Boat life is never just one thing. Over the last couple of weeks aboard Motherload, we’ve been balancing the never-ending maintenance with everything that makes this lifestyle so rewarding. From scrubbing the hull and getting a stubborn carburetor back to life to celebrating another birthday aboard, every day brings something different. Of course, it wasn’t all work. We squeezed in plenty of surfing, spent time with amazing friends, hit the local skate park, and enjoyed everything that makes life in Bocas del Toro so special. Living aboard with five kids means every week is unpredictable, but that’s exactly why we love sharing this journey with you. Thanks for following along as we prepare for the next chapter of our adventure. We can’t wait to show you what’s coming next! ⚓ Subscribe to follow our family’s full-time sailing journey.🌊 New adventures every week.❤️ Thanks for being part of the Motherload family!

We have our windlass moving the chain, also progress on antifouling, the skeg shoe and the main mast. We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). A long overdue repair, the mahogany from the original Victoria has just not held up to the rough and tumble life in Steve's tender. So just before setting sail for the south coast, Steve got this project done enough to get Victoria functional and ready to make the passage. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Thinking about buying a 30-foot sailboat, liveaboard cruiser, weekend sailboat, or easy singlehanded cruising boat? The Nonsuch 30 is one of the strangest and smartest used sailboats on the market. With no standing rigging, no shrouds, no forestay, no headsail, one huge sail, a freestanding mast, and a wishbone boom, this Canadian-built cruising sailboat takes a completely different approach from a Catalina 30, C&C 30, Pearson 30, Hunter 30, or most traditional sloop-rigged sailboats. But for boat buyers looking for a simple sailboat, roomy interior, easy handling, and a capable coastal cruiser, the Nonsuch 30 might make more sense than it looks. In this Lady K Sailing review, we look at the Nonsuch 30 sailboat, its history, specs, draft, sailing characteristics, pros and cons, buyer concerns, maintenance issues, and why sailors still love this weird cat-rigged cruiser decades later. If you’re shopping for a used sailboat, affordable cruising sailboat, Great Lakes sailboat, liveaboard sailboat, singlehanded sailboat, or a comfortable 30-foot cruiser with big interior space and simple sailing manners, this is one boat you need to understand before you buy. Cabot 36 Used Boat Review: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sailboat-reviews/sailboats-36-40ft/cabot-36-used-boat-review/ The Hans Christian 33 is one of the most beloved older bluewater cruising sailboats ever built, and in this Practical Sailor review we take a close look at why this heavy-displacement, full-keel cutter still has such a strong following. Designed by Harwood Ives and built in the traditional offshore cruising style, the Hans Christian 33 packs a surprising amount of bluewater capability, liveaboard comfort, storage, teak joinery, and serious cruising character into a compact 33-foot hull. If you’re shopping for an older offshore sailboat, a small liveaboard bluewater cruiser, or a traditional cruising boat with a full keel, cutter rig, bowsprit, and protected cockpit, this boat deserves a close look. We cover the Hans Christian 33’s design, construction, sailing performance, interior layout, maintenance concerns, teak decks, market prices, and what kind of sailor this classic bluewater cruiser really makes sense for. Episode 274 In this episode, we hit the jackpot. Huge thanks to the legends at Muir Engineering right here in Australia for coming on board as a sponsor and supplying us with a massive new Muir Storm 1250 electric anchor windlass! The old gear wasn't cutting it anymore, so we’re making the most of our time out of the water to tear out the old system, wire up the new powerhouse, and get it fully fitted to the deck. Once the install is done, we put this beast to the test to show you exactly what a premium 1200W windlass can do. Ground tackle is life when you're cruising full-time, and this upgrade is an absolute game-changer for the journeys ahead. Huge shoutout to Muir Engineering Australia for supporting the channel and helping us keep the adventure moving safely! In this episode, we pick up where we left off before the devastating lightning strike at Panjang Island interrupted our regular series. Before the chaos unfolds, we wanted to share some incredible drone footage of the enormous white sand spit and this beautiful anchorage—a place that, just hours later, would change everything. We then skip ahead, past the journey of getting No Regrets II safely back to Phuket, where the real work begins. With an enormous repair list ahead of us, we get stuck into transforming the boat. We enclose the rear seating area, just as we had on our old Seawind 1260, create valuable extra galley storage by opening up the saloon seat and fibreglassing in a brand-new cupboard, replace the hybrid induction/gas cooktop with a full induction cooktop, get both engines running perfectly again, complete most of the electrical repairs after the lightning strike, and renew the antifoul while raising the bow's waterline by 60mm. Incredibly, after just three weeks of repairs, upgrades and maintenance, No Regrets II is ready to return to the water. Although there's still plenty left to finish, we're determined to salvage what remains of the Christmas holidays with our family, who have flown over to spend Christmas with us. Timestamps if you like to Jump Right In: 00:00 Intro 00:30 Panjang Island 02:52 Enclosing the rear seat 05:49 New galley cupboard 08:11 Induction cooktop 09:42 Engine repaired 10:44 Electrical systems 12:01 Antifoul 12:17 Back in the water WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. This week, we begin fitting the Vetus hatch frames that will eventually become the windows and emergency exits for our 44-foot performance cruising catamaran. Although the hatches themselves won't be permanently installed until we're much closer to launch, now is the time to make sure every frame fits perfectly. Taking the time to get the alignment right today will help ensure a clean look, proper gasket compression, and a watertight seal for years to come. We also complete another major milestone on our hybrid propulsion system by running one of the main cable bundles across the boat, connecting the electrical panel to the equipment on the opposite hull. It's one more behind-the-scenes project that brings us another step closer to powering up the boat. To wrap up the week, we take a short break from the build to join our friends Ryan and Sophie aboard their beautiful home-built wooden Rhode Runner for an afternoon cruise around Annapolis. After months of building, it was a welcome reminder of why we're putting so much care into every detail of our own boat. ⛵ Follow along as we continue building our dream catamaran from the ground up! --- ⚓ Vetus Marine https://vetus.com/usa/ 🌎 Odyssey Sailing Festival – Sail Greece with Us! https://www.theoceancruisers.com/odyssey ⚓ Follow Our Build Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mjsailing Website: https://www.mjsailing.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mattandjessicasailing Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mjsailing 🎵 Music licensed through Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com #BoatBuilding #Catamaran #Sailing #DIYBoat #Vetus #HybridBoat #MJsailing

Is the Ockelbo B25 CAB the perfect 25-foot all-weather cruiser, or is it simply a very fast welded-aluminum boat? In this complete Ockelbo B25 CAB walkthrough from the 2026 Seattle Boat Show, Michael Atkinson, co-founder of Vasa Marine, takes us aboard the first Ockelbo B25 CAB officially introduced to the United States. Michael’s search for the ideal Pacific Northwest boat took him all the way to Sweden. He wanted an Ockelbo badly enough that the journey ultimately led him to help establish Vasa Marine and become the U.S. distributor for Ockelbo and Anytec boats. The result is one of the most unusual 25-foot cabin boats we have toured on YachtLens. Built in Sweden for year-round boating, the Ockelbo B25 CAB combines a fully welded aluminum hull, enclosed pilothouse, convertible sleeping berth, extensive storage, self-bailing cockpits, suspension helm seats, diesel heat, shore power, reverse-raked windows, and a 400-horsepower Mercury Verado V10. A factory performance test of the Mercury V10 400 configuration recorded a top speed of 51.2 knots, with acceleration from 0 to 25 knots in 6.2 seconds. That makes this a remarkably fast aluminum cabin boat, but outright speed is only part of the story. Michael walks us through the practical details that make the B25 CAB especially interesting for Pacific Northwest boating, Puget Sound cruising, island commuting, fishing, family adventures, foul-weather operation, and occasional overnight use. IN THIS OCKELBO B25 CAB TOUR: • Fully welded aluminum hull and superstructure • Mercury Verado V10 400-horsepower outboard • Factory-tested 51.2-knot performance • Enclosed all-weather pilothouse • Convertible double sleeping berth • Seating for up to eight people • Adjustable shock-mitigating suspension seats • Automatic Zipwake trim system • Optional diesel cabin heater • Shore-power system • Twin sliding roof hatches • Optional sliding side windows • Self-bailing forward and aft cockpits • Integrated fender and equipment storage • Vented storage compartments • Large Simrad navigation displays • Fusion marine audio system • Heavy-duty doors, hinges, cleats, rails, and hardware • Low-maintenance aluminum construction OCKELBO B25 CAB SPECIFICATIONS: Length Overall: 25 ft 11 in / 7.90 m Hull Length: 23 ft 11 in / 7.28 m Beam: 8 ft 4 in / 2.55 m Weight Without Engine: Approx. 3,979 lb / 1,805 kg Fuel Capacity: Approx. 79 US gal / 300 L Passenger Capacity: 8 Maximum Power: 425 hp Seattle Boat Show Configuration: Mercury Verado V10 400 hp Transom Deadrise: 19.7 degrees Forward Hull Angle: 50.4 degrees Construction: Fully welded marine aluminum Factory-Tested Top Speed With 400 hp: 51.2 knots The Ockelbo B25 CAB was also named a finalist in the 2026 Motor Boat Awards, giving this relatively unknown Swedish builder an impressive introduction to the American market. Performance figures shown or discussed are based on factory testing of a specific boat, engine, propeller, fuel load, passenger load, and test conditions. Actual performance will vary. In this episode, with Brown’s girls safely home, it’s time for a full-on project sprint before we leave Tahiti. It’s a dizzying stretch of errands and repairs. Our new rain shades and refurbished helm enclosure are installed, we complete four doctor appointments, collect a year’s worth of medication, and receive great news from immigration. We also have our final rigging check, and Brown coats the freshly cleaned and tensioned rigging with an anti-corrosion treatment. Along the way, we attempt to track down a burning-wire smell at the windlass and investigate an error alarm on our Raymarine chartplotter. Finally, we install a long-awaited thru-hull fitting and discover a great, easy, and inexpensive solution to a malfunctioning fuel tank sender. #sailing, #boatprojects, #boatmaintenance, #catamaransailing, #leopard44, #leopard44catamaran, #tahiti, #frenchpolynesia, #southpacific, #liveaboardsailing, #liveaboardlife, #sailinglife, #cruisinglife, #offshoresailing, #sailingadventure, #marineelectronics, #raymarine, #windlassrepair, #rigginginspection, #boatrepair, #fuelproblems, #thruhullinstallation NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? For free and unbiased Medicare help, dial (747) 202-2134 to speak with my trusted partner, Chapter, or go to http://www.askchapter.org/atticus *Paid Partnership* For weeks now, the rain has barely let up, and it’s starting to make progress on our mountain home build a lot harder. In this episode, we try to keep moving anyway. First, I work on solving one of the bigger water management problems behind the house by digging drainage trenches for the gutters and trying to get roof water away from the foundation before another storm rolls in. Then, once we finally get a small break in the weather, we get back to siding and work on finishing the last big section of the exterior — including the lap siding detail that we’re hoping will give the front of the house a warm wood look without the maintenance of real cedar. It’s not the fastest week of progress, but even with the rain slowing us down, the outside of the house is getting very close to being finished. How much does it REALLY cost to live on a sailboat full-time? After tracking every expense during our first year aboard as a full-time liveaboard family, we're finally sharing the numbers. From food and fuel to marina fees, repairs, maintenance, insurance, and all the unexpected costs that come with life at sea, we're opening the books and showing exactly where the money went. We are a family of three who have been living aboard as full time liveaboard for the last four years. We left land life behind when Charlie was just 12 months old and have been sailing, travelling and exploring ever since. If you enjoy our adventures, please consider subscribing and joining us for the next chapter as we search for our next boat and continue exploring Australia's incredible coastline. Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we prepare for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we’re learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while working toward our goal of sailing around the world. If you’re into sailing adventures, beginner sailing, sailboat ownership, cruising lifestyle, and traveling the world by sailboat, our journey is all about real-time learning, ocean freedom, and building the confidence to chase long-term world cruising under sail. In this episode, we discover that getting ready to sail around the world isn't always smooth sailing! As part of our final preparations for full-time liveaboard sailing and offshore cruising, we have a professional rigging inspection completed on our sailboat—and the results reveal several issues that need immediate attention before we can safely set sail. One of the biggest concerns uncovered during the rigging inspection is birdcaging in the forestay, an instant fail that every sailboat owner and offshore sailor should know about. Birdcaging is a serious rigging defect that can compromise the integrity of standing rigging and put both vessel and crew at risk during offshore passages. If you're planning world cruising, bluewater sailing, or extended liveaboard adventures, understanding the importance of regular rigging inspections is essential. With only a few weeks remaining before departure, we get to work replacing our old headsail furler with a brand-new furler system. Watch as we remove the aging furler, install the new unit, and tackle the challenges that come with upgrading critical sailboat equipment. Proper sail handling systems are vital for safe and efficient offshore sailing, especially when preparing for long-distance cruising and ocean passages. Safety is also at the top of our priority list, so we take delivery of a life raft—an essential piece of offshore safety equipment for anyone planning bluewater sailing, ocean crossings, or sailing around the world. Every step we take brings us closer to achieving our dream of exploring the world by sailboat. To complete the project, we have the rig professionally tuned and adjusted, ensuring our mast, standing rigging, and sailboat setup are ready for the adventures ahead. Rig tuning plays a critical role in sail performance, safety, and reliability, making it one of the most important final checks before setting off on a major cruising voyage. If you're interested in sailing around the world, liveaboard sailboat life, sailboat maintenance, rigging inspections, offshore sailing preparation, cruising yacht upgrades, DIY boat projects, bluewater cruising, sailing safety, sailboat repairs, world cruising adventures, and life at sea, this episode is packed with valuable insights and real-world lessons. Subscribe and join us as we count down the final weeks before leaving the dock and beginning our journey to explore the world under sail. Subscribe and follow our journey as we prepare to leave our current life behind and explore the world by sailboat. With every repair, upgrade, and lesson learned, we're getting closer to the adventure we've been dreaming about for years. I HATE painting with a roller. It's slow, it's messy, and it kills my back. So when we had a massive drywall priming job ahead of us, I decided to test the VEVOR Stand Airless Paint Sprayer to see if it could actually make this job faster and easier. In this video, I put it through a real-world test — priming fresh drywall in our home renovation. I cover the full setup, first impressions, spray performance, ease of cleaning, and whether it's actually worth it compared to rolling by hand. Key Features: ✅1500W Motor / 3300 PSI High Pressure ✅5 Spray Nozzles (fine finish to 10" wide fan) ✅Intelligent Voice Diagnosis System ✅Includes: Cleaning Brush, Hose, Extension Rod, Nozzles, Gloves & Tools ✅8x faster than a roller ✅Ideal for large apartments, factory buildings & whole-home renovations My verdict: UPGRADE ✅ This thing knocked out in minutes what took me forever with a roller. Super user-friendly setup, intelligent voice diagnosis system that literally talks to you, 5 interchangeable nozzles for different applications, and easy cleanup. If you're doing any kind of renovation or large painting project, this is a no-brainer. 🔗 Check out the VEVOR Stand Airless Paint Sprayer here: https://www.vevor.com/paint-sprayer-c_11987/vevor-stand-airless-paint-sprayer-1500w-3300psi-high-pressure-airless-sprayer-cleaning-brush-hose-extension-rod-nozzles-electric-spray-paint-machine-for-large-apartments-factory-buildings-p_010159896736 🔗 Shop more tools on VEVOR's website: https://www.vevor.com/ #VEVOR #StandAirlessPaintSprayer #AirlessSprayer #DIYRenovation #HomeReno #UpgradeOrNot #PaintSprayer #DrywallPriming #DIYTools #HomeImprovement #WholehomeRenovation

After arriving in Panama from the San Blas Islands, it's time to haul Escapade out of the water and begin preparing for our biggest sailing adventure yet: crossing the Pacific Ocean. The plan seems straightforward. A few routine maintenance jobs, a bit of boat work, and then back in the water. With Escapade safely ashore, we remove the rudder, begin hull preparations, polish the topsides, repair our outboard motor, and tackle grinding back and barrier coating the keel. It's all part of getting the boat ready for the thousands of miles that lie ahead. At the time, everything felt like it was going to plan. Looking back now, this haul out would mark the beginning of one of the most challenging chapters we've faced aboard Escapade. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 🔧 Thanks to TotalBoat for supporting our boat maintenance and refit projects. Is it worth paying €452,664 before taxes for a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 455? In this full walkthrough, I show you this cruising sailboat inside and out, but not like a sales tour: we are also going to look at the details that are not usually shown. In this video, we go through the swim platform, the aft area, the lockers, the steering system, the autopilot, the cockpit layout, the winches, the walk-around deck, the bow, the anchoring setup, the cabins, the saloon, the galley, the heads, access to the Yanmar engine, and several construction and finish details worth checking before buying a new or pre-owned boat. The Sun Odyssey 455 is a spacious, bright sailboat designed for recreational sailing, family cruising, and life on board. It has some very interesting solutions, such as the cockpit with two side tables, the clear central passageway, the large storage lockers, the symmetrical aft cabins, a very functional U-shaped galley, and fairly comfortable engine access for maintenance. But there are also points that are worth analyzing carefully: wiring, interior finishes, unsealed marine plywood in some areas, winch layout, a bilge with water in the display boat, the Genoa trimming system, and some deck elements that may spark debate. The idea behind this video is not to say whether the boat is “good” or “bad,” but to show you what I would look at if I were considering buying a sailboat of this type. Many times, during a quick visit, we focus on the design, the space, the natural light, or the aesthetics of the interior. But on a boat, maintenance access, finish quality, wood protection, wiring layout, seacocks, lockers, the steering system, and real ease of use while sailing also matter a great deal. If you like cruising sailboats, new boats, comparisons between shipyards, recreational boating, and honest boat reviews, this video will interest you. During the walkthrough, I will also ask you questions because I want to know your opinion: do you like the cockpit layout? Do you prefer a barber hauler system or a traditional Genoa car? Are you convinced by the quality of the finishes? Would you buy a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 455 at this price? Leave your opinion in the comments, because this type of boat sparks debate among those who prioritize comfort, price, interior volume, sailing performance, finishes, or ease of maintenance. The script of the video focuses precisely on those details: price, construction, deck, interiors, engine, storage, and the real finishes of the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 455. If you enjoyed this walkthrough, subscribe to the channel and give it a like to support more boat reviews, cruising sailboats, technical tours, and recreational boating content. #Jeanneau #SunOdyssey455 #Sailboat #Boating #Boats #Sailboats #RecreationalBoating #JeanneauSunOdyssey #Walkthrough #BoatTour #SailingYacht #CruisingSailboat

Starting the next big job, installing our windlass on a new deck frame. Also how is a our aft sliding solar panel system working? We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.page/ Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). We almost couldn't finish this — a cut ethernet cable, a connector with nowhere to put the shield, and a hand locked in full muscle-cramp mode after hanging off the mast all afternoon. But the Furuno DRS4W NXT radar is finally alive on the chartplotter, and the difference vs. the old Halo 24 is immediately obvious. Max walks you through re-terminating a shielded RJ45 ethernet cable from scratch (with zero prior experience and a bunch of sacrificial connectors), routing the cable down from the mast, and the moment the radar rings appear on the Navionics overlay. Spoiler: it sees everything. Then The Blond takes over for a road trip to Marbella — hotel stay, plans to visit Ronda, and a cat named Vlad who nearly jumped ship to a neighbor's boat.
