expected - of course it did) • Getting the tramps repaired It’s a busy haul-out and the learning curve has been steep – but incredibly satisfying. In the next episode, we'll finish the diesel tank repairs, fix soft spots in the deck, and get ARGO ready to head back into the water. Stay tuned for that one! Thanks for watching. We’re back in Gladstone Marina… and this week it’s just Cait and Charlie holding down the boat while Sam is offshore working aboard the AMSA Emergency Tow Vessel. This is what life really looks like between adventures. We’re ticking off the never-ending boat jobs — sewing new seat cushions, helping friends with fuel runs, running errands, and settling into the rhythm of marina life as a duo. Sam was meant to swing off this week… but as anyone in the maritime world knows — plans are written in the sand at low tide. Instead, he’s been asked to stay on longer. So rather than a reunion, we’re doing the next best thing — dropping a bag of essentials (toothbrush, charger… and most importantly, COFFEE!) at the office so he can grab it on crew change day. This is the side of sailing you don’t always see — the waiting, the juggling, the real life in between. Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we prepare for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we’re learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while working toward our goal of sailing around the world. If you’re into sailing adventures, beginner sailing, sailboat ownership, cruising lifestyle, and traveling the world by sailboat, our journey is all about real-time learning, ocean freedom, and building the confidence to chase long-term world cruising under sail. Join us for an unforgettable Australia Day long weekend sailing adventure as we set sail for the spectacular Moreton Island Sandhills on our liveaboard sailboat! In this episode of our liveaboard sailing life, we leave the marina behind and head out into Moreton Bay for a relaxing cruising trip, anchoring off the famous sand dunes of Moreton Island. If you love sailing adventures, cruising life, sailboats, off-grid living, and travel by boat, this episode is packed with the kind of experiences that make the liveaboard sailing lifestyle so special. After a beautiful sail across the bay, we drop anchor near the incredible Moreton Island Sandhills, one of the most unique natural landmarks in Queensland. With golden sand dunes rising dramatically behind the beach and crystal clear water surrounding our boat, it’s the perfect spot for a weekend cruising getaway by sailboat. Living aboard full-time means moments like this are why we chose the liveaboard sailing lifestyle as we prepare for our dream of sailing around the world. This trip is extra special because we’re sharing the Australia Day experience with our American friends! What better way to introduce them to this iconic Australian holiday than with a classic Australia Day BBQ on the beach and a game of cricket? From explaining the traditions of the day to enjoying great food, sunshine, and laughter by the water, it’s the perfect mix of sailing adventure, travel, and cultural fun. As liveaboard sailors preparing for long-distance cruising, weekends like this are also about practicing anchoring, exploring new anchorages, and enjoying the freedom that comes with off-grid sailing life. Whether you’re a beginner sailor, a boat owner, or someone dreaming about quitting land life to sail the world, we share the real experiences of living aboard a sailboat and exploring incredible destinations by sea. If you’re passionate about sailing, cruising sailboats, liveaboard life, offshore sailing preparation, and travel adventures, this episode will give you a taste of what it’s like to explore Australia’s coastline by boat. The Moreton Island Sandhills by sailboat are truly a must-visit destination for anyone cruising Moreton Bay. We purchased a bigger RHIB with a centre console when we got back to Georgian Bay. Light enough to hoist on our davit, our CL340 was perfect while sailing. But for bigger/longer dinghy adventures on G-bay, we wanted a proper RHIB with a console and a big water hull. Luckily CO2 had a used Sport 390 that we added a Yamaha F60 to. BUT… it didn’t come with an arch. So we ordered one but it took a bit to get. Today, to save some $$$, I decided to install it myself. With some tips from Les at CO2, it was easy!
Hi everyone! Just a little update after my second thyroid cancer surgery. We wanted to check in, let you know we are doing okay, and most importantly say thank you. Your messages, support, and kindness have meant more than we can put into words. Recovery is a process, but we're taking it one day at a time and staying positive. We’ll share more when we can, but for now we just wanted you to know how grateful we are to have you here. Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! Boat finally at the new yard, customs still dragging, and somehow we end up testing a gloriously dodgy kite-cam setup in 35-knot gusts. 😅⛵🪁 In this episode of Sailing into Freedom, I head out to the new factory on the edge of Saigon to check on hull 2 and the long-delayed imported gear that’s still trapped in paperwork limbo. It’s a huge moment seeing the boat in her new home at last – a peaceful, green shipyard surrounded by waterways and rice fields – and knowing the real work can finally restart. Then things go full Sailing into Freedom: I rig up a homemade kite camera mount, use a bit of beach foam and some quick maths to fix the camera angle, and immediately discover what happens when impatience, gusty wind and bad ideas meet offshore. There’s also a brutally honest take on GoPro vs DJI Osmo Action, based on actual use in kitesurfing and underwater filming – no fluff, just what failed and what worked. If you’re into catamaran builds, sailing vlogs, DIY boatyard problem-solving, kiteboarding camera setups, and real-world gear reviews from someone who actually abuses the equipment, this one’s for you. #sailing #sailingintofreedom #catamaran #boatbuilding #kitesurfing #actioncamera #gopro #djiosmo #sailingvlog #liveaboard Get your Sailing Into Freedom Crew T-shirt: https://teespring.com/stores/sailing-into-freedom Want more? After a tough start to the season that left Ben injured and out of commission for a couple of weeks, we’re finally back—and back to adventure. This episode picks up with a return to the cabin, where local friends Rod and Alvin take us deeper into life in this rugged part of the world. From checking rabbit traps and ice fishing to hearing firsthand stories of growing up on remote islands, it’s a glimpse into a way of life shaped by isolation, resilience, and community. Then it’s back into the mountains. Steve and Carter set out to find a hidden ice climb they’d previously spotted from the highway—but with no trail and limited time, it turns into a full-on route-finding mission from above, rappelling into the unknown and hoping they’ve landed in the right place. Between setbacks, exploration, and a few hard-earned lessons, this week is about getting back on your feet—and back out there. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated.
