Maneuvering Under Power Course (4.97/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 3,803 Reviews): https://www.nauticed.org/sailing-courses/view/maneuvering-under-power There is a big difference between just knowing how to maneuver your boat in a marina and being an expert. To become an expert you have to have done all the various maneuvers many multiple times to built automatic muscle memory. But how do you gain that experience? Now, with exact physics simulation in virtual reality of a sailboat, you can practice dozens of times with different docking scenarios and different wind speeds and directions. Now there in no excuse to become an expert. In this video, we show our simulated marina and discuss what it takes. The Italian Line's SS Michelangelo (1965) and SS Raffaello (1965) entered service long after passengers began to abandon ocean liners for air travel. Their careers lasted less than a decade and were marked by engine room fires and rogue waves but they were a beautiful example of the final days of the ocean liner. To get a 1 year supply of Vitamin D + 5 individual travel packs FREE with your first purchase, go to https://drinkAG1.com/atticus For almost 9 months Desiree, Oso and I have been living in and exploring the small island nation of Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean. We initially came here as a place to have our baby, Isabella. Then for months it became our home base as we prepared Atticus II to be able to sustain our new family while living off-grid, and for the last couple weeks we’ve been testing those systems while exploring the most remote corners of these beautiful islands. Now we were hoping to leave Malta months ago to continue on our journey around the world. But Isabella was diagnosed with some pretty serious medical conditions and we’ve had dozens of medical appointments that have kept us from sailing away. This week is Isabella's final medical appointment in Malta so it is finally time for us to say our last goodbyes to this place that has completely changed our lives. But Isabella’s medical future is far from certain and we are left balancing the excitement of finally getting underway with the fear of what might come of her precarious medical situation. Ep 52 – Misc Projects: Ice Maker Install & Netting / Sailing Free Spirit We finally were able to get the Ice Maker installed. This is a Rartian unit that makes 7 lbs of ice at a time so a good amount for us to enjoy our cocktails! Its come in quite handy and it’s no longer considered a luxury item for us but a necessity! We use a lot of ice for drinks, the pups enjoy eating it and most importantly our cocktails! Its come in handy as other dock mates have had their unit break or stop working and we are more than happy to assist them with their need for ice! We also install the netting around the boat (ok only half of it was accomplished today). This was more of a safety concern as we have 3 dogs who love to jump off the boat and we were afraid that they would jump or fall into the water. We also did a quick fix to one of the sails that we had to undo and retie again. Overall, a great weekend for boat projects!! All financial contributions (or items purchased on Amazon) are tax deductible for your US income tax returns for full face and/or retail value. You contribution helps us to continue with project and support events to help us engage with our veterans thru events such as day sailings, working on the boat to help with projects and social gatherings. Whether you're a new boater, new to running your own boat, or navigating a different waterway than you're used to, knowing what the buoys and channel markers you'll encounter (in the United States and other countries that use the Class B navigation system) mean is not only useful but will help improve your safety on the water. Join BoatUS Magazine's Lenny Rudow to learn navigation basics -- what the various, common aids to navigation (nav aids, or ATONs) such as buoys and channel markers mean. Some buoys and channel markers may be larger or smaller than what you see in this video depending on where you boat, but the meaning of the colors and shapes remains the same. Keep in mind that the markers discussed here may be different from those used on inland waterways, and you should familiarize yourself with any local markers where you boat. It’s just two months now before the America’s Cup world descends on the beautiful port city of Vilanova i La Geltrú, the capital of the Garraf region of Catalonia, for the first Preliminary Regatta on the road to the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona. The six America’s Cup teams will be de-camping to the venue from their bases in Barcelona with their pure one design AC40s being the weapon of choice for a mixture of desperately close fleet racing before match racing (one-on-one) will decide the eventual winners. It’s the first time in this Cup cycle that we will see the teams competing against each other and will give an early indication of form. Domenica allo stadio o avventura in barca? Whilst the NYYC American Magic AC40 one-design programme is going great guns with the youth sailors getting fantastic experience from the undoubted superstars of the foiling generation in Tom Slingsby and Paul Goodison, there’s a number of teething issues dogging the AC40 LEQ12 programme. Frustrating gremlins for the team but the super-positive air around the American Magic camp was once again personified by the peerless Andrew Campbell who fronted the recon interview and gave a realistic take on the issues that have plagued ‘America’ since being in Barcelona: “Yeah it was a short day for us on the ‘America’ today, it was one of those complicated days in the Americas Cup. You know the boats are sophisticated racing machines, they've got a lot of pieces and parts and when they're not quite running at 100% everything kind of shuts down and so, yeah, we didn't get very far off the end of the pier after we hoisted and started the process of getting taken off and getting running cause we Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. Summer is certainly making its presence known down in Barcelona with the mercury officially touching 33 degrees but feeling even hotter around the downtown area with its bustling traffic and busy walkways. The LEQ12 AC40 docked in at 2.40pm and Maxime Bachelin put a professional spin on the day saying: “It was very, very, warm today and yeah not a lot of wind but the goal was still to go out with light wind and practise take-offs - and we were managing to do maybe one or two and the rest with the with the RIB… we learned a bit about take-off and how to power the sails and just to compare the two sails (between the LEQ12 and One Design versions), for sure there is difference but we will need to analyse it from pictures at the end of the day.” Section 41. This Nimbus T8 is a modern replacement for a Sea Ray 275 Sundancer from 10 - 15yrs ago. But she's also SO much more than that! This boat brings speed advantages, fuel savings, offshore capability and will also take you to more destinations by allowing you into the shallow water and landing onto beaches. Sempre t'esquivaran ells a tu. With a forecast that kept other teams ashore on Monday, NYYC American Magic ventured out of the Port Vell for some crucial light airs training, desperate to find and work on the transitions from marginal flight to foiling. It was hard, hot work for the sailors who had made significant changes in crew allocation with Tom Slingsby and Paul Goodison taking charge of the AC40 in One Design mode whilst Lucas Calabrese paired with one of the up-and-coming Youth sailors onboard the LEQ12. Up in the sky, just above the immersed foils on the LEQ12, could clearly be seen the obligatory drone catching as much data as possible from the wing wash to correlate with the underwater data being captured by a phalanx of cameras mounted on and around the foil itself and up the foil arm. The recon unit noted a few issues with the LEQ12 in terms of ventilation explained by Lucas Calabrese in the interview as being: “It was just we were sailing on two boards and we got a bit too slow and it was really light so it’s hard to get out of that spot and the other one that was at the end we had a little bit of what we think was a hydraulic issue that we're going to check and make sure we're ready for the next day of sailing.” Section 41. With the America’s Cup teams converging on Barcelona this summer, it’s getting busy out there. The teams love seeing other people out there enjoying the sea and like them when you’re out sailing safety should be one of your main priorities. The last time the America’s Cup was in Spain, the yachts were doing 10 knots. Now they do 50 knots, 100 kph and their maneuvers are fast and can be very hard to predict. From their perspective, spectators and other boats are almost stationary objects. If you see them coming, slow down or better yet, stop. Don’t try and turn or speed up to try and avoid them. They will always avoid you. If you think you will be taking your boat out to see the first America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta in Vilanova in September, please register at https://www.americascup.com/on-water-information for up-to-date on water and event information. If you are planning to bring your boat from a neighbouring country or nearby location, the Ports and Marina facilities in Catalunya are incredible. Check out all of the facilities and berthing opportunities on the Ports de La Generalitat website and make your bookings early as its sure to get busy. In the meantime all the teams look forward to seeing you out there for an epic summer of sailing in beautiful Barcelona. A late call to switch boats from the one-design AC40 ‘Magic’ to the developmental LEQ12 AC40 ‘America’ led to a near-three hour delay for NYYC American Magic on Wednesday and rather scuppered their day as squally conditions blew through and left a nasty sea-state and winds around the 5 knot mark. No ideal for flying, the LEQ12 struggled for lift-off on starboard into the swell and in a session that lasted just over two hours, only managed half an hour of flying time. Paul Goodison put a positive spin on the day and spoke about learning new things every day but summed up the day as: “I think a lot of it is just down to their waves and how your surging. Obviously as you’re dropping down some waves, even if you're not going so fast, half the boat releases just naturally depending on if you’re in the peak or the troughs so you’re able to take off quite early at some wind angles and wave angles whereas when the breeze shifts around a little bit, then all of a sudden it gets a bit harder to release the boat so you’ve got to get a lot more speed to be able to get the thing out of the water.” Paul also reviewed the last two weeks of sailing adding: “I think we've been pretty fortunate the last two weeks we've been here sailing we've had some fantastic conditions and done a lot of great sailing and today is a little bit of a dark reality that maybe this is what's in store for us - a little bit bigger waves a little lighter wind and some really tricky sailing conditions.” Section 41. We'll be talking about each of their dimensions, capabilities, and prices, so don’t miss our top-ranked beach cat at the end of the video! Small beach catamarans, or "beach cats'' for short, are lightweight, multi-hulled watercraft best used for day sailing and watersports, particularly in beaches or shallow-water areas. Relatively small compared to the average cruising catamaran, these 13 to 22 feet beach cats have the ability to fly a hull or have the vessel lift one hull out of the water as the wind catches. This, along with their shallow draft, trampoline deck, and portability, allows sailors to explore beaches and coves with ease. With an average price of around 7,000 US dollars, these catamarans are an affordable option for those seeking adventure and a sporty past-time. We've handpicked the most exciting options for you today, so, let's set sail and discover the world of small beach cats together! ⛵️If you enjoyed this topic, leave a LIKE, drop a COMMENT, and SHARE this video around! ⛵️SUBSCRIBE and click the notification bell, so you’ll be updated when new episodes become available! There's a reason they say Lake Superior never gives up her dead. The largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area, Lake Superior's cold and treacherous waters have claimed numerous lives. Here are three eerily similar stories of ships that vanished on Lake Superior: the SS Manistee, the SS Ira H. Owen, and the French minesweepers SS Inkerman, and SS Cerisoles.
