First update since I got back to the boat. Today aboard Osprey I'm walking through the boat showing where things stand as we push toward departure. A lot has been happening below decks. Both bilges have finally been cleaned properly after discovering how water from the engine bay actually splits across the internal frame and spreads into both side bilges. With everything flushed and reset, we’re installing a new bilge pump and bringing the system back into proper order. The grey water tank top is now fitted, which makes life on board a lot easier, and the mast boot is secured, reducing the water coming down the mast dramatically. On deck, I’m preparing to go up the mast today. The rig has been pumping more than it should, so we’re going to put a basic tune into the rig and start stabilising things properly. We also spotted something interesting on the backstay chainplate — the shackles were installed upside down. Those will be turned over and new lashings fitted to bring that connection back into proper order. So today’s jobs include: • Mast climb and initial rig tune • Correcting the backstay shackles and lashings • Finishing the bilge pump installation • Finalising the grey water system • Continuing preparations for departure One major job still ahead is dealing with the mainsail mast track, which is absolutely essential to get sorted before Osprey can properly head back to sea. Every step is part of bringing this Grand Mistral 80 maxi yacht back into full working order for the next stage of the voyage. --- The Mariner Podcast The Mariner Podcast explores offshore sailing, leadership, long voyages, and the realities of life at sea. Old Boats, New Generations: The Real Value of Our Cruising Life: https://www.practical-sailor.com/voyaging/old-boats-new-generations-the-real-value-of-our-cruising-life/ Tartan Yachts is one of the most respected names in American sailboat building — but in recent years, the brand found itself caught in the wake of the Catalina Yachts controversy and a rapid wave of industry consolidation. In this video, we take a deep dive into the full Tartan story: from its early roots at Douglass & McLeod, to the devastating 1971 factory fire that reshaped the company, to the legendary boats that made sailors fiercely loyal to the brand. We explore why models like the Tartan 27 became classics, how Tartan earned a reputation for conservative engineering and advanced composites, and why so many sailors believe these boats are built to last. We also break down what happened when Michael Reardon acquired multiple American sailboat manufacturers, how the Catalina fallout raised concerns across the sailing world, and how Tartan ultimately emerged under new ownership — avoiding deeper turmoil that affected other brands. This is not a boat review. It’s an industry story about American boatbuilding, ownership risk, legacy brands, and why Tartan Yachts still matters today for sailors, buyers, and owners alike. Whether you’re a longtime Tartan owner, considering buying a used Tartan sailboat, or trying to understand what’s happening in the modern sailboat industry, this video gives you the context you won’t find in sales brochures or forum rumors. 📌 Topics covered: Tartan Yachts history and origins The 1971 Douglass & McLeod factory fire The Tartan 27 and other iconic Tartan sailboats Why sailors trust and defend Tartan Yachts Catalina Yachts ownership controversy explained How Tartan survived consolidation in the sailboat industry If you enjoy in-depth sailing content, sailboat history, and practical insights into buying and owning boats, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts in the comments. In this episode, we leave Moorea and battle a rough passage to Tahiti, with strong winds on the nose and a port engine that refuses to start. Our mechanic arrives the next morning, but even he can’t pinpoint the problem. While we tackle projects and make progress elsewhere, the electrical mystery remains unsolved. Now we’re faced with a big decision: do we stay and wait for an electrician—or take a rare weather window and head for the Tuamotus? #sailing #sailinglife #liveaboard #catamaranlife #bluewatercruising #offshorepassage #enginefailure #boatprojects #mechanic #boatlife #cruisinglife #sailors #southpacific #frenchpolynesia #moorea #tahiti #tuamotus #weatherwindow #sailingadventure #lifeatsea NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! Go to https://surfshark.com/atticus or use code ATTICUS at checkout to get 4 extra months of Surfshark VPN! I’ve framed walls before, but they were usually for small sheds where "close enough" was good enough. This is different. This is my actual home in Bryson City, North Carolina, and every mistake I make now is a mistake I’ll have to live with (literally). In the first half of today’s episode, my dad and I take on the challenge of framing our first interior wall solo. The goal? Don't repeat the mistakes of the past. No twisted studs, no "good enough" corners—just pure, square framing. Then, the real pros arrive. I’ve got my friends from Ellis Earthworksand Custom Homes come to help me finish the rest of the interior walls. These guys are a classic Southern Mountain crew—fast, incredibly skilled, and hilarious to be around. They’ve been teaching me the trade, and in this video, we’re sharing the framing tips and tricks that make the difference between an amateur build and a professional house. Let’s get to work! Hardtop built on a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, all done at a mooring where the cockpit is the only workshop. Fighting storms after storms trying to have some progress, and even watching a ship capzising and sinking. This is not a how-to guide for building a HARD DODGER or HARDTOP. It is a journey showing how I do it in my way. Without claiming this is the way to do it. Thank you so much for tagging along and for the patrons' support in making this video possible. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it. Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me. Even though this is season 8 on YouTube, I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 7 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. I also have more than 10 years of experience as a captain in search and rescue at sea in Norway.

#tekne #teknesatis #tekneal #teknekeyfi #teknehayati #tekneturu #teknegezisi #teknetatili #tekneturu #tekneask #yat #yatsatis #motoryat #motoryachts #yacht #yachtlife #yachtlifestyle #yachtclub #yachtworld #yachtlover #deniz #denizhavasi #denizkeyfi #deniztutkusu #denizhayati #deniztatili #denizsever #denizaski #denizdeyasam #denizgezisi #luxury #luxurylife #luxuryyacht #luxurylifestyle #luxuryliving #luxurylifestyleblogger #luxurytravel #luxurydesign #luxuryboats #luxuryexperience #boat #boats #boating #boatlife #boatlover #boatday #boatlifestyle #boatshow #boatlife⚓ #boatinglife #seaside #sealife #oceanlife #oceanview #oceanlovers #oceanvibes #sailing #sailinglife #sailinglifestyle #sailingboat #holiday #summer #summervibes #summerlife #vacation #vacationmode #travel #travelgram #travelphotography #travellife #turkiye #turkey #akdeniz #ege #egekiyilari #bodrum #marmaris #antalya #fethiye #gocek #boatsales #boatsforsale #yachtforsale #yachtsales #yachtbroker #boatyard #boatmarket #boatdealer #boatshopping #boatforsale 1.

We decided instead of sailing south to make a 1000nm detour to the north to visit the Andaman islands in India. Unfortunately the wind has other ideas and battling upwind conditions is slow going. How NOT to Retire Early & Goal Cruising Everyone talks about retiring early. But almost nobody talks about what comes after — or how hard it can be to actually make the decision to step away. In this video I talk about something I call “goal cruising” — the period where you’ve achieved financial independence, but the next destination isn’t obvious. I share what I’ve learned about goals, motivation, the realities of financial independence, and how your relationship with work changes once you no longer need a job. I also talk about something people don’t often discuss: how surprisingly difficult it was both to decide to retire and then to actually follow through and do it. And I answer one of the questions I get all the time: Do I regret leaving Apple when I did? Along the way we talk about: Why retiring early isn’t always what people expect The challenge of deciding when “enough” is actually enough The psychology behind stepping away from a career What I’ve learned about the employee/employer relationship How goals evolve once survival is no longer the priority Why drifting without direction can happen even after success This video isn’t really about retirement. It’s about purpose, freedom, and figuring out what comes next.

Collective Punishment is a literal War Crime. Therefore, we're sailing to Cuba with food, medicine and/or electrical equipment as part of the Nuestra America Flotilla. Help us directly by donating: https://wise.com/pay/me/justinej43 or https://www.paypal.me/sailorama Depending on how much money we raise, we will be purchasing cost-effective basics such as beans, rice, powdered milk, or other proteins and carbohydrates. A larger amount raised would mean being able to purchase much needed medicines such as analgesics and antihistamines. A third, larger level of funds could mean purchasing equipment for solar installations, the same self-sustaining system that we live off of every day aboard our vessel. Thank you, and looking forward to sharing the journey with you all! #nuestraamericaflotilla #nuestraamericaconvoy #cuba #sailing #travel #ocean

The traditional Invitation Race got the JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff World Championship 2026, presented by The Winning Group, under way in a 8-10 knot SE breeze on Sydney Harbour today and produced an absorbing contest which wasn’t decided until the final one hundred metres of the long South-East course. At the finish, it was the Australian champion Balmain team of Henry Larkings, Tom Grimes and Lachlan Pryor who won the day narrowly from a ‘gutsy’ Smeg team of Ash Rooklyn, Josh Porebski and Niall Morrow, which had led for almost the entire race. Defending champion Yandoo (John Winning Jr, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake) finished in third place, ahead of Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Keagan York), Vaikobi (Kirk Mitchell) and Brisbane’s GC Sails (Scott Cunningham). The battle between Balmain and Smeg was a brilliant way to start the carnival as the pair raced the entire course in the top two positions with the margin between them at just two rounding marks extending beyond 20 secs. A majority of the fleet went to the RHS of Shark Island on the beat from the start in Taylors Bay to the weather mark in Rose Bay where Balmain led narrowly from Smeg, Queensland’s Big Foot Bags & Covers (Dave Hayter), Shaw and Partners Financial Services NZ (Eli Liefting), Shaw and Partners (Aust), Yandoo, Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich), Club Marine (Emma Rankin), Vaikobi and GC Sails. In a spectacular spinnaker run across the harbour to Robertson Point the two leaders extended their break over the rest of the fleet as Smeg rounded the mark just 8s ahead of Balmain. Shaw and Partners (Aust) was 50s back in third place ahead of Yandoo and Shaw and Partners (NZ). GC Sails was next with Vaikobi, Sixt (Jacob Marks) and Fisher & Paykel (Brett Van Munster) close behind. A match race developed between the two leaders on the beat to Clark Island where Smeg led by 20s as spinnakers were set for the spinnaker run to Chowder Bay. Balmain was 55s ahead of Shaw and Partners (Aust) with Yandoo 1m35s from the lead in fourth place. The margins between the first three boats was unchanged at Chowder but it was the beat across to Rose Bay where Smeg’s crew produced some brilliant sailing to increase the leading margin to 40s. On the following spinnaker run to Taylors Bay, Balmain and Yandoo both gained significant time on the leader and the race was back on with only 8s separating Smeg and Balmain as they headed back across the harbour to Rose Bay. Balmain took advantage of a slightly slower mark rounding by Smeg and crossed to grab a narrow lead but Smeg returned the favour on the next cross and took it back. Smeg then extendd the margin and once again Smeg’s lead got back out to 32. Balmain's downwind boat speed has been outstanding all season, particularly in lighter winds, and she reduced the margin back to just 3-4 boat lengths at Robertson Point as the pair headed for home near Clark Island. Smeg went to the right and Balmain to the left; when they came together near Clark Island Balmain had regained the lead once more and crossed the finish line with the narrow winning margin and plenty of confidence for the championship regatta, which begins tomorrow. The championship is expected to be one of the most closely contested JJs for several years. If today’s racing is any indication, we are in for a tremendous series which may come down to an overall decision as close as today’s race. Today felt different again, but in a good way. I slept really well last night. Out here there are no boats around, which makes a huge difference. No AIS alarms, no worrying about traffic, no waking up every 20 minutes to check the horizon. Just proper sleep. And I woke up with a completely different mindset. Yesterday already felt like the trip had finally started when I turned west. But today it felt like something else clicked. I’m not walking around waiting for something to happen anymore. I’m just… living out here. I’m starting to build a routine. Checking the sails. Making food. Working out. Small jobs on the boat. Watching the ocean for a bit. And it suddenly feels less like I’m “on a trip” and more like this is simply my life right now. This boat is my home. The ocean is my neighborhood. And instead of waiting for the days to pass, I’m actually filling them. Making something out of them. Living them properly. It’s a strange feeling, but a good one. I’m not waiting for the crossing to happen to me. I’m living it. 🌊 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology. Working in remote Alaska sometimes means hauling 3,000 pounds of concrete on your boat to deliver supplies to small coastal communities. On a snowy day in Wrangell, Alaska we loaded 3,000 pounds of ready-mix concrete onto our boat using the public harbor crane and set off on our first real freight delivery aboard the Alaskan Gypsy. The mission: deliver supplies to the small community of Point Baker and continue toward Port Protection, where the concrete will help repair a cabin foundation after trees fell on the home. Working in remote Alaska often means doing a little bit of everything. In a single afternoon we: • Loaded freight with the Wrangell harbor crane • Hauled 3,000 pounds of concrete onto the boat • Biked across town in the snow to pick up tire chains • Navigated Southeast Alaska winter conditions • Delivered supplies to residents in Point Baker Small coastal communities rely on creativity, neighbors, and boats to keep life moving.
