In this, the second episode of our on-farm boat build, we take a look at using a hand held router to easily shape a Center board as a foil. A router is the next tool on the list of machines I fully respect after a chainsaw. Anything they take, is gone forever! Starting a boat in the middle may seem strange, but we took on this project to see us through the Christmas and New Year period, when materials and supplies can be hard to buy. Everything required for this project was on hand and a great project for any time I got spare. This board was made from all recycled material, and we think it came up very well. It added nothing to the cost of the boat, except for some timber glue. While this board was made from solid timber, glued into a large blank, this technique will work just as well to shape a blank made up from sheets of plywood. We will revisit this board later when it's time to fibreglass everything, but in the meantime we think this video follows some interesting techniques. We have a new toy onboard SV Emma James.... and it is a sewing machine! We are redoing our interior cushions, our exterior window shade covers and the exterior cushions. Why are we re-doing the cushions? The cushions we had we in good shape, nothing wrong with the material and no holds, however they are from 2004 and when we sit down you can feel the wooden board below you and it was not comfortable - not comfortable at all. Some of what we are doing is a bit out of the ordinary... for starters instead of buying new foam we are repurposing foam we already have onboard from our 'day beds' and cutting it up to double up the thickness of the seat cushions. We are also finding that the boat is attracting heat, a lot of the items we have, like our window shades, are black in colour and are attracting the heat. So to help this we are changing the colour of our window shades by adding an extra layer of white shade mesh to the existing shade material. The goal is to go as white of a colour scheme as possible to reduce the amount of heat in and around the boat. We are the James Family, we purchased an unfinished aluminium catamaran and are fixing her up as we sail around the world. Distanze di Sicurezza Per garantire la sicurezza di tutti, è fondamentale rispettare le distanze legali stabilite. Generalmente, le imbarcazioni devono mantenere una distanza di sicurezza di almeno 100 metri dalle boe dei subacquei. Tuttavia, questa distanza può variare a seconda delle leggi locali, quindi è sempre consigliabile informarsi sulle normative specifiche della zona in cui si naviga.
