We spoke to Seldén's Mats-Uno Fredrikson at METSTRADE 2023 about the new range of manual and electric self-tailing winches. The drums feature vertical ribs placed in an asymmetric order with uneven distances between the ribs. The manual operated 2-speed self-tailing winches are available in sizes 30 to 66 and electric winches in sizes 40 to 66. The Electric winches are manual 2-speed winches fitted to a SEL-Bus driven motor pack allowing for a third high-speed velocity.

It’s extremely loud with the wind howling through the rigging, the boat violently heels back and forth, making it difficult to do anything, and the worst case scenario is always in the back of our mind. Now, if you want sunshine and calm water, pleasant day sails and a large variety of anchorages to choose form, you’re going to need to sail in the summer in the mediterranean. Sailing in the fall is a very different story. It feels a bit like playing a game of Chess, with your opponents pieces being massive low pressure systems, sudden thunderstorms, and huge swell that seems to magically wrap into every anchorage. To safely cruise at this time of year we are constantly checking the forecast for a break in the weather so we can run to our next destination. But perfect anchorages with 360 degree protection are extremely rare, so we need to choose our anchorages wisely. We need to take into consideration the huge wind shifts and massive swell, as well as what could happen if the forecasts are wrong. There are a thousand variables to consider and we’re always thinking three moves ahead. But the pay-off for all of this trouble is that we get to experience one of the most renown cruising grounds on the planet basically all to ourselves. Ep 68 – Replacing the Vent Fan and Adding the cockpit table Sailing Free Spirit Finding more projects on the boat to make her water tight and comfortable. Today we replace a broken and leaky vent fan that currently leaks into the aft head and we found the cockpit table and get that installed for the evening when we are out there eating, drinking and relaxing or maybe Andy’s airhorns to honk at all the boaters going by who don’t observe the no wake zone. You know I have to have a place to put snacks and some of the yummy goodness we all enjoy! A letterbox drop, as chaotic as it may look sometimes (especially this one... it wasn't the cleanest) is in my mind as important to learn if you're flying spinnakers as it is to learn how to lower a jib or mainsail, if not more so. While there are socks and furlers for spinnakers that work fairly well, they do malfunction from time to time (user error or equipment failure), and when they do, it's vital to know how to drop a spinnaker without one of those pieces of equipment.
