After more than 1000 nautical miles across the Indian Ocean, we finally arrived in the Seychelles — waking up to towering green mountains after months of sailing through the low coral atolls of the Maldives and Chagos. But as every cruiser knows… days don’t always go to plan. Before we could properly explore the island, our generator decided to cause some trouble, forcing a quick repair and a reminder that flexibility is part of life at sea. Once things were running again we were finally able to get out and experience some island life in the Seychelles — including something a little unexpected… With the kids getting older it felt like the perfect opportunity for a new milestone: driving lessons. Meanwhile, Finn had his own adventure ahead when he joined a local sport fishing tournament, heading out before midnight to see what the Indian Ocean had in store. Emirates Team New Zealand's AC75 Taihoro rolled out at Wynyard Point in Auckland for the first time ahead of AC38, and the recon teams were on the ground to capture the detail. Training was cancelled after a tropical front moved in, but not before the boat was observed on its high-cradle. Chief Designer Dan Bernasconi confirmed the team have "taken weight out of the foils" — and the most visible sign is a significant reduction in the forward-protruding fairing previously nicknamed the 'foil spike' in Barcelona. Also spotted: Pitot tubes on the foil bulb for the first time, measuring precise speed through the water rather than over ground — critical for flight control and performance data in tidal conditions. With teams mandated to reuse foil arms from AC37, the differences between campaigns will be in the detail. The recon teams are watching closely. After making our way through the Windward Passage for the third time, our family of seven has finally returned to the familiar waters of Bocas del Toro, Panama. ⛵🌴 This place feels a little like home for us, and after weeks at sea it’s the perfect spot to regroup, reconnect with friends, and begin preparing for the next phase of our journey. While settling back into life in Central America, we welcomed a new crew member aboard and were invited to participate in the 7th Annual Bocas del Toro Regatta. With great friends, friendly competition, and beautiful Caribbean waters, we jumped in and had an amazing time on the race course. But as always with life aboard a cruising sailboat, the to-do list is never far away. The next step for us is heading toward Linton Bay for the boatyard, where the real work begins. Our goal is to prepare the boat for a major milestone ahead — a South Pacific crossing next year. 🌊 For now, we're enjoying time with the sailing community here in Bocas, getting comfortable again in Central America, and slowly shifting gears from passage-making to boat prep mode. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this life… sailing plans change constantly. But the mission remains the same. Prepare the boat. Prepare the crew. And get ready for the Pacific. Today has been a calm day. Last night I slept really well, which already makes everything feel different. Before going to bed I reefed the sails properly, enough that I felt comfortable leaving them as they were. That made a big difference mentally. I wasn’t lying there wondering if I should get up and change something, or if I had reefed enough. I could just relax and sleep. And I did. So this morning I woke up feeling refreshed and in a really good mood. The winds have been quite light today, so we’ve been sailing with full main and full Genoa out. Two sheets to the wind, heading west, and the ride has been very comfortable. The boat feels relaxed, and so do I. I used the day to go through the boat a bit. Checking equipment, seeing if anything is wearing out or needs attention. Just keeping an eye on things before they become problems. I also did a few small chores. Cleaned the fridge, packed away the trash, tidied up a bit. Nothing exciting, just normal boat life. So overall it’s been one of those quiet days. Calm weather, small jobs, steady miles west. The kind of day where you have space to think a little and just let the hours pass naturally.
