Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of. We just completed one of the biggest transformations we’ve ever taken on… a full synthetic teak deck refit. What started as a simple idea quickly turned into a full-on project—removing deck hardware, stripping everything back, prepping the surface, and completely rebuilding the deck. For this job, we teamed up with World Panel Products, who handled the installation and brought the whole vision to life. Being able to see the process up close and learn how it’s done was an incredible experience. In this episode, we take you through the entire transformation—from pulling everything apart to installing the new synthetic teak and bringing the deck back to life. If you’ve ever thought about replacing your boat’s decking, or just want to see what goes into a full refit like this, this is the full journey from start to finish.

This has proven to be the toughest job so far on our build - our in-built fuel tanks are leaking diesel into the bilge...which has now leaked into our water tanks too. Both tanks cannot be removed and both tanks are needed for us to get out of the marina. We have so many projects on the go to get us off the dock, but we have to drop everything to find this leak...we can't afford not to... ____________________________________________________________________________ PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/TheNewKidsOnTheDock PAYPAL: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KNLJDGDXPAYAU WISHLIST: https://www.myregistry.com/wishlist/josh-and-phoebe-coomera-queensland/5046646 _____________________________________________________________________________ We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land and seas which we work, play and live on: the Kombumerri peoples. It’s a crazy rush with our projects, and time is at a premium. First up is the Anchoright Chain Marking set. This is a Defender item, and viewers can get 5% off by clicking the link below. It’s good for 30 days after the video drops. Next up, over the off season the coolant reservoir drained pink antifreeze/coolant all over our Fischer Panda 6Kva generator. I’ve never seen anything like it. We also replaced one of our three Vetus analog battery gauges. These are the new and improved version from Vetus that proved successful last year. The final one of the three was decades old and had failed, which was a bummer but wouldn’t have mattered because the bezel had frosted so badly that you couldn’t see the gauge. This was also a Defender purchase, so there’s a link below for Defender’s Vetus gauge collection. Finally, I templated two pieces of interior trim for production and finishing back in Colorado over the off season. This is a complete overview of what we do when we need trim produced by us in our home shop. 📍 Distanza e logistica: quanto conta davvero? Step aboard our favourite yacht at this year’s La Grande Motte International Multihull Show; the incredible Vaan Yachts R5, a futuristic 49ft luxury catamaran that completely redefines life on the water. In this video, we toured one of the most talked-about boats at the show: the $1.5M Vaan R5. Built from recycled aluminium and designed with sustainability at its core, this sailing catamaran is pushing to be one of the most unique yachts on the water. From the large, solid glass panels and minimalist interiors to the boutique-hotel styling and all-electric propulsion, the R5 feels more like a floating luxury penthouse than a sailing yacht. The Vaan R5 combines Dutch design, modern architecture, and long-range cruising capability into one seriously unique package. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Hey! We’re Ruth and Andrew 👋🏼 After years of dreaming, we left our family, friends and lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, behind as we set off to chase our shared dream of sailing the world. Last year, we bought our 11m catamaran, Rúna, which we now call home as we live, work, sail and adventure full time across the Mediterranean. The Solara S-250 Coupe proves that you don't need a 40-foot yacht to enjoy true "all-season" cruising. Built by the same team behind Ranger Tugs, this 25-foot overnighter is designed with a "systems-first" mentality, featuring a fully enclosed pilothouse that extends your boating season well into the shoulder months. In this comprehensive features review, we take a deep dive into: The Pilothouse Advantage: How the enclosed helm transforms the onboard experience in cold or inclement weather. Modern Power Management: A look at the lithium-ion battery integration and solar arrays that allow for silent operation without a generator. Versatile Cockpit Design: How the fold-away seating and open transom transition from a social cruising layout to a clear deck for fishing or watersports. Practical Overnighting: Exploring the cabin accommodations that make weekend trips comfortable. Whether you are looking for a rugged commuter or a capable weekend cruiser, the S-250 C brings big-boat systems to a trailerable platform. Everyone shows you the $1,500/month lifestyle. Nobody shows you what it costs to actually get there. In this video I break down every real number — purchase price, refit, haul-out, insurance, ongoing monthly costs — and what you actually need to have saved before any of this becomes real. 00:00 – Intro 00:30 – The boat purchase trap 01:04 – Haul-out, bottom paint & marina fees 02:13 – Insurance (and why most people skip it) 03:01 – Ongoing monthly costs at sea 05:11 – Adding it all up 06:30 – What this means for your plan #sailinglife #liveaboard #sailboat #boatbuying #captainseabound #sailingbudget #cruisinglife #bluewater #sailboatlife #beginner

Just a quick realtime update and introduction to our new boat!! Our videos are lagging behind real time quite badly as we simply haven't had time to make them but we are working to rectify that and just thought we'd bring you a quick update of where we are right now. No we haven't left our canal home but we were both craving adventures back at sea so have found a solution that is hopefully the best of both worlds!

This is a long video but I don't think I could of capture how it felt to sail for 32 hours in a faster paced video and I did not film anything during the 7 hours It took me to get out of the Lambert channel with a couple of those spent in a windless pocket. Really could of used a spinnaker for the couple of hours of downwind sailing I got and had great wind going up the wind for the whole night. Was alot of fun definitely one to remember for me so here's 7:40 minute of raw clips randoms comments and some selfies enjoy *to clarify the clickbaity title as seen in the video I have a 55 pounds trollin electric motor on the boat, it's strong enough but push the boat around in flat calm the battery's are old and I don't know how long they last so I try and only keep it for emergency or in this case when very close to the final destination and completely tired. sorry for the lies in the title I'm a poser. the boat is a haida 26
